Great game, awesome LP choice. When I played it, I went through most missions with Stratos and Charnel, as they were both my favourite gods and had the best combination of units / spells. Did a mission for Persephone once or twice in the beginning because her 2nd tier unit could heal others. The rest of her units were boring, just like her personality.

So personally I would like to see some of Pyro's missions (or James's if he gets more votes).

I'm voting for Stratos, his units look interesting.

Start with Stratos, them start doing Charnel and finally James. There's so many betrayal plots in this game, it's amazing!

Random ingame quote:

Charnel: "[...] Just kill them all."

Persephone: "Charnel, death is not the answer to everything."

Charnel: "True... Torture also has its merits."

Could be Nvidia thing too.
I'm on some old drivers from ~2009. I'll post exact version number tomorrow. But of course they're 32 bit, so... :)

Don't bother, apparently Nvidia fixed their shit sometime since I last tried and it seems to work fine now. Is it normal for the game to have a lot of Oblivion-esque stuttering while looking around and traveling though?

No. Game is supposed to be very fluid. Most of the fun is the frenetic realtime third person strategy gameplay infact.

It is still a unique game after all these years i believe.

I've noticed this too, but mostly in the "ethereal realm" (the map with the altars), especially when turning Eldred around.
During the actual game it's less noticeable, but the game isn't working perfectly smooth IMO (despite running at 60 FPS - Fraps).
Tried forcing V-sync but it didn't help.

I remember that it was running perfect on one of my older rigs, though. :(

Another weird thing: turning AA on or off ingame doesn't change a thing AFAIK - edges are still aliased.
Forcing AA in drivers breaks the graphics (black flashes on screen).

Alright, the final results of the 1st voting:

Code:
Persephone: 1
James: 3
Stratos: 8
Pyro: 3
Charnel: 4

So, we're gonna work for Stratos in the 1st mission:

It certainly seems to be some kind of problem with it not preloading textures. Highest texture quality causes horrible pauses (made worse by texture corruption during it, probably my problem), while very low textures has almost no pauses. Quite infuriating considering that the entire game should be able to fit into 1/4th of my available RAM space. It actually performs perfectly smoothly on max texture settings if I load a level, run around to load all textures (and encounter the ridiculous 5s+ pauses at times), then restart the map with everything loaded. But still, fuck that

Oh man I remember playing this game as a kid, skipping the last classes in school to get home earlier and work for them cooky gods. It was fuckin' awesome and had great personality. Of course, all the kiddies rushed into the popamole warcraft III (and we all know where that lead to) and this one went pretty much unnoticed.
Great choice for an LP; godspeed comrade.
Also, I hate you for having so much time on your hands to do all these great LPs.

There are also ghosts about. Very unusual. I've taken the liberty of identifying the most frequently haunted locations. I wish to speak to these ghosts. Keep me safe.

Deadly accurate with their bows, they are best against flyers or using hit-and-run tactics.

Except Persephone. What good is a holy warrior without a holy war?

23htypx.jpg
How like you, Charnel!

b8wqbq.jpg
Myself, I would sooner suspect Charnel. You do have a certain taste for destruction, don't you?

f1dqmc.jpg
And then Pyro's kinda power-hungry, come to think of it. He might hatch some half-baked...

Oh, the worm speaks! Look here, if anyone needs outside help, it's you. You pathetic, jiggling mass of goo!

Level 2: Each god gets his/her bug unit and a shield spell in the second slot of his/her spell book. The shield spells all protect the wizard in some way, and prevents slowing spells (see Level Three) from targeting the wizard.

23htypx.jpg
Persephone

New creature:

Scarab

2efoqy8.jpg

Type: Ranged
Passive Abilities: Shoots a healing beam at your wounded creatures in order to heal them. Scarabs are a supportive unit not meant for attack.
Active Ability: None

GameFags said:
Scarab (2 Souls): Bug unit that heals hurt friendly units by shooting sparkles (which can miss). The scarab is definitely a must-have for any beginners, as it takes the micro-management of healing off of the player's hands.
New spell:

Ethereal Form
GameFags said:
This shield spell makes the wizard ethereal and unable to be harmed at all for a short amount of time. While this shield spell doesn't last as long as the others, it does stop damage all together instead of reducing it, and is great for grabbing souls.
Mission 02:

2v9sw79.jpg

f1dqmc.jpg
James

New creature:

Basilisk

ofoa4j.jpg

Type: Ranged
Passive Abilities: Attack turns enemy units to stone, rendering them immobile and useless for a limited time. However, a side effect is that petrified enemy units are harder to damage.
Active Ability: None

