The game looks pretty good, tho the original looked better. Tho generally the legend for king arthur is getting old and boring at this point. It is about some retarded degenerate that fucked his sister, found a sword, became king and got killed by his inbreed bastard lol. It is getting old at this point.

A creative who wanted to make something based on knightly legends but doesn't want to do king arthur has a lot of options. Lohengrin, Finn McCool, Cu Cuhlain, Orlando Furioso, Palmerin, Amadis, Bayard the Good, The Faerie Queen. But I think most normies might be sick of the name King Arthur but know only the broad strokes of the legend, and little or nothing of the stories of the individual knights.

December Early Access Patch Tidbits

Knights,

December’s here, and with it soon we’ll have a new Early Access patch. And oh boy it’s an exciting one! We’re not only adding the optional PvP mode to the game, but new items, graphical enhancements and game changing balance and difficulty updates will be a huge part of this update.

We’ll soon announce the release date of the patch, as well as post the detailed patch notes - and MOST DEFINITELY will play some (absolutely, totally fair and definitely not scripted to oneshot you if you come even close to winning kind of) PvP with you folks -, but till then, let’s see what to expect from the update on its single player side.

Camelot upgrades - All the buildings in Camelot - well, except the Crypt - will get new upgrades that are more in-line with our characters’ progression. Their costs changed drastically as well, so say goodbye to their resource costs in many cases. For instance, you can now respec your heroes at the Training Ground - Heroes can now reset their skill points for 300 gold pieces and it’ll take one mission’s time.

Enchanted Tower changes - As mentioned in our previous post, curses will be, for the most part, removed, thus the Enchanted Tower will need to undergo a bit of renovation. It is now functioning as a Relic shop, where you can get new items, scrolls or sacrifice ones you won't need.

Vitality and HP changes - Now this is a big one. Our heroes’ Vitality was increased, while their base HP was removed. Only a thin layer of HP remains if your heroes have the appropriate enchants, items, skills or building upgrades. The reason for this change was to make the ranged-melee meta more balanced, and to make Vitality a bigger life-belt, which cannot be one-hit that easily. This also means that Armour got a lot more important and ranged heroes won’t be able to move as recklessly as before.

Adventure Map - The adventure map got a shiny rework.

Skill balance changes - While new skills will be added, some existing ones got rebalanced as well. Just to name a few, Lady Dindraine’s Fire Arrow deals 70% weapon damage instead of 50%, while Sir Ector’s Fire Blast skill got nerfed a bit, down from 100% to 70%. The Sage’s Inspire skill now costs 3 Action Points instead of 4, and the effect immediately takes place. But we can mention the Champion class’ Power Attack skill, which causes 15% Armour Breaking instead of 30%. And so on, the full list will be in our detailed patch notes.

A stronger Knight of Midnight - Many of you gave us feedback (and we’re really glad that you did, thank you!) that the Act 1 boss was a bit easy, at least on easier difficulties. Let’s just say, some of his mechanics got a revamp and the fight is now a lot more challenging. Sir Yvain and his crossbow skills won’t be enough this time.

Reworked Hide ability for the Vanguard - The unique Hide ability was another feature, which got a lot of feedback. So we changed a thing or two: Getting into hidden state will no longer be free, it’ll cost 2 Action Points, but in return moving in hidden state will no longer cost double amount of Action Points. Moreover, the Vanguard will receive the Surprise bonus when they get into hidden state, and not in the turn followed by it. Manually disabling the hidden state ability won’t be possible, our heroes can only get out of it by using an active skill or if their position is revealed by an enemy unit. So, as you can see, a lot of changes here.

Itemization - We reviewed all the items currently in the game, and some weaker Relics got an upgrade, while Common items with really powerful enchants on them got a nerf. The damage range of the weapons now all depend on their rarity, so Common weapons will have a really wide range, and as you move up on the rarity table, this range will get thinner and thinner. Besides that you’ll see several new, pretty interesting enchants added as well.

Very Hard difficulty - If you had issues completing Act 1 in Very Hard mode, that is completely fine. It was OP as hell, so in this patch we buffed the effects of the campfires a bit.

Oh and a really good one for the end: Drinking a Healing potion will now remove all debuffs as well.

Of course this is not everything, only some of the notable ones. Our main patch notes - coming very soon - will have the complete list of changes.

Just to remind you folks, we've redesigned our website a few days ago, and launched a newsletter with it too. Kickstarter backers and those who sign up to it, will receive an exclusive cosmetic IVORY DEFENDER skin for Sir Mordred upon the full release.

