I wonder why people think Sawyer's gay. That's just so out of left field.

...huh.

Is Josh Sawyer starting to be jealous of Larian? It is extremely unclear to me why Obsidian couldn't make a game on the level of BG3 if the people there are competent enough.

The guy he's quote tweeting explains it.
1) Dev cycle stretching back to ~2017
1) Two massive games--and their Definitive editions--worth of tech and institutional knowledge to draw from
3) Super successful Early Access period lasting 3 years, providing crucial community feedback, bug hunting, and cash flow
4) Over 400 developers in 7 different offices around the world [not including outsourcing partners]
5) The license, brand, and world of one of the largest entertainment IPs in the world (D&D), at the apex of its popularity with the rise of the actual play movement, and a movie

This is a small, incomplete list.

Larian is coming into this game SWINGING, with a gigantic weight of expectation to deal with--but they're also doing it with an *immense* amount of wind (direct experience + resources + specialty tooling +++ etc.) at their backs.

As a TL;DR:
In an era of megagames, Baldur's Gate 3 is one of the largest attempted, built by a specialized group of people using mature tech specially built to make *this specific game*, reinforced by invaluable mass player feedback AND market validation ahead of its launch

Sawyer's thinking back to how Feargus forced him to add full voice over to Deadfire mid-development to "keep up with Larian" and how it nearly killed him. This is a "don't you dare put me through this again, Fearg" subtweet.

The same also applies to Skyrim, which is why Obsidian's attempt to make their own Skyrim went down like a lead balloon. You have to start with Morrowind-sized game first.

Why the fuck would people want to play your Morrowind-sized game when they can be playing Skyrim instead? Obsidian is not some indie studio and they absolutely have the resources to keep up with Larian. They just have no ambition and are content to do the bare minimal, while Larian want to push the limits.

If it's fun, people will play it regardless of scope. Kingdom Come Deliverance was a hit.

Back during the Deadfire days, no.

They just have no ambition and are content to do the bare minimal, while Larian want to push the limits.

They tried to push the limits of Avowed and it blew up spectacularly. The Outer Worlds 2 will likely be greater than the first. It would be a huge risk to go all in on Pillars of Eternity 3 considering what a slow burner the second one was.

If Sawyer doesn't want people thinking he's Californian, he should drop that accent.

I wanted to say that Josh looks really old in this video. Then I realised he recorded a 12 min video to discuss an article writeen by some dude on min-maxing in Baldur's Gate 3. Seems that Josh is still the massive nerd he probably was when he was 16.

Shaving off that moustache has made him look about 10 years younger than he did recently, which is still 10 years older than he actually is.

Can someone with a Twitter account ask if New Vegas's microfusion cells are supposed to be the same device F1's Power Armor description mentions ("Powered by a micro-fusion reactor")?

Someone uploaded the previously thought lost part 2 of the 2020 Fallout: New Vegas charity stream:

Oh boy... Someone recorded his Starfield stream.

Timestamped at 3:01 as the stream went live and he is making strange faces while having technical issues.

Timestamped at 9:01 as he is making strange faces without technical issues this time.
