It's one of those games where the good makes the bad feel inconsequential, even if there's a lot of it.

It's like with Torment. Yes the combat was shit and the third act was obviously rushed but the parts that are good are so good you don't really notice the bad that much, though i guess milage may vary on repeated playthroughs.
While the game itself is way too cinematic at times with maybe a bit too many cutscenes (because Vavra really likes this stuff), it is really a wonderful game that captures the essence of life in medieval Bohemia and maintains historical accuracy.
The industry needs more such games.

If only the combat was fun, or at least you could hire a few dumb peasants to fight for you. Seeing as the combat remains the same, I'm unsure if day-one purchase for me.

Dunno about "the best", masterstrikes are indeed annoying but for me it definitely was very fun. Slicing bandit throats at night, kiting and shooting arrows in people faces and simply relentlessly smashing dudes with a mace. Good times.

I think the combat should have only involved complex dueling for special enemies.

I doubt every radom mook would engage in highly complex martial fencing. A simpler engagement system for weaker enemies would have made the combat less of a chore in the long run and would have made groups more manageable as well.

This.
Heavily armored and equipped enemies have the annoying tendency to block and dash like crazy, making battling them very frustrating.

what? KCD's combat is one of the best if you exclude end-game mechanics.
Didn't like it. I thought I enjoyed it at first, and was just bad at it. But nope. Never came around for me. The late game stuff just destroyed it further for me. Wish they had gone for a more “less realistic” Mount & Blade style instead.

The whole point of the game was to be realistic. Not liking the implementation is one thing but wishing the game didn't follow its stated purpose is retarded.

Warhorse Studio isn't made up of a bunch pretentious fags who think they know better than everyone else. They understand that a game first and foremost needs to be FUN

Fun is a subjective thing. There's the guy who did a whole commercial route in Flight Simulator and had fun doing it.

The fact remains the game is intended to be realistic as its entire reason for being. Asking for less realism is retarded. Go play something else.

Dismemberment would've been pretty cool...

Priorities.

Besides, how often would dismemberment even occur in reality, especially against armored enemies.

Savior's Schnapps and all of the other potions weren't realistic either, but they were still included in the game to make it more fun.

Real bohemians drink beer to restore HP and heal wounds.

Yeah, masterstrike spamming and being locked into an autistic combat camera sure is realistic.

Finally finished the game, and I agree with the sentiment - overall it's a good game, but a lot of room for improvement.
There are too many little annoyances that start to add up (every bandit being a master swordsman, forced autolock in
combat vs multiple enemies, horse getting stuck on every effing rock, bush, or piece of wood, few bugs in quest
branching, some boring and pointless side quests, ending made for sequel, etc.). And also, playing on hardcore
without fast travel starts to be real pain in the ass, mainly because of the horse getting stuck on shit.

Having said all that, game still has that spark of magic which makes it all worth it and a good game in the end. Plus,
as others mentioned, it's the best portrayal of medieval life I've ever seen. Main story is also pretty good and executed well.

Btw, there is a HUGE missed opportunity for some horror in this game... traveling and roaming the woods during nighttime
was scary as fuck - until I realized there are no wolves, bears, or any kind of predators. Then it became just creepy. So if they
just add some scary animals for the sequel, it will be great. Personally, I'd put in some cultist, Satan worshipers and just a tiny bit
of supernatural. Mindfuck would be off the charts...

Plus enemies only spawn on the roads so hiking across the countryside is entirely safe unless you stumble upon some Cuman camp and need to remove some kebab.

Bushes- Collision Remover is pretty much mandatory if you decide to replay now, no idea what the hell the devs were thinking with that one. Traveling around becomes much less aggravating when you don't need to dodge every little bush.

Yeah, they should also add wild animals there.
Packs of wolves, maybe a rare bear encounter.
Combat definitely has to be improved.

But part of the experience of playing kcd is getting furious at the bushes to the point that you go into your backyard and start aggressively trimming your own bushes out of revenge

I'm talking about the intention. The execution is a different question.
