People start with this owl figurine for the raptor place? What if I didn't? Am I just out of luck and do I miss out on anything important?
The owl figurine is used to open
a passage in the Shrine of the Raptor to an area containing numerous wall inscriptions about the locations of tablets/glyphs/stones, which seem to be relevant to the main quest and which are all recorded in the quest journal. I don't know if missing them will have any effects in terms of obtaining information later.

Found my first backer chest. They cannot be lockpicked and are identified by a rainbow appearing for a short duration.

The contents seem fixed, no save scumming those.

Now if we only knew how many perk keys to keep around...

Small thing and most will know this already but clicking the item in the inventory then onto a 'look icon' will bring up the item description. Most every item in the game has colorful description text. :obviously:

Doing the same with an item on the assay icon will show properties of the item. Particularly useful for determining magical properties. The Super Demo did this differently.

There needs to be separate threads for this. One for pure mechanics discussion, and one for you fags that want spoilers.

Oh fuck... The backer items are absolutely overpowered. 6D8 lance, robe that has better AC than my best metal armor etc... Cleve clearly isn't a big fan of balancing his shit.

I would seriously consider avoiding them if you don't want to break your game.

I was wondering what owl figurine everybody was talking about. That clears it up

Anyone know how to summon the turtle at the Samhain waterworks? Also how to decrypt the Knightly codex for the Mausoleum

I found out a Nirvana flute in one of the perk chests in Samhain by the way. It heals all of your party members everytime your bard "attacks" but runs out of charge eventually.

If I didn't get it at my start area is there a way to get to that area?

The female vs male stats differ by race due to subtracting/adding more or less depending on initial value. A value of 40 in a stat will subtract 10 or add 8. Making human females lose two total stat points while Feyfolk females gain a total of 3 stat points since their Str is so low they only lose 5 Str while gaining 8 Fel. So basically any race with high Str the females make out poorly and the ones with low Str make out better, i.e. Drow Durendil Fey.

One thing I noticed as well is Inherent AC is pretty variable. Drakes have higher AC than even a Fey and Aeorb have 0 IAC making them considerably worse than humanoid's 10.

When my Sage reached 4th level, I gave her 1 point in music and had her equip a lute that paralyzes an enemy. By the time she reached level 5, her music skill had reached 63. :M I'll probably stop using it, though, as it's a bit overpowered.
You'll need everything you can get.

So can you just replace a bard with a Sage mostly?
Sage does not start with an instrument, so you'll have to wait till you get one from a chest, which shouldn't take too terribly long, probably before you get to level 2.

Protip: Be sure to sell or otherwise dispose of items in your party inventory before it fills up entirely and you receive a message "CRITICAL ITEM DROPPED" :M

So ultimately there's very little reason to have status effect spells on your Sage, or at least not Paralyze/Sleep since those musical instruments are very easy to get and 100% hit rate.

Of course, you could start with a Bard in your party, take his stuff and then dump him for the first NPC you recruit.

Not as far as I can tell, every starting area has its perks and Exclusive shit to use later in game, and you can't get to the other stuff if you didn't start there.

Yeah, each starting area has its advantages - except maybe Midnight Gardens. It's just like Briarwoods Shrine, except no owl, no Aquavia loot and no Rosy nearby.

Since this is similar to Wizardry, I'll try to guess:
[..]
  • DES: Destiny (luck, karma or both)
Can save from death in fights, "Destiny intervened".

Confirmed. High DES attribute causes the characters to survive many deadly traps, attacks, spells that would kill them outright. You basically become a Hollywood Movie Hero: the enemy shoots at you, but their bullets go to picnic elsewhere..

Each time that happens you spend a point of DES, though.

you dont need to summon the turtle. you can find her behinde a secret door ( water level ). i suggest using the wizard eye spell, if you can. you can find the door 2-3 squares from where the water starts.

Biggest problem I'm having is with status effects... Cure Light Condition doesn't remove stuff like Paralysis or Insanity, and I just can't find items that heal those.

Also, Shops so far are really shitty... got a ton of money but there's nothing interesting to buy - not even arrows for my archer!
If you begin IMPRISONED and discover Crowl prison, you get plenty of arrows and amazing strong weapons there! Just make sure to avoid the guards.--> encounters to never, when you meet them.
