Ok, thanks! I will check them out. I've already played parts of chrono trigger, when I had a nintendo DS, before it got stolen. And I thought it was pretty solid! One thing that I think FF deserves kudos for though, is it's combat system. I especially liked it in FF 8-10.

To make the most of your new PSX emulator...

Suikoden 1 & 2
Vagrant Story
Legend of Dragoon
Final Fantasy 9
Xenogears (fucked over by FF8)
Chrono Cross (fuck the haters)

Some questionable character design, and horrible random encounter rates all around, but those were part for the course back in the day.

I actually did really like the combat system in 10. Best implementation of turn based I've ever seen, lots of interesting implications. Thinking back on it, the combat systems of 8 and 9 weren't that bad in and of themselves, but the character building surrounding them made me rage. Drawing magic was grindy and metagamey as fuck, and equipment was all but none existent for both games.

The whole limit break meter thing was stolen from Lufia 2 btw, which also did it much better.

Not only can you be a terrorist that blows up plants, you must be :P

Thanks for the tips guys! I have actually played FF tactics executer, but unfortunately, it did not appeal to me that much.

THis music is so :desu:
I could have sworn I have heard this music in other FF games as well, because it gives me one hell of a nostalgia trip, I played FF 3, 8, 9 and 10 as a kid and teenager.

Yeah that theme has been in most if not all of the FF games.

Sound familiar at ~10 seconds in?

Perhaps it's the 90's PC port (which had some interesting mods, btw)

Have you switched on all the anti aliasing and filters and increased the resolution? You should get rid of most jaggies that way. It'll look superior to an unmodded PC version.

You can say anything about FF7 plot and few things will be unjust. But writing and plot of FF8 was incomparably more ( the most in series?) retarded and full of derp.

I still have to go through 4 (again; played it like 10 years ago and remember little except I enjoyed it), 5 and 6 (never did those). I guess by the time I'm done, i'tll be obvious whether or not to play the new port or stick to the original on pSX.

So far, not sure if :keepmymoney: or :takemymoney:.

Probably because it used to be one of the themes of Final Fantasy.
You guys are right.

Here are the prelude themes from all FF games except for 13, turns out that it has been in every game except for 8, 10, 12 and 13, so my mind wasn't playing tricks with me.

I also tried putting on on AA and some bells and whistles, and it certainly looks better. But what gets me though, is that it distinctly looks as as the polygon count on the characters are higher. On my version, the characters seems to be made out of about 20 vertexes. But it might be from just that angle that it looks better though

It's missing this one. I think this might be my favorite iteration of the song, but it's also very.. Christmasy?

At first I didn't know what you were talking about, untill I came to 0:55. Yep, it's definitely very christmasy! I think the one from FF 6 seems like the best one. Which made me want to play the game  Has anyone played it? Is it any good?

Moo?
SaGa Frontier is my favourite I always bring up.

Valkyrie Profile, Star Ocean 2, and Chrono Trigger all rank pretty highly with me as well.

Someone besides me who actually remembers Saga Frontier? The glories of the DSC, taking someone's entire MP reserve and using it to nuke with The Tower, how utterly broken Asellus or Red were with their respective transformations? To say nothing of Blue endgame with pretty much every spell in existence?

Running into the Earth Dragon in the bottom level of the Science Lab and wondering how a Gamera turtle with cannons strapped to its shell got that name? Then getting your ass kicked by it?

:brodex:

Extra bros for mentioning VP and Star Ocean 2. CT I also like, but not as much as the other three.

It's my favourite and generally seen as the best one. It's breakable as fuck though, but so are pretty much all FF games.

FF6 has the best cast of characters in any jRPG ever. It also doesn't really have a main character. You could argue that Celes, Terra and Locke are the 3 main characters, but not really. Everyone is important with their own stories. It's a very character driven Final Fantasy. Combat system is decent too with a proto-materia system, but also characters with very different special abilities defined by their "class" that does an excellent job at making them all individual (which I think FF7 lacked, the limit breaks didn't help). Sabin being probably one of the most fun characters. You have to input moves like in a fighting game to use his special abilities. It works well for his character since he's a monk.
