ugh, is that a rough selection this year.

I mean, Elden Ring won 1st last year, a re-release version of Persona 5 won 4th, and a porn game won 5th as a joke(? I'm assuming a joke unless there happens to be a large underground fanbase for Impregnation of the Elves here in fair codexia).

Lol! You can choose to be born jan 1, 1900. Man, a lot has changed in 124 years eh?

Uh? Education?

So, that is where some of the school taxpayer dollRs go to for education in the school system.

Ok, I combined everything into one big list, added Rance IX, Heads Will Roll: Reforged, Hammerwatch II and all the expansions with over 50 reviews, just to be consistent.

Every year some guy will come out to say the year way shit, right or not, I mean that's the way it is. Rpg Codex, more like Broken Fucking Record. Alright I guess that wasn't such a clever joke, but fuck it, the wit isn't getting any thicker around here. Truth is, I don't know the point of especially playing releases from the current year. As years and the medium extend surely we just play more and more games from other years, or more likely, become bitter impotent fucks that don't or can't play anything.

Anyway the list should have more side categories, not less. Making just one list was a mistake. Tactical games was a good choice. Also maybe create an "obscure indie" one, because I didn't hear about 90% of these titles

I think 2023 was a great year for RPGs, even if I personally didn't have much luck in finding something I enjoyed.

A turn-based, licensed D&D cRPG sold a shit ton of copies and the genre is now arguably mainstream. That's big important stuff.

We can all complain about how BG3 was kinda garbage, but I think this is going to open up a lot of new players to cRPGs.

Yes, this is normally the time where one would point that a flood of normies is going to ruin the cRPG scene, but outside of the tiniest indies, it's already shit and there's nothing to ruin!

I am optimistic about the future.

What effort to comment on something I did not mean, granted my statement is pretty open.

I was merely lamenting that I barely played any of these games.

We all know BG3 will be the GOTY.
I don't even know why you motherfuckers are wasting your keyboards on this subject.
Just give to BG3 and let's move on.
God, Swen is already insufferable. He'll be at least 3 times as bad when it's official.

Your ignore list.
The only good game I remember from 2023 is The Talos Principle 2.

For DLC it's the Phantom Liberty simply because there was nothing else.

CTRL+F'd Jagged Alliance 3 and it isn't on the list.

Shan't be casting my decisive vote on this semen slurping contest.

It's a legit great game, though. Illustrative that Swen nor anybody at Larian can count to three when they start a series at three, and BG3 kind of craps itself at Act 3, but he's getting there.

For real though, either BG3 or the King Arthur game should win.

Pathfinder: Wrath
Gray Zone is missing in the list.
Even though it's too obscure even for the Codex,
and one migth even ask if it's RPG enough to be listed,
but if Mimimi's Gambit: Divercity Crew is there, so should be the Gray Zone.

Disclaimer: Not that I was going to vote for that shit anyway.

TROUBLESHOOTER: Crimson Crow DLC should be in the list. While the release date is technically in 2022, only the first missions were available to play at that time. The rest were released episodically, so the DLC wasn't fully released until late 2023.

The number of votes a game gets itself is an indicator of an obscure indie, and good scores from the few who voted will tell you if there's a little cult following.

Surely 99.9% of people here have the brain power to deduce this themselves..right? Just seems redundant to have that kind of category.
