One of the biggest problems is that utility spells or the spells that are actually unique are often powercrept.

Solasta is experimenting with light and darkness as core mechanics of combat. It still feels a bit experimental at times, but they're definitely at least attempting to do something with it.

IDK why so few tactical RPG's explore verticality...

Yep. Is on my wishlist, but I will wait more before I play. I saw a lot of people saying that underrail is on par with original fallouts in writing.

SsethTzeentach has a video about it and made me very interested. I mean, if game journalists hated it and Sseath liked is cuz the game is probably good. I was wrong of passing out only due CDs, after I finish my current water mage returning 2.0 run, I will probably try it.
