I knew it was a good idea to choose an African women who is an uneducated jock but rich to cause a lot of trouble :)
Someone should spot for zombies while the rest barricades and searches the house (and finds hopefully some medicine).

Looks like searching and barricading wins, and with a team order to boot! Let's do this! Ashery and Alicia barricading, Banana, Laqo, and Lightbane searching!

Holy fuck you guys. HOLY FUCK. In a matter of hours the building is complete searched and every entrance is secured! Codexteam #2 is a well oiled machine!
Well, since that went freakishly well and quickly, I'll end this update. What's the plan now? We can continue barricading, since entrances have 3 levels of barricade (Unsecured, secured, and fortified. All entrances are secured now) or we could send teams out to check out buildings. Or a single team, since we only have one gun/actual weapon-class item at the moment.

Edit: I complete spaced on the loot we found. We've got melee weapons!

That start went a lot better than expected so far! I'm for securing more and spotting for zombies. The next day should go to the police station which is nearby and to the store after. Maybe first to the store if food supplies are running low.

We are awesome, muahaha.

I agree with Morkar. Let's put Banana on zombie watch while Alicia and Ashery keep up the good work fortifying the place. Lightbane should start making traps.

Lac should either cook or help out with one of the three existing tasks.

Banana + Light: Trap
Laclo: Cook
Alicia: Barricade
Ashery: Alternate barricade/watch

Goal should be to secure the house well enough so that a party of three or four can go out searching tomorrow without much risk to the folks left behind.

Makes sense, but I'd prefer for Alicia and Ashery to focus on barricading for the reason you mentioned. Also, I'd prefer to have Banana on lookout at all times just so there aren't periods of time where we don't have somebody watching the zombies. If the barricades get done soon enough, though, Ashery should go take over the watch while Banana goes to help Light out with traps.

If we go with your plan, Banana should alternate between trapping and watching, so that either her or Ashery is on watch at all times. If that's not possible, just put Laclo on watch as an extra pair of eyes whenever Ashery is off barricading.

Question: I notice that some people are good at item modification. What exactly does that mean? Can we modify the weapons to make them stronger/more durable?

I'm not entirely sure of the mechanics behind it as I've never purposefully modified items before, but it lets you modify an item (Perhaps at random? When I mess with that option I don't see a way to select an item) in a particular way. The choices are "Any, close combat, assault, sniping, barricading, engineering, spotting, searching, demolition, and cooking". I assume it can apply bonuses to an item that can already be used in that situation (No +cooking on pistols) to make it better at it. In one of my test games before starting the LP I had someone tinker (Which is an idle and automated version of modifying) +close combat to a pistol.
But as mentioned since the game obfuscates the actual mechanics of stuff I have no idea if the benefits for that are good or not.

Alright, did a die roll to see if Banana or Ashery's orders won, and Ashery won the toss. Banana and Lightbane on trap duty, Laclo on cooking, Alicia on barricades and Ashery alternating barricade and watch.

By 1:00PM the building is as trapped as it can be, Laclongquan hasn't made a single meal yet, and no additional barricades have gone up. Since the plan seemed to be fortify this house until tomorrow, I'll keep everyone working here. Lightbane start to help Laclongquan cook, and Banana takes over watch duty as Ashery goes full time on the barricades with Alicia.

n1QIh.jpg

Either the move from "Secured" to "Fortified" involves something different than the barricade command, or all our barricading efforts have been repairing the damage the zombies have done. We've got a considerable mob outside the building apparently and the sun's setting.
What do we do? We could try to clear the zombies outside the house with a direct assault, or we could try to create a distraction and (Hopefully) lure them away. If we go for a distraction keep in mind I'm not entirely sure how that order works. I'm not sure if you do it at the area the zombies are clustered to confuse and lure them away, or if you have to move to a different building to make the distraction and lure them over there.
If we DO do a distraction, there are also multiple ways of handling it. Making a ruckus, playing music (The stereo I guess) or making a bonfire. I believe supposedly bonfire is most effective, but again I'm not sure.

Up to you Codex! Would've gone a bit longer with this update but with a large mob outside I thought it was time to ask the Codex!

What supplies do we have?
Good call, I guess I should mention that a bit more. Supplies:

Weapons: 9 9mm rounds, a handgun, and a baseball bat

Tools: 113 pieces of scrap, a bottle of spirits, a can of gasoline, a chess set, a crowbar, a deck of playing cards, a flashlight, a frying pan, a hammer, a pair of binoculars, a saucepan, a screwdriver, a stereo and a wooden spoon

Medicine: A packet of painkillers

Food: 2 small meals and 5 snacks

Edit: Fuuuuuuuuuuck. Fuck! It just crashed while saving. Last time it did this (At the very very start of this group's LP) it corrupted the save and I had to start over. If it corrupted this save I dunno if I should press on. Game might be too unstable to LP if it's corrupting this much. Checking now.