So again, thank you all for the support, we'll be back soon with more info and with a release date for our December patch.

Avalon awaits!

NEW EARLY ACCESS PATCH COMING TOMORROW

Good news Knights,

We have a date for our next Early Access patch, which is… tomorrow, December 15!

As mentioned in the previous Kickstarter updates, this patch will include the first iteration of the optional PvP mode - unlocked thanks to you as a Kickstarter stretch goal - a slightly redesigned Camelot management, a rebalanced Act 1 and many, many additions, changes and fixes. Be sure to check the detailed patch notes tomorrow, but we'll link it here as well, once it is out.

We've also released the third installment of our dev diary series, this time focusing on what's beyond the main story campaign and the tale of Sir Mordred and King Arthur. This means PvP, the Endgame and a sneak peek at the Seasonal features. So a lot of great new footage! Gamespot has the trailer here.

Avalon awaits!

December Early Access Patch Now Live

Knights,

King Arthur: Knight's Tale's latest Early Access patch is out now on Steam. The fully detailed patch notes can be found over here. It's a lengthy list, so in this update we only highlighted some of the biggest changes:
  • Optional PvP mode is now in the game
  • The structure of Act 1 and the Adventure Map got redesigned
  • The buildings in Camelot got new upgrades and features
  • Instead of removing Curses, The Enchanted Tower is now a building dedicated to Relic items
  • New skills and new items
  • Some of the basic mechanics, such as Vitality, HP and Armour, got rebalanced
Here's a quick tutorial for the first iteration of the PvP mode:
  1. To launch a PvP map, first click on "Multiplayer" in the Main Menu.
  2. By clicking on it, you'll access the "Match List" menu, where you can check all the open public games available. You can either join one ("Join Match") or create your own match ("Create Match").
  3. Creating a match opens up the "PvP Skirmish Game" menu. Here you can customize the game, select your heroes, the maps, change the turn limits, set a description so your friends can find you easier, and so on. Your friends can join via the previously mentioned "Match List" menu or via your invite ("Invite Friend").
  4. Once matched and once you're good to go, both of you click "Ready". The host should also click "Start Match" after that.
Worth mentioning, that save files from the previous version still work, but since a lot of features in Act 1 got reworked, we highly recommend starting a new game. If you haven't played since the very first Early Access version though, your save files won't work.

Avalon awaits!

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
For some reason there are a lot of left handed people in the game.

This is actually a recurring thing with Neocore.

Ahhh it is just lefty overcompensating for its deformity. Ahhhh in the good old days lefties were burned or stoned to death.

Hey, cool it with the English myth and legend bashing you Bulgarian. What do you guys have for folklores and legends? Baba Yaga and witches it seems from a quick internet search. A pig riding witch who goes into battle against a crocodile. Hmm. Now how come they didn't manage something like that in W3?.

    • Heroes who have the opposite Morality as your dismissed Hero will have their Loyalty increased by 1 point
    • Heroes who have the same Religion as your dismissed Hero will have their Loyalty decreased by 2 points
    • Heroes who have the opposite Religion as your dismissed Hero will have their Loyalty increased by 1 point

Misc
  • Several new traits have been introduced
  • Unique loading screen pictures have been added to all campaign missions and side-story missions
  • Relic dust now can be looted from missions as well
  • Renamed the Constitution stat to Physical Debuff Resist and the Willpower stat to Mental Debuff Resist
  • Reorganized the order of the information on the top of the Soldier Info window: the temporary effects get displayed first, followed by the effects coming from passive skills and lastly the active skills of the unit
  • Objects which can be attacked have received their own Info window and skill description (like totems)
  • Reworked the way we can cure our Heroes' injuries: now if a Hero has more than one injury, all the injuries get treated simultaneously
  • Implemented the edge-panning feature on the Adventure Map so players can move their camera simply by moving the cursor to the edge of the map
  • Removed the Magnifying Glass as well as the Ctrl hotkey for the Detailed Soldier Info Window. The window will now appear on cursor highlight and to stick it, you will need to hold Ctrl

  • Halved the price of the normal-sized Healing Potions
  • Jewelries and Accessories give Physical and Mental Resists now instead of Vitality
  • From now on, the more loot of the same type you acquire on a given map the less chance you will get any more from this type
  • Bleeding no longer causes damage after every step taken by the inflicted unit but it suffers 15% damage at the start of its turn and after every action
  • Doubled the amount of Relic Dust acquired from sacrificing Relic items in the Enchanted Tower

Story and Lore - Dev interview

LORE
King Arthur: Knight's Tale will be released in less than a month, so a refresher might be needed for newcomers. What is this game in terms of its lore? How does it bring new blood into the Arthurian myth?

