there's a mod where you can crucify motherfuckers. i once had cat-lon and emperor tengu crucified and used them as 'scarecrows' in my farms. unfortunately (or fortunately for me), they don't die while crucified, and it was nice to have the two most powerful dudes in the game doing something 'useful'.

Damn, they really pissed you off :) Wish I had that mod while waging my own war against the Holy Nation.

getting to cat-lon and getting him home, without cheating with some übermod, is probably my personal favorite achievement. it was the getting there and back is what bought him a cross.

i still sympathize with him and his speech though,

"Has my judgement come so soon?
I had to thrall them all! Traitors siding with the humans! Treason!
Now we are nothing! What was the point of it all?
Have you tried looking after humans? They're monsters!
As they grow in number, so does their capacity for evil, and they won't even notice as they do it.
I was not the monster.
WREEEEEEEEEEE!"

poor bastard.

Cat-Lon never stood a chance against my overtrained maniacs.
It's unbalancing, but I like the prisoner mod because I enjoy converting the bad guys to my cause.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
can you conquer land with your build bases?
Not really, but you can murder the "tax collection" parties, then destroy the faction that sent them to claim a "spot", but you cannot really send your own tax collectors to other settlements. Murdering the tax parties of the Holy nation was still one of my coolest moments in game.

Kenshi is a gay game with an incredibly boring and static world, it doesn't even have dynamic wars.

HAVE YOU HEARD OF LOST IN THE ASHLANDS MOD? THE LATEST UNRELEASED UPDATE HAS BEEN IN THE MAKING FOR 3 YEARS. IT IS SET ON A COMPLETELY NEW CONTINENT WITH NEW LORE, IT ADDS DYNAMIC WARS, DYNAMIC QUESTS AND BOUNTIES. FACTIONS CAN DECLARE WAR OR SIGN A PEACY TREATY, EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE. STAY TUNED FOR RELEASE SOMEWHERE THIS YEAR. https://lost-blog.com/lita/

Looks good, but it's too early to shill it when there's not even a release date yet

Boron, the creator, said it should be released anywhere from summer to the end of the year, depending on his IRL busyness. There are users from the public playtesting it as we speak.
:hype:

It has an adversary system of faction generals who each have different randomly generated personalisty traits that affect how they wage war etc. It's focused on faction depth and interactivity, unlike vanilla where the factions are completely static save for a few events when you kill leaders.

I am gonna create a dedicated thread here once it launches because it easily outshines vanilla hundredfold.

That outshining is a bold claim without 1st hand experience or gameplay footage for proof.
My fellow Codexer, Boron is a well known name in the Kenshi modding community. He's the one who managed to implement firearms with full animation and sound, which was considered beyond Kenshi's modding capabilities.

You can easily search up videos showing off the firearms and all the new architecture buildings Boron has made for various factions, unlike vanilla which uses the same buildings for every faction.

Have you played it?
No, I have not played it myself as I, like many Codexers, scorn early access and play-testing. I have talked to Boron and people who have signed up for the beta many times, however. It's not some kind of a hoax. Merely the fact that factions can actually fight for and overtake any city is a game changer compared to vanilla where factions sit in one place.

Sounds a lot more promising that anything commercial upcoming, that mod. Bit too much to be true, but we will see.

Playing again for the first time in a few years. I am using Living World and a few other mods. Not sure what the goal of this playthrough will be yet, but probably will not be trying to build a huge base or fight any of the major factions.

Right now it's just my main char, Ruka, and Kang. It's wild how easy it is to just spend hour after hour, running around fighting bandits and whatnot. The game is very easy to get into and immerse yourself in.

I am farther into the game now, so figured I would do a little post showing my base. It's nothing special, no grand design or anything, just meant to be functional and give the team what they need to survive and prepare for adventures.

Here is a wide shot. There are only a few buildings, built over time as our needs have grown.

Here is the location on the map. I mainly get events from the Shek Kingdom, and their splinter groups Band of Bones and Kral's Chosen.

The Shek ask for food but if you don't have any, they leave without a fight. The others basically just want to kick your ass, but even if they win they just leave without really stealing or breaking anything.

I also got a visit from cannibals one time, but I made sure to kill every single one of them (heavy weapons ftw) and they haven't been back.

First up I'll show the farms. We grow wheat and combine it with meat from wild animals we hunt to create meatwraps.

The yield here in the desert isn't great. There are 400 plants total with an expected yield of 180 wheatstraw. It cycles fast though, and I only have a team of 6 + 2 dogs to feed, so it turns out to be plenty.

I also rigged up some spotlights on the side of the kitchen so we could harvest at night with no darkness penalty.

Speaking of, the kitchen is very simple. Two bread ovens, one cookstove, and associated storage.

I cook in small batches because the Shek won't take raw meat or strawflour, only edible food. It's easy to come in here and whip up a few meatwraps whenever the team gets hungry.

Next door is the workshop, which has a research bench and stations for crafting leather and leather armor. Leather is good for training an armorsmith because it's fairly easy to source and doesn't require much tech to get started.

This isn't really an optimal setup but I built it based on what my needs were at the time, and haven't felt the need to change it. There are also beds on top of the workshop.

Behind are the two windmills and a small building with a few battery banks and an electrical crafting bench. There's a copper resource just to the east of here.

The wind is pretty stable but occasionally it does drop off. The batteries are more than capable of meeting the base's modest electrical needs until it picks back up though.

Upon on the hill are the iron and steel refineries. These are relatively recent additions, as for a long time I just sourced these materials from vendors.

J4hnDlm.png

Last is the smithy. Here we craft heavy armor, which is relatively simple. And chainmail, which is a lot more expensive and complex. Chain requires a lot of steel which is why I finally put the refineries in.

xkqV8zt.png

And there you have it. Like I said, pretty basic. But everything works well, and between what we can produce here + source at the nearby waystation, we have everything we need.

I have decided the first goal for this playthrough will be to take down the Bugmaster, which is something I've never done. Then go explore the Ashlands and other far off places to find all the lore elements I can, and try to learn the history of the world of Kenshi.

So since this will be an exploration-focused playthrough, this base will likely never be more than a simple outpost. Still, I've enjoyed building it and may add a few more things should the need arise.

Kenshi is a game that I want to love but just can't get into because of the issues people posted, how static and soulless (same architecture for almost everyone) parts of the game are make it feel almost pointless to play. I had the most fun starting as a Holy Nation slave and escaping during a shift change at night because the mechanics all came together to make something genuinely fun, interesting, and unique. After the escape, I'm fucking bored. I don't want to play Rimworld and didn't care about Fallout 4 settlements.

Here's hoping those overhaul mods actually come out

Once you start getting a successful settlement going you can do more interesting things in the game like taking on factions and exploring difficult regions. It opens up more which is a shame because not everyone wants to do that level of management. It's possible to buy a property in a city and use that as a decent base, minimizing a lot of the work that goes into that.
