The May Day of 1940 would never be forgotten, yet Hope in and after the May Day of 1941 was almost forgotten.
While the risky evacuation of Italy was ongoing, the Allied forces in South America began further mobilizations to attempt achieving their first victories after more than one year of war.
The attempt to pocket power armorz aliens in the Northeast of Brazil didn't work, however, although risked, the divisions in Salvador could be rescued, or risk advancing further in apparently barely defended front lines, for unlike in the rest of the world, for now, in South America, the alien forces were very thinly spread.
Tripoli was of no strategic relevance in a situation like this one. Instead, the five divisions would, once the ongoing evacuation of Italy is finished, be transported to reinforce Suez.
The situation was dire, and enemy attacks could be launched at any moment, while divisions in regions already occupied by the enemy were still retreating. A massive evacuation operation has begun, covering both west and east of Southern Italy and escorted by a fleet of thirty warships while a smaller fleet of ten warships blocked the route to Palermo.
As soldiers whose homes have been lost fought for their own survival, the only thing happening in South America was the successful delay of enemy forces, as they concentrated on strategically important territories in the harsh environment of the Amazon rainforest, unless, unless their focus on Amazon was driven by the search for something else.
San Miguel de Tucuman, the last bastion of resistance remaining in the nation of 1eyedking, suffers a brutal attack by advanced tanks and undead soldiers armed with far better weapons than theirs.
In the meantime, part of the evacuated soldiers in Italy are being deployed to Reggio di Calabria to buy time for divisions that were still retreating from the north, including among them the brave Swiss division that volunteered to buy time in Rome, but was successfully rescued nevertheless.
The evacuation, against all odds, has been successful, with now only seven divisions in Foggia remaining to be transported to safety, or to somewhere that would allow them to retreat if, no ifs, because it will be necessary, without being chased and overran.
Despite the technologically advanced enemy forces, San Miguel de Tucuman has been saved once again, through the brilliant tactical use of its mountainous terrain.
In 23rd of May of 1941, the first phase of the evacuation of Continental Italy, preventing a disaster as terrible as those that happened in the Balkans, dooming more than half a million of soldiers, has been successfully concluded while reinforcements were being shipped to defend the Suez channel for as long as possible, because defending Suez would be critical for the second, perhaps less dangerous but much more emotionally significant phase: their exile to South America, last bastion of the human race, where they would, after and if managing to successfully defeat the enemy forces while there was still time for it, make one stand for Colon, or for as far as they could advance in Central America without meeting the dreaded tripods, while fighting together with local forces.
Men who lost their homes, and many among them who lost their families or even worse, had their families as names between millions in the vast lists of missing people shared between some of the remaining countries of the world.
They have made a promise, while aware of the fact that, to save mankind, they have forsaken their hopeless countries and even their continent. A promise to return to Europe, that would perpetuate through generations if necessary, however, they shall never forget, and maybe, victory could yet be found one day. However, the only thing that finally happened was the Ultimate DOOM Expansion Set for Kwanzania, for in the month of May, Amerikwa was finally completely occupied by aliens, and now, only remnants of Canada prepared for a last stand, aware, that the more they resisted, the more hope there would be for humanity in South America as they were buying time, drawing the tripods towards them, for once Canada has fallen as well, the mass of the Amerikwan invasion would begin their march to the south.
Understrength and disorganized, the divisions in Reggio di Calabria were in adelicate situation, and the risk of them retreating towards the wrong direction existed. Thus, well aware of their null chances of stopping the enemy, they are ordered to immediately retreat instead of fighting a hopeless battle. They must live to fight another day, if there will be yet another day for mankind.
And thus, they safely retreated for Palermo, defended by a large fleet of thirty ships.
Meanwhile, the last bomber division of Poland faces a terrible danger, while Finnish soldiers forsake the Soviet Union.
Gameplay comment: Due to some strange engine quirk, it's possible to order rebases directly from the unit screen but not by simply right-clicking on the province where you want to rebase when doing so in allied provinces from the allies created by the custom event. And thus, I could have saved dozens of divisions but didn't thanks to a glitch which workaround I haven't found yet by then.
At least this means this game will be much harder and challenging, that if it still can be won or if at least it becomes possible to survive.
Then, in a futile attempt to crush the soldiers in Palermo, the enemy sends a lone, unescorted and highly technological aircraft carrier, but it folds to the sheer number and tactical superiority of the defenders, for the aliens were incredibly dumb at naval tactics, as the fact they sent a single carrier without escorts show. The submarines in the region swarmed the carrier with torpedoes without the threat of being attacked, because it lacked any kind of anti-submarine weapon.
Meanwhile, the last bomber crews of Poland prepare for a long journey to depart from their fallen nation. True veterans, they also shall be in exile like the soldiers, fighting far away from home for people they never met or knew, and they also have made a promise to return.
A division that could be saved all the time, but didn't due to certain bureaucratic messes, is lost, dying of starvation, however, the remnants in there could still be saved.
And for their rescue, ironically, Malvin, Falkland Islands would be of critical importance.
Meanwhile, although lacking in white wymmenz, Central America would also meet the machete rape gangs, and apparently, there was a wide, undefended Central America, thus, the most mountainous area of it could yet serve as a defensive outpost, its defense to become the last hope of mankind.
It was also ironic, that the truly last stand of Poland in their home would be performed by a single division of Soviet expeditionary forces. The enemy ignored Wilno so far, concentrating on their race for Moscow.
A risky choice, that could liberate the industrial heart of Brazil if successful, is made regarding the situation in its northeast.
While the operation to rescue the still alive soldiers stranded at Tierra del Fuego continues.
And more than a hundred thousand men make their stand for Suez. The enemy haven't attacked yet, simply staying there, as to only prevent more advances by the allied forces, but the clock was ticking, the evacuation was still ongoing in its second phase: the departured from the Mediterranean, that sooner or later could become an inland sea for the aliens.
Fleeing remnants of the Kwanzanian army land in Vitoria, bringing the hope of a chance to push further such liberation while most of the aliens were advancing sluggishly through the Amazon rainforest.
And thus, the largest evacuation in the history of mankind begins in its longest phase, as almost a million of soldiers are readied to depart from their home continent and reach South America in two waves.
Soldiers in exile, making an almost one month long travel between the Old and the New World, preparing themselves for the inevitable, ultimate battle for the human race. Although not fully informed, they knew that Central America would host such a battle.
However, many were doomed and lost, yet, they were not yet crushed by the enemy for unknown reasons.
The last territories of Poland were still not attacked, but that would happen, sooner or later, to the misfortune of the Polish soldiers who managed to join the others evacuating Italy in time, most who left their families and everything else they loved behind.
Suez remained in allied hands, but for how long? The question had many answers, and some, as time would tell, could be extremely unpleasant.
The enemy launched a massive fleet of modern carriers against the defenders of Palermo, as they, overwhelmed by a swarm of technologically advanced fighters and bombers, were forced to retreat, severely endangering the hundred of thousand soldiers still to be evacuated and the now millions of civilians at Palermo, who would have nowhere else to run.
When all hope could be lost, a brave submarine commander departs towards the disputed waters, while the thirteen divisions tried to hold themselves against a massive horde.
They bravely, on their own, began to attack enemy transports along the waters, because the enemies apparently were so dumb regarding naval warfare that they couldn't conceive the fact on their faces that their tripods were amphibious, for the luck of humanity.
Could the allied forces succeed South America where even the most powerful nations of the world have failed? Could be there victory after all?