Narrative designer Viktor Juhász answers the most important questions on behalf of the Story Team - seven questions about the story and the lore of our upcoming game.

1. King Arthur: Knight's Tale takes the Arthurian legend in a new, exciting direction - please introduce the plot and setting of the game briefly.

King Arthur: Knight's Tale begins where most of the Arthurian tales end, after the Battle of Camlann, which was the final skirmish between the Once and Future King and his nemesis, Sir Mordred. There are several versions to this legend, but most of them ends when Arthur kills Mordred but receives a mortal wound as well. The mysterious Lady of the Lake, the mighty enchantress who once gifted Arthur with the Excalibur, has the wounded King Arthur transported to her magical island, Avalon, where the healing powers of the land can nurture him back to health and the Once and Future King will return to defend Britannia in the times of need.

The main idea behind Knight’s Tale for me was the question that drives storytellers – what happened after all that? What if this grand plan didn’t work as intended? What if the Once and Future King has been stuck somewhere between alive and dead, becoming something that could not be healed and cannot die? I imagined a monarch writhing in endless pain, slowly going insane, a king with otherworldly powers trapped on an island that is suffused and shaped by magic, which he will begin slowly to turn into his nightmare.

This is where the Lady of the Lake enters the stage again. She has become powerless in her own domain and she is watching helplessly as the king destroys everything. She needs someone who could stop Arthur before Avalon succumbs to his fever dreams. Sometimes the only option is far from the most ideal solution: the Lady, with great concern, decides to bring back the nemesis of the king. After all, Sir Mordred almost finished the job once, so who could be a better candidate to take on the terrible presence of Arthur himself?

2. What were the main inspirations behind this unique dark fantasy take on the Arthurian legend?

As far as I remember, the idea came up in 2018, during a casual discussion about how the potential settings for our next planned game should look like. The direction had already been set that time, so we were brainstorming a dark fantasy world leaning into grimdark, with heroes and magic and monsters. We already had various pieces of concept art commissioned from our talented artists who had been toying with ideas rooted in dark medieval fantasy. One of the art pieces depicted a wrecked throne room with a colossal dragon corpse sprawled among the rubble. “What if this place were Camelot?” – that was the question that set everything into motion, giving birth to a war-torn kingdom, fallen knights and the dying king.

6a41359e6f7a26e2ea2620cef5e85f3e.jpg

3. It's been a while since NeocoreGames did a King Arthur game. How does Knight's Tale relate to those older titles?

Knight’s Tale tells a stand-alone story and it is totally understandable without being familiar with any of our previous King Arthur games. Those games were set in the warring realm of mystical Britannia and depicted the rise and the conquests of the Once and Future King. Knight’s Tale is set after the last battle in Britannia and the story is tied to the mystical island of Avalon. It includes all major characters, factions, mythical creatures and tropes from our own Arthurian mythology, but places them into a brand new environment. Knight’s Tale is absolutely comprehensible for newcomers, and for the players of our previous Arthurian games it also offers a huge amount of familiar elements.

4. Mordred plays a central role in Knight's Tale, seemingly a heroic one too. Why was he chosen for this role? What is it that the story team finds compelling about him?

The idea, as most of the sparks that drive the thought process in the Story Team, came from an inspired conversation between János Tóth, my fellow narrative designer and myself a good while ago. At that point I had been already brainstorming about the mad, dying king and his terrible influence on Avalon, but I felt that although making him the big bad and sending the Knights of the Round Table against their former king and friend might be worth exploring, it also felt… slightly too convenient. And that was when János came up with the idea of bringing back fearsome Sir Mordred from the dead, granting him his own knightly tale, and with that, a chance for redemption (or the chance to continue his dreadful ways) and then it all clicked.

b8452a42357e2d82feb1408e8435a790.jpg

5. Now Arthur himself is depicted as an undying mad king, framed as the main antagonist. Do you have any concerns that this might be too wild for hardcore Arthur-fans? What was the thought process behind this new take?

We admit it's quite a radical take! Although the Arthurian mythology has an eternally wounded king, the Fisher King, so in a way it is a nod to those who like their Arthurian tales, the story also offers answers to why the king ends up in this nightmare scenario, linking the events to much darker events in the background. When we decided to make some radical adjustments to the mythology, we also wanted these changes to serve the plot. On the other hand, with all the various interpretations of the Arthurian mythology out there – and with each passing month there seems to be a new one, which is absolutely thrilling! – we hope that by playing with the familiar elements we can offer a fresh take on the material.

