Alright, rerolled an 8-man party and took advantage of Sanctuary's easy start, and finally able to do more than one or two fights without anybody dying. That's only by relying on the sanctuary's gift weapon, though. Not sure loading up on cleric, ranger and thief was a good idea at all, but we'll see.

Really cool that there's plenty of skills that don't initially show on the skill list.

Just finished Aquavia and it was very satisfying to kill the mummy. In Crowl now - game's really great so far.

Can't fathom how I'd be doing without Rosy though.

It's actually not so bad if you make smart use of your items. Items are super powerful, at least in the early stage. I threw unidentified powder at the mummy and petrified it for the entire battle. Then I penetrated its stony ass with my rod of missiles.

>How to scribe scrolls?

Right-click on the action button of the character and select it. You can't scribe scrolls though, only books. Scrolls are one use only.

>Backstab works by Hiding a turn then attacking?

That's how it was in Wizardry. Here you also have an additional backstabbing skill that only a few classes have. Probably increases damage when attacking from hiding.

Any sense in keeping Locksmith Keys/Common Gate Keys/Perk Keys around, or is lockpicking enough and I don't need these and can sell them?

I haven't needed any and sell them for the money. make sure you get 1k a piece for them. Raghilda is a cheapo and offers a lot less for most things. Rosy seems to be the big spender for weapons. It seems she pays more but I don't know for certain.

I should add they may be sued on some doors but I save scum for picking to get the skill point. It seems like a 100% chance to get a skill up for picking anything, so I'm not wasting any doors or chests I can pick.

How hard is this game to modify? I would love for there to be something like the patches/mods the classes and races get in Wiz7 through the Cosmic Forge patcher thing. Something as basic as that would really make the chargen and chardev a lot more interesting. Obviously bards are OP and the best fix would be pumping up the vit drain of instruments instead and having them get spells at level 4 or 5 or so.

Without the interesting race/class mechanics of the Cosmic Forge patched Wiz7, at least the unique class functions of Wiz8 would be nice, like rangers always searching, bards making quicker camps, etc. Or both together would be perfect. Throw in some feats and now we'd be cooking. The classes and races and chardev is just too generic and lite for 600 hours.

Its a great game with great content - it just needs some chargen/dev system loving.

I started a new party. 6 man and no recruitables unless someone can confirm some have content, like escorts or anything/something. Eight is too many. Six is the most where I can feel like they are each individuals and not just generic mobs. Eight is mob, six is a party. Also, with 8 on veteran it is too easy, six with recruits is too easy. Six alone hits the sweet spot.

So did I mess up at the boss fight in Aquavia? I killed the Mummy, but in doing so I
threw the vial that I found in the secret area a bit before. The one that had a picture of a heart on it and men with spears. It did 50+ points of damage to the mummy and poisoned it, so I thought it was meant to be used like that.
But now I'm at the King's bones having quicksaved and I can't do anything with them. I'm thinking the item I threw might have had another use...

My OCD is kicking in and I'm wondering if I should go back to before the Mummy, (quite an old save though) and kill him without throwing it? Does the item interact with the bones? It didn't have a *critical* tag I don't think.

I've got the crest of course, is that all there is?

*EDIT*- Went back to an older save anyway and beelined to the mummy. Got a lucky spawn with no adds and managed to charm him (odd, would have thought undead were immune), so went to town on him and killed him easily. After the fight discovered the vial was unusable on the bones, so seems like nothing of value was lost.

Gorlo in crowl had a bunch of unidentified spellbooks for sale. I identified them in the store menu and bought them. When I try to learn the spells, it always fails with the message "Failed to ID ?Spellbook?"

The books are IDed, at least, I see their stats and real name, though in the assay window it displays ?Spellbook? instead of the name. I'm also cimpletely unable to dentify the book, even with Identify 7.

Anybody a clue on how to get the spells into my casters spellbooks?

That might be a bug.

Usually you use the "use" command on spellbooks to scribe them, but you need some points in scribe (or at least one) or otherwise it fails

I just learned you can right click on the scroll case and put scrolls in.

Dunno why this didn't click before.

How do I determine what an item's curse does? So far I've found bone daggers and a death mask, but I have no idea what's their curse (bone dagger saps mana, I think, though).

And the death mask drains hp.

Can anyone confirm if the game has level scaling or not?

I think Cleve said once that your kill count affects which monsters from the 'pool of possible enemies for the map' to summon for you to fight. So, the enemy encounters are not necessarily static.

Apparently, the bone dagger has a chance to drain 'vitality' (may be health and not actual stamina). If this happens, the dagger vanishes. No idea if it's intended or a bug.

I also read a post by Cleve on Steam that says the bone dagger can hit ghosts. Perhaps cursed items are classed as magical for this to happen.

Is there any Way to get rid of party members to make room for npcs? Even having them die does not make it possible to recruit new ones.

It does. It's a bugged message: the truth is not that you don't have place, but the NPC is not recruitable.
When you try to get a truly recruitable NPC, the game offers you to dismiss someone.

Right click on their portrait and dismiss them (they don't need to be dead). Their bones will still be available in the Shrine of Raptors
