but Dreamfall/TLJ was never really about sexuality and I don't get why they are making such a big fucking deal.

... they are? It's one scene and only if you trigger the right flags. Kian certainly won't hit the gay bar soon and start dancing on a pole. Diversity/Racial discrimination is also a big theme in the game, the Azadi are basically the Third Reich.

The very first game in the series starts with a woman talking about how much she enjoys lesbian sex, just admit you are being
triggered
by gayz.

I've finished book 4.

Choosing to take the big blue bastard with me on the airship seems to have affected things, as did saving the other cat woman from execution. It looks like only playing Book 5 will show just how much these choices matter.

The game keeps telling you which choices will have an effect but you never actually see those effects. Maybe there will be just one long consequence reel of cutscenes at the end of Book 5.

As for the gameplay, it is still Telltale lite. Move, click stuff, cutscene. There are some puzzles which will take a few minutes to figure out, but they are just solvable by order of clicking.

I'm not complaining. I am sick of point and click adventure games, but I know other Codexers like them.

Kian's story is getting extremely SJW now.

Zoe's story is improving now she isn't constantly complaining about her life and doing that boring socialist politics shit. Book 4 is set entirely in Arcadia and it feels a lot like the best bits of TLJ and Dreamfall.

Visuals are good, performance is a little better, maybe 10 FPS increase in the move to new engine.

I hope they will make many more games I will not play.

These guys are the European equivalent of Double Fine.

Man, the political stuff in this game is so painfully heavy-handed and poorly written. Zoe's story has been fairly good this episode, though. Still, the budget and episodic limitations are getting harder to ignore with each episode; all areas are basically either corridors or wide open spaces with barely anything to do/interact with.

Also, thank god I didn't take Likho on the airship.

No idea. I know that he turns out to be gay, is all, and I found him extremely annoying already (which I why I didn't take him along). Good riddance.

What's funny is that in Longest Journey he insisted on being called an "alchemist" and he called all other forms of magic fraud.

They certainly went full holocaust.

Guess they realize they are utterly irrelevant nowadays what with everyone playing Tellturd/Life is strange games and trying their utmost to stir up some controversy.

I'm confused, why are people freacking out to that? Is it just the outrage culture that is everywhere nowadays?

Because it's certainly not the first game that has nazi references/parallels

???

I recently started The Longest Journey. Looks like I'll have a lot of Decline to look forward to, nice to know.

Due to lost save game, having to replay Books 1 and 2. That baby part at the end of 1 almost makes me want to quit now

Well, finished book 4, am all caught up now. Definitely glad I didn't take Likho along with me - everything else aside it's odd to take some guy constantly mumbling about killing me on a mission. Certainly was a lot of travelling around and watching stuff, but is par for the course. I foolishly anticipated a puzzle to get transport out of Marcuria but nope, and then they annoyingly talk about the stuff done off screen.

Book 5's going to rush things so much, heh.

Saga is just going to be doing magical stuff which doesn't mean anything at all.

As for Zoe/Kian, I can't even remember how things were left. I'll play book 5 but I will not care. The story and characters have failed to engage me. At this point I want to finish it just so I never have to think about it again.

Kian's about as boring as dishwater, really. Zoe's story I am somewhat curious in how it ends, at least from her waking up in the hospital bed (I guess Propast was a dream or something ?) I agree with the characters not being very engaging, like the entire game, really.

But, I am glad I got Likho killed (sadly not on screen :( )

The faux-Auschwitz parts with the fat female Dr Mengele were hilarious. All Kian parts fail utterly, but there could still be some hilarity when the redhead finds out he's gay. But admittedly the revelation about Klacks was interesting.

Book Five: Revealed

It's been a long time coming, but it's finally coming.

After months of silence, we're proud to give you this exclusive sneak peek at the concluding episode of our saga.

The end of the Dreamer Cycle is upon is...and it's called REDUX.

We're not announcing a release date just yet — we prefer to surprise everyone a few days in advance — but here are three new (and possibly spoiler-y) screens from Book Five, to give you an idea of how the episode's looking, and hopefully to get the conversation started.

And we're sure you'll agree there's a LOT to discuss. Just take a look:

Man, this game has been a failure. It pains me to say, but I think Tornqvist has lost it. Up until this point I've bought every game written by Ragnar and considered him one of the best writers in the biz.

TLJ is one of my favorite adventures of all time. Now, it had pretty easy puzzles, but everything else made up for it. Characters, atmosphere, dialogue, narrative.
Dreamfall was a disappointment to me, not so much because of gameplay (it was shitty, but gameplay was never a strong suit of the series- see puzzles in TLJ above) but because of the story going the wrong way from what I wanted. However, the story was still well written and an engaging one at that. Great writing has been a staple of the series.

DFC's story is just something mashed together, incohesive and cringe-worthy sometimes. It's like Ragnar took everything cliche and bad (untied loose ends, mystery for sake of mystery, big bad conspiracy) and made it a hundred times worse. He also seemed to forget the basics of what made TLJ a classic game- it wasnt trying to tackle many social issues, didn't try to make many allusions. It was a somewhat naive, funny, cliche-in-a-good-way fairy tale about a person saving a world (or two).

The only book Ive actually enjoyed is book two because of Marcuria nostalgia and the only puzzle that is worthy to be called a 'puzzle' so far. But again, I was expecting gameplay to be shitty. Not quite running around big empty places shitty, but still. I expected the story, writing and dialogue all to be good. They aren't. DFC creates and will create more questions than Dreamfall left. And the worst part is, things from TLJ seem so unimportant now in the grand scheme of things.

And episodic nature is another failure. Pacing is important in episodic games. I hate telltale cookie cutter 'adventures' but at least they know how to pace their stuff. DFC is all over the place. We spent 1.5 books doing routine stuff and then a lot of important moments are just spammed into cutscenes. Meh.