Edit 2: Looks like not corrupt this time. The show will go on!

Edit 3: And for a quick clarification on food, a small meal is for one survivor, not the whole group. It just lasts longer than a snack, and has to be made from 3 food ingredients.

Hmm...we might do well to have a small party go out and create a bonfire somewhere else. The stereo might also work if the bonfire takes longer/needs specific gear to setup.

Regardless of what happens there, though, we should switch to slowly and quietly setting up barricades and try to quiet down for the night.

Yeah, fortifying barricades was probably what drew the zombies in the first place. Should've stopped once the basic barricades were up. :(

First of all, stop all barricading immediately - unless there is an option for quiet barricading, which I don't think there is, from the looks of the action list. If we can't barricade quietly, Alicia should switch to meal preparation together with Lightbane. Ashery should rest for now, but should take over Banana's watch spot later in the night to let her get some rest. Lac should just rest.

What we should definitely not do is send people out right into the middle of a steaming horde of zombies. Let's quiet down first and see if they'll go away.

Main Goals:

Look for food and if possible find another safe-house.
I doubt Zombie beacon safe house will last.

More clarifications! It is possible to barricade quietly and slowly. I had it on loud and fast since this was day 1 and is supposedly as zombie-light as we're gonna get. Meal preparation isn't needed at the moment as we've turned all our ingredients to meals already. And finally moving survivors off of jobs isn't in my hands, they eat when they want and rest/sleep when they want/need to.

I will try to get one last update out tonight.

Alright. Update!
From what I can mash together of your suggestions, we should try a stereo distraction on another building (Hoping that draws zombies away from our house) while quietly working on the barricades. And Grampy Bone wants to watch. Going to assume Lindblum's goals are for when the sun's up.

Actually just looked it up in the manual ( http://www.zafehouse.com/manual/ if any if you bros are so inclined to look at it) and it sounds like distractions attract zombies TO an area from elsewhere. Distraction appeal going from making noise, stereo, to bonfire (Which sounds slowest to start).

Rolled to see if Ashery won for making a distraction, or if Banana won for trying to quiet down for the night. Banana won!

Orders at the moment: Laclongquan on guard duty, and the rest of the team on barricading slowly and quietly during the night. Gonna keep things calm and hopefully quiet and maybe get through the night.

4CT2t.jpg

Db2kN.jpg

Well, I'm just gonna guess that the zombies aren't going to give up for the evening. No damage to the team thus far though!

Home security report: 4 unsecured, 4 secured, 1 fortified (What the hell?)
11 furniture units remaining
8/10 traps (Since two triggered)

What's the plan now Codex? The zombies were apparently lowered to a small mob. Banana's currently sleeping (Or trying to) and is out of the action at least for the next hour. Continue barricading? Try taking the fight to the zombies and clearing the outside of the house? Wait for Banana to wake up and make a dash for a new building/base? Continue working on barricades to make it to dawn THEN make a run for it? Up to you!

Down to 6 bullets for the pistol, by the by. And all relationships among the survivors seem to be red/orange with only a few yellow. Everyone's on edge.

All right, we survived the first wave!

I'm thinking that we should take advantage of the fact that we have the entire place trapped to hell and back, meaning we should stay put, stay quiet, and let the traps take care of the zombies when they come. Ashery and Alicia should barricade the unsecured entrances slowly and quietly. Lightbane should make traps to replace the two that were used up, and then go help Ashery and Alicia. Lac should be on watch at all times. Once that's done, hopefully Banana will be up. Put her on watch and have the others rest.

Question: Does cleaning up corpses involve going outside the house?

The game has some tension going on!

I agree with Anabanana except for the traps. I think we have enough and should avoid more noise by all costs.

A distraction fire or better using the stereo the next day would be useful if there is again a big mob in the morning. Alicia should possibly make the distraction then as an athlete. Otherwise; we need food and ammunition!

I hope Ashery stops throwing stools around... he and Lightbane should be separated from each other. If the zombies in the morning are only a small group maybe Ashery should take the watch to have him alone.

10 barricades out of a microwave and a tv? We're better than Macguyver!

From the manual:
"If you have some weapons around, click on them while on the movement screen to order your survivors to take them. Remember that many items can be used as weapons – even a frying pan is better than nothing."
"Rarely will you want to send your survivors empty-handed. Click an item on the left to take it with you; right-clicking will move 10 of the same item at once."

