I voted for this choice too, but rest assured, I am 100% sure that nobody is spying on some shithole goblin village in the middle of nowhere. However, I award you a brofist because I am proud of your fine display of completely delusional paranoia, which is a trait that all right-thinking Codex LP voters must possess. Be alert, everyone. Shulgi is around here, somewhere.

Someone has to keep the traditio up you know. You guys have been slacking off while prattling about little things like invading party of knights and mages:rpgcodex:

Besides goblin shithholes are excactly the places to spy and attack...at laest that is what my forgotten realms novels have taught me.:M

As far as goblins go, this was an even punier and scrawnier one than usual; according to Rin, he had been lost in the forest as a child, and enslaved by humans for a few years before managing to escape and find his way back to his people. At the moment, he was the sole goblin left alive that had experience with other cultures, if only because he was stuck looking after the village while the others had bravely ventured to the ruins on that fateful day.

treave, can Runde speak or understand any languages other than his own? He's rather smart - in his captivity among humans, did he learn anything?

You are uncertain where you are at the moment, and whether you will meet anyone who speaks your language, or even if the goblin language is any sort of common language for the people in this land. This way, you should be prepared, no matter what creatures you encounter.

It seems that our Universal Translator still has a lot of issues. If Runde has knowledge of other languages, customs, or anything of these humans that are not of the Seven Kingdoms, he could be very valuable as a diplomat. I fear that if we bring Rin, whose experience with humans mostly involves hacking them to bits, and Robust, who is dumb as shit, we may end up with a fight on our hands that I'd prefer to avoid at the moment. (We only have a single goblin village under our control, we're in no shape to fight these guys if they are part of a large Kingdom and they come back with a larger force after we butcher this small war party)

Flopping to 3A II (Runde) III (Robust), since I'm pretty sure that bringing a demon along with us will result in a fight. As it is, we can pass ourselves off as a messenger of heaven who crash-landed on their world and was found by goblins. That way, we can build up our strength while telling them that it's OK, we're totes an angel.

To be fair, I don't think that angels in this setting are "holy servants of goodness", though it's clear that humans and demons don't like each other. Even then, these humans aren't part of the Seven Kingdoms, so maybe they may not have problems with demons. It's a mystary for now.

Exactly, you don't know what the angels are like, or what the mythology of the world is like, so the entire concept of being a fallen angel out for revenge on heaven seems a bit misplaced. If your motivation is revenge, you are just something that wants to get revenge on the goddesses. Being a dragon/angel/demon/baby whatever doesn't really factor into that part of the story. The major thing it changes is your racial abilities, and your interaction with the other races.

My bad, missed those parts. I don't even know how the encounter will go now. Hopefully they won't take us for a pigeon demon.

He does understand two other human languages, which is part of why you had him work with you, but you haven't had the occasion to actually ask him about the circumstances of his captivity yet, being more preoccupied with developing the spell. You'll get a quick briefing on the human settlements that the goblins know about in the next update. Or you could have it now if you prefer.

Gonna flop to BAA II/III.

As others have said, I don't think a quickly assembled scouting party is going to be a mortal danger to us. And I think Rin is going to be counterproductive for diplomacy, which should be our initial goal over slaughter. Why not at least try to add some human minions?

Re: goblin knowledge of human territory

Most of them know nothing. A few of them, like Boss, Petze and Robust, know of one human settlement, to the west of the ruins. It is a small farming village living off the land, and they have little to no contact with the goblins, preferring to stay out of each other’s way. The goblins would like to chase the humans off what they see as sacred territory, but they don’t have the numbers, and they know that any attack would bring retaliation from stronger human forces down upon them.

Runde tells you that from his time spent in human lands, he counted at least four different kingdoms bordering this region. The ruins are technically part of the territory of a kingdom called Methuss, and he has also heard of a kingdom called Galbaldy, another called Dijeh, and something called the Holy Barzam Ecclesiocracy. He has no idea what ‘ecclesiocracy’ means.

Re: goblin knowledge of non-human territory

The non-humans were gradually pushed further east after the Demon God’s defeat. For some time the humans ruled this area, but barely a hundred years after their victory they left for some reason that the goblins are not aware of. The goblins of Grahferde are currently not in contact with any of the other non-human races, they see them as quitters and losers.

It's already been established that powerful folks in this setting are capable of mopping up the floor with many of those who aren't, see the section where treave talked about how the Demon Lord would devastate the armies of the Seven Kingdoms were we to have lost against him. If he could do that and we had the faintest hope of measuring up to the Demon Lord, I think we should be able to handle together a band of guys slapped together in a couple weeks who may not be expecting us.

A - I want necromancy/ressurection magic. Angel of Death etc.
A - Best to see what happens before trying ourselves. I don't care if the silly goblin dies.

B - We didn't go necromancer so let the dead rest.
A - Experiment and hopefully save a useful scout and our apprentice's waifu.
A II, III - We don't know if this is the only enemy force in the area. We should leave Rin behind in case there are. I'd hate to take all our big guns with us, and come back to a slaughtered village.

Will all you white knights stop voting 1B. What's it going to hurt to try to revive her - whether now or in the future when we gain more knowledge?

I mean, it's like the beginging of BG2 all over again.

Jahiera:"Kahlid! WHAAAA! Ok. Let's go."
PC: "WTF? You don't want to try and revive him?"
Jahiera: "Uh...no...it's, uh, probably not possible..."
PC: "But you could at least try..."
Jahiera: "STFU! Can't you see I'm in mourning?!"

5 seconds later...

Jahiera: "BTW... Guess who's single?" *bats eyelashes at PC*

Playing an obsessive love-struck emo banging his fists at cruel fate stealing his beloved and resorting to some sort of Frankenstein experiment doesn't seem up our alley. I think we should nod our head in respect to someone who did a good deed for us and repay her with what she would have wanted and move on.

I JUST WANT TO PUT HER HEAD IN A JAR! :M

edit: I mean, uh, it's far more, uh, in line with her wishes to let her live to fight another day...from the jar.

*cough*

Well, to put it bluntly, our character realizes - even through his obsession - that revival is pretty much impossible, and the closest thing we can do is to raise her as an undead abomination. And yes, I don't like how it turns our character into a creepy emo who can't let go and keeps having secret nightly visits to the corpse that the whole village knows about but is too embarassed to mention aloud.

I also don't like it that the decay has already set it, I want my heads in the jar to be pretty.

That said, I find the idea of turning our only trusty companion and a friend into a talking skull against her wishes quite amusing, especially coming from the folk who didn't care much for the 'MWAHAHA, AM I EVUL! HERE, WATCH ME EAT A KITTEN TO PROVE JUST HOW EVUL I AM!" type (which some of us are trying to push), even though the 'MWAHAHA, ME MADZ!' type is pretty similar.

In other news, does anyone else find it hilarious that Robust, being considered the most useless of our prospective party members both for diplomatic and combat purposes, gets selected as an afterthought while we argue whether Rin or Runde would be better. That makes him get twice their votes, and become an essential member of the team as far as the results are concerned. Ah, the paradoxes of voting systems!

That's because Robust is Boshen's reincarnation. He is essential by default.

treave, are demons known on this world? If we take Rin along for the ride, will she be immediately recognized as a demon?