GameFags said:
Basilisk (2 Souls): Bug unit that petrifies units. The basilisk shoots a ray that petrifies any enemies that it hits for a few seconds as well as doing a small amount of damage. While a unit is petrified, they take much less damage than they would normally, but it is useful to keep an enemy out of a fight or from retreating (especially wizards).
New spell:

Stone Skin
GameFags said:
A shield spell that turns the wizard's skin into stone for a long time. Stone Skin is the longest lasting shield spell, but it also has a very long cooldown time. This spell does reduce damage by a lot, and is good to cast before a battle.
Mission 02:

33ym2is.jpg

6gledc.jpg

b8wqbq.jpg
Stratos

New creature:

Vortick

qou1w4.jpg

Type: Ranged
Passive Abilities: Creates a vortex to lift enemy units into the air. This causes some initial damage, followed up by the damage caused by the subsequent dropping of the victims back to the ground.
Active Ability: None

GameFags said:
Vortick (2 Souls): Bug unit that creates a mini tornado where it's projectile hits doing damage and tossing nearby units into the air. The tornado created by the vortick is perfect for throwing creatures and wizards around, but it affects friendly units as well. The vortick is a fun unit, but not terribly useful.
New spell:

Air Shield
GameFags said:
A sphere of swirling air surrounds the wizard, pushing nearby units away and reducing damage done to the wizard. The push away effect helps to keep melee units from doing some damage, but not much.
Mission 02:

2hoix3a.jpg

2u796s8.jpg

jb5le8.jpg
Pyro

New creature:

Tickferno

f1ws9y.jpg

Type: Ranged
Passive Abilities: Attacks take away large amounts of mana but little health. Perfect for draining magical targets.
Active Ability: None

GameFags said:
Tickferno (2 Souls): Bug unit that shoots a laser which does damage and drains a good amount of mana from the target.
New spell:

Fireform
GameFags said:
The only shield spell which does not reduce damage taken by the wizard, Fireform surrounds the wizard in a sphere of flame that damages any enemies that get too close. If you need extra damage in a battle, this spell can come in handy by turning it on and just running into enemy manahoars, wizards, etc.
Mission 02:

2w59kpu.jpg

51sq44.jpg

kei4ph.jpg
Charnel

New creature:

Necryl

10fe6wy.jpg

Type: Ranged
Passive Abilities: Replenishes life when attacking, disease cloud poisons its target and prevents it from healing and replenishing mana. This disease cloud also makes victims susceptible to taking more damage. Be warned, as a diseased creature passes on the affliction to anyone it comes into contact with, your troops included!
Active Ability: None

GameFags said:
Necryl (2 Souls): Bug unit that shoots slime at opponents that does damage over time, keeps the victim from healing and regenerating mana, and makes the victim more susceptible to damage. This slime is contagious and any other unit that touches a slimed one will become slimed as well, including your units. Not a horrible unit, the necryl has a very specific purpose as you don't want the slime spreading to you.
New spell:

Protective Swarm
GameFags said:
A cloud of insects collects around the wizard, reducing damage that the wizard takes, minorly damaging any enemies that run into the wizard and giving some of that damage back to the wizard as life. A good all-around shield spell.

Is this such a good idea, master?

Don't worry, little imp, we will be freed from the tyranny of choices...

As before, you can pick any god you want. But you should also consider current karma:

Code:
Persephone: -1
James: -1
Stratos: +2
Pyro: -1
Charnel: -1
Your Karma with each God starts at 0. If your Karma reaches -4 with a God, you are no longer able to accept missions from that God.

Alrighty...

Which god should we work for in 2st mission?

DISCUSS!

Once more, Charnel is the only possible option. Failing that, James. Also,

his 2nd mission has an optional Dragon unit that you can obtain.

PS: Good Lp, Sacrifice was such an awesome game (like Messiah, Giants, etc.). In fact, I tried to play Spellforce expecting some sort of spiritual sequel to Sacrifice but I was severy disappointed. What's worse, as you know such original and unique games like these will no longer be made, Sacrifice is too complex for the consoletards . :decline:

Definitely not Stratos both his unit and spell sucks. Also why didn't he give you a boon after mission one? That 20% run speed increase(or Mana if you're boring) is really useful. Might even be worth redoing it if you missed it.

Anyways, Pyro, his bug unit is my favorite, and the shield has a decent duration. I would say James, but I don't want you laying a hand on that OP dragon as I don't want to read "And then the dragon killed everything" for 10 updates.

Dont worry, that optional Dragon can only be used 3 times.