"Continue searching the locations. If the locations are close, set a survivor to watch for zombies – this will reveal zombies nearby, and also give you some bonuses if zombies attack a location."

" if the survivor you’d like to add has a red circle, then adding this survivor will lower the average of all relationships on the task, meaning the survivors won’t work well together."

"For example, if Frank and Jane are barricading entrances and Jane, who is very poor at barricading, doesn’t do a good job, then Frank and Jane’s relationship may suffer slightly.

"If, there is a prejudice between Frank and Jane, then the negative impact on the relationship will be greater. If both Frank and Jane are prejudiced against each other (a double prejudice), then the impact will be severe."

"In gameplay terms, motivation modifies a survivor’s capability, so that even highly capable survivors may struggle if they lack motivation or interest, while highly motivated survivors may still perform well even if their capabilities are lacking or they’re injured."

"You can subtly affect relationships by creating positive environments for your survivors. There are many ways you could go about this, but here are some hints:
Survivors who do well on a task will feel closer to each other
Survivors who aren’t getting along will have more opportunities to fight and argue if they are in the same location
Poor relationships result in poor performance and negative combat outcomes – which in turn affects your relationships. Avoid getting into these negative feedback loops
Give them some space to socialise, perhaps you can hold a feast
Survivors might be less willing to argue or fight in a particular location
Don’t be afraid to sacrifice someone for the good of the group"

" "If you have three large meals prepared you can hold a feast at the location. This will result in all survivors increasing their relationship to maximum, but creates noise at the location."

"Rescue clues can be discovered by searching locations, cleaning corpses, responding to dilemmas, and other events. The best strategy is to visit as many locations as possible and designate your survivors to search each one."
"...Searching a location might also reveal a rescue clue. If the location has a clue then a searching survivor will find it in the first hour,"

"There are dozens of positive and negative modifiers in the game, from injuries and intoxication, to exercising and reading."

"Your survivors will start to barricade doors and then windows. If they do not have barricades, they will break down furniture at the location.

There are two strategic options: slowly and quietly; quickly and noisily. The former will see survivors using only quiet tools to slowly barricade an entrance. Survivors will work together on the most accessible entrances first.

The faster option will see survivors quickly barricade doors and windows, using the best tools available. This will result in quickly barricaded location (assuming the survivors are effective at barricading and have strong relationships), but will create a lot of noise at the location."

Spotting:
"Survivors who are actively on this task will not only spot zombies nearby, they’ll also spot zombies around neighbouring locations."

Distraction:
"Zombies aren’t too smart. You can lead them toward a location by creating a distraction. You can create a small distraction (make noise) at any time, but you’ll need a stereo to create a moderate distraction (play music) and gasoline and a lot of furniture items for a major, town-wide distraction (a bonfire)."

Idle activity:
"If you’ve erected some barricades and they’ve taken some damage, a survivor may make some impromptu repairs."

Sure, that's fine with me.

Yeah, I think we need to send a group out to scout for food, ammo, medicine, and to make a distraction... we can worry about that after we survive the night though.

I hope Ashery stops throwing stools around... he and Lightbane should be separated from each other. If the zombies in the morning are only a small group maybe Ashery should take the watch to have him alone.

You bring up a good point. All right, instead of having Lightbane trapping or helping out Ashery and Alicia, he should just modify items. We can't risk another noisy tantrum.

Its just a general guideline interpret it as you wish.

When morning arrives just abandon the safe house.
I doubt you will survive another night, they've broken through multiple times and most of your time is spent repairing and stuff.
Adapt and move on.
Also scavenge food.

I think the biggest problem was the noise level which we will have everytime when we set up a new safehouse (besides cleaning it from zombies). We should get rid of the corpses and rely on the barricades till we scavenged supplies and weapons from the surroundings. Plus there aren't better buildings nearby. If we have scavenged enough supplies we could make it to the house in the south north from the hotel. It seems to have enough supplies nearby and other interesting buildings. But for now I think we should stay in the building we have and avoid the school at all costs except for scouting. I suspect the most zombies in the surrounding will come from there.

Probably shouldn't make too much noise barricading till you have a good stock of weapons too.

Yeah, I think we should move to another safehouse soon, but for now let's take advantage of the fact that we DO have a safe place to stay and use it as a base to investigate other locations. The main draw for the zombies was definitely the noise from the barricading - this location in of itself isn't the problem.

We should decide on the details of how and where to scavenge when morning hits.

Also, I forgot those corpses need to be cleaned up. Let's put Alicia and Ashery on clean-up duty after they finish barricading.

Also, can we take a look at the survivors' relationship chart, Multi-headed Cow? I think we really should start a rumor right about now to get our relationships up again.