6. What is the ratio between the classic Arthurian elements and original material? Any returning characters or places that we might know from the myth (or the previous games)?

Our previous King Arthur games had already been colorful remixes of Arthurian mythology, blending dark fantasy, Celtic legends, medieval romances, the Morte d’Arthur and some slightly anachronistic ideas. Those games leaned heavily towards fantasy, and by transporting the main characters of the Arthurian mythology to the magical island of Avalon, the ratio of original material has become larger. However, it still is all rooted in the legends. One of the most exciting aspects of the narrative design was to incorporate as many of our already existing characters and characteristic locations into a brand new story, so yes, there will be familiar faces and themes. And that is just the main campaign, as the endgame presents some well-known characters, especially the ones from mythology.

b39235c25b5dac7cd1b36ec8a574667d.png

7. The player agency in this game extends to moral decisions and diplomacy - will we see changes in the story in different playthroughs?

The main storyline milestones are set – after all, this is all about Mordred trying to find and destroy King Arthur –, but the game offers meaningful choices to solve problems, and these decision influence everything in the campaign, from the tone of the story to the actual arrangement of Mordred’s Round Table – and with each hero being a very strong personality, certain combinations can lead to quarrels that shake up this setup –, and under special circumstances these decision can also unlock storylines or unique heroes. The narrative will adapt to these changes and move along, so characters, management options, resources, magic items can vary from replay to replay.

The full version of King Arthur: Knight's Tale will be released on March 29, 2022. An Early Access version featuring the first act is available now on Steam!

One Month Till The Full Release

Knights,

The past year flew by so fast! We've launched a successful Kickstarter campaign back in October, 2020, followed by an Early Access launch in January, 2021. Now, a bit more than a year later we're getting ready to launch the full release of King Arthur Knight's Tale (March 29, 2022 as previously announced)! We'd like to thank you all for joining us early, whether joining the Kickstarter or the Early Access on Steam, supporting us and the project.

As said many times before, we'll have three more Acts, a post-campaign endgame and hours and hours of gameplay awaiting you in the full release. The game got much bigger than planned.

Spoiling the rest of the story till the release would be a bit cruel, so, no spoilers, except a few more early previews of Act II of the story campaign below. Act II's length will be similar to Act I, with a new region of Avalon, new enemy factions and heroes.

NME Gaming's preview

God is a Geek's preview

GameGrin's preview

3DJuegos' preview for Spanish speakers

Also here's a collection of new blog posts for new players, diving a bit more into the game's mechanics, such as the RPG elements, Camelot management and so on. Treat them as beginner's guides. We'll have more of these as we're getting closer to the full release.

It's your turn - The basics of Knight's Tale

This builds character - RPG elements

It's not a model - Rebuilding Camelot

Let's Joust! - PvP in Knight's Tale

We'll soon have more info regarding digital Kickstarter rewards and launch details, as we getting closer to this late-March date. Until then, you can find us on Discord, be sure to join and feel free to ask us anything!

Avalon awaits!

New Release date: April 26, 2022

Knights,

We have decided to move the release date of King Arthur: Knight's Tale from March 29 to April 26.

Content and gameplay-wise, King Arthur: Knight's Tale is mostly finished and ready for release, but over these additional four weeks we'll be focusing on improving voice acting and finishing localization tasks, in addition to testing, ensuring our players get the best and smoothest launch experience possible.

It wasn't an easy decision to make, but still, we think it was the right one, as our intention is to release a game we can be proud of. We'll use the additional time to iron everything out properly. At the same time, we'd like to apologize for making you wait (again) a tiny bit longer, and would like to thank you all for your continued support.

Avalon Awaits!

With looking to reunite with her lost brother and locating the Grail, Lady Dindraine has quite a lot on her plate. That won't stop her from protecting Avalon, though. After all, what ruler of Camelot would turn away an archer of such skill?
Find out more about her story below!

The Morality Chart

BEGINNER'S GUIDE
King Arthur: Knight's Tale follows the best traditions of turn-based tactical games and RPGs, but there is a new, innovative addition as well: the Morality Chart. Today we dive deep into this awesome feature which will define your playstyle and the characteristics of your regency!

This unique system will serve as indicator how your subordinates and enemies will judge you during the game. One axis of the chart represents Rightfulness and Tyranny, the other represents Old Faith and Christianity.

