A community that can be ruined by one bad apple is not really a good community. Because it means it doesn't have any self-contained means to regulate itself and therefore, will be destroyed sooner or later.

Neogaf is not so bad, but it is very much console/hardware and mainstream-gaming focused.

Discussing actual niches and more hardcore gaming details is somewhat futile there - not impossible, but it will most likely be drowned in the mainstream topics.
I also think the audience there is quite younger than elsewhere and the topics do reflect that.

If you're talking about "natural" racism where we make quick judgements about people based on their appearance, including race; "oh he's black, he's probably poor", "oh she's Asian she's probably smart", then this kind of thinking is pretty normal and how our brains evolved to quickly access another human. @Tyranicon, if you're looking for dedicated discussions to specific games, check out /vg/ (it's usually more popular franchises, but there's threads to niche genres)
For multiplayer games there's /vm/ and for table-top /tg/

Re SA threads on games there'll often be a decent OP post describing the title with some guides and basic mods linked but little worthwhile discussion beyond that. Very rigid about maintaining the forum consensus on a specific title. Not worth the price of entry years ago never mind now.
