Codex 2014 Make the Codex Great Again! Grab the Codex by the pussy
I've got AoD running with 'Necromantic Thirst', this will be fun to see as I progress into the later maps.

But before that, I took a quick look at another wad called 'TNT Overcharged', another take on the OG TNT-wad. Except this one is crap. It's chock-full of traps, cheese, ambushes and 'gotcha'-moments. Even finding the secret in the starting room of Map01 rewards you with enemies being spawned in on top of you.

I got as far as Map03 before giving up, but as is customary for me I snuck a peek at Map30 to see how it ends. It doesn't end well, but the only saving grace of this wad comes in the end credits, where every monster has been renamed.

The list is repeated below, for your amusement.

Zombieman = Mr. Irrelevant
Zombie Sergeant = Chaingunner of Doom 1
Zombie Chaingunner = The Plutonia Guy
Imp = When You Don't Know How to Fill the Enemy Count
Pinky = Space Block
Lost Soul = Flying Asshole
Cacodemon = Angry Tomato
Hell Knight = Baron of Hell (Made in China)
Baron of Hell = Door with Health
Arachontron = Noisy Pet
Pain Elemental = Protein of Coronavirus
Revenant = Spooky Man
Mancubus = High in Fat
Arch-Vile = Ur Best Friend
Spiderdemon Mastermind = Disappointing Boss
Cyberdemon = The OG FaceRocket Man
DoomGuy = Try Hard Guy

Update: Just reached Map11. Fights are interesting, I gotta be quick to nail some of the boss monsters before they make me into a smear on the floor.

One laughable event happened: There's a bit in Map10 where the new 'Hunter in Darkness'-monster is introduced quite spectacularly. I was curious to see what monster it would count as in Aeons of Death... only to have the door open and there's nothing there.

AoD cannot into custom-added monsters.

This is gonna be fun in later maps where there are literal mobs of these things and they're all gonna be no-shows.

One map (can't recall which) goes for that "maze of passages where you need to hunt switches while only Arch-Viles are thrown at you"-bit that Plutonia did IIRC. It was bad enough then, it's even worse now.
Perhaps Plutonia's Map 11: Hunted really is to blame for the trend of putting Arch-Viles everywhere in a WAD to make it hard or throwing them at the player in a "SURPRISE MOTHAFUCKA" kind of way.

Hate them...

Hunted was an OK map for the time. Can't blame Plutonia because uncreative mappers feel the need to ape it constantly.