As you venture into new missions, you will be facing moral decisions which will move these values on the chart. Everything you do will be reflected here: it will show you exactly what kind of king you are.

Let's say there's a plague! What would you do? Sure, you can burn down every local building to stop its spread… but you can send in a healer as well. Riskier, but more humane! Or, let's say you happen upon a group of bandits harassing a merchant. You can deal with the robbers and let the merchant determine your reward, or... if you're in need, you can just take everything. So how do you decide? Tough questions!

The Morality Chart isn’t just a fancy display, it has deeper implications in the game mechanics as well, by unlocking:

  • New heroes - Morgan le Fay, for example, will only be available in a quest if you meet the criteria of the morality value: push towards Old Faith, have its followers trust you enough to ask for your help. There are 12 heroes to be unlocked on the chart.
  • Boons - Gain new buffs to various stats or extra skill points for heroes corresponding to your morality.
  • New management actions - As a Tyrant you might be able demand tribute to solve the problem of an empty treasury, whereas as a Righteous king you might formulate a new law that will bring steady income at a slower, but steadier rate.

The loyalty of your heroes can be influenced by your standing on the Morality Chart (well, among other things). Some of your heroes’ values might stand in stark contrast to the values you represent (take both axes into consideration!), in this case, don’t always count on their support and loyalty.

In short, the Morality Chart is a versatile and central mechanic that can affect other game mechanics, determine the heroes you can hire, influence the cost and assembly speed of certain buildings, even the time and money spent on recovery.

As you play, always be mindful about the most important question at the heart of Knight’s Tale: what kind of king do you want to be?

Classes of the Round Table

BEGINNER'S GUIDE
King Arthur: Knight's Tale will be released in less than a month, so let's review what kind of unit types you will be controlling - more precisely: what are the various benefits the knights will bring to the Round Table?

During your quests, you will meet some of the best known heroes from the Arthurian myth. Some of them have unique personality traits and skills, and depending on their personal history and morality, they can be loyal or reluctant. But generally, when you’re assembling a party, you should know how the different classes fare on the battlefield.

This classes are the following:

Defender

These warriors can withstand more hits, so they are acting as protectors, using their abilities to defend other characters as well. In turn, they're not as skilled with a weapon, their hits deal less damage.

Sir Mordred himself is a Defender, but another good example is Sir Pelleas, a protector of the downtrodden, acting like the embodiment of the very idea that led to the birth of the Round Table in the first place.

Champion

If you want to deal more damage, the Champion class might suit you! They can penetrate enemy defenses like no other, striking enemy units with great power. This also means that their defense stats are mediocre.

A notable Champion of the Round Table is Sir Kay, the late King Arthur’s foster brother. In Avalon, he continued to act as Arthur’s seneschal in his absence, and most of the knights treated him like their leader.

Marksman

You don't have to let your enemies close. The Marksman can target distant units, taking them out effectively, and they're quite agile as well. But as soon as they get in a melee situation, they're in trouble!

A good example is Sir Yvain, who is prone to find himself in the middle of the strangest adventures – one of those quests earned him the nickname “the knight of the lion”, when he rescued a lion from a dragon, gaining a loyal companion for many years.

Vanguard

We also believe in the element of surprise: these combatants can hide and set traps to gain an advantage in the battle. If necessary, they can hold their own in melee combat as well.

Sir Tristan is one of the vanguards: the former troubadour knight now looks like a shadow of his former self, but he hasn't lost his skills, his bravery and the urge to fight for lost causes. His legendary affair with the fair Lady Isolde might have been the result of a misplaced love potion, but that doesn't change anything about their romance.

Arcanist

These mages invoke ancient powers - their area of effect offensive spells and curses can weaken enemy combatants quickly. Since they're not warriors, they are very vulnerable in close combat.

A notable Arcanist in this game is Merlin, an ageless, mysterious presence who has been haunting Britannia since time immemorial. He is an enigma, a power that cannot be controlled, a wanderer with strong ties to the Lady of the Lake.

Sage

These wizards fare somewhat better in a melee situation, but it's not really their specialty. In selfless acts, they elevate others, using boosting spells to strengthen allied combatants.

Sir Leodegrance, for example, is a competent Sage. In Avalon, Leodegrance remained true to his rightful ways but he began to delve deeper into the mysteries of the Sidhe, gathering knowledge in the ancient shrines of the Fair Folk and using his new powers to protect the new Camelot.
