At long last. No more copium. I'll admit the announcement made me shed some manly tears. First game I will prepurchase as soon as it's available. Now to wait who knows how many years for a release

Given Capcom's recent track record this is likely going to be a beast of a game, it all really came down to whether they were working on it at all. And they are.

I don't know. Capcom is one of the few publishers that still don't release games on Epic, exclusive or not.

Yeah, despite my shitposting to fill the void left by the teaser announcement, I actually don't expect EGS.

I'm hopeful for a good game, but... eh. I'll wait until they show us anything at all before I go there.

Give me cooperative multiplayer or give me death. REngine is good news. I know a lot of people thought that was a given with DMCV but you never know with Capcom.

lmao @ your life if you missed out on Dragon's Dogma Online. Pawns ain't gonna cut it.

see? upright horns, the "thumb" head shape, and if you look around, grigory has arrow barb tail.

the new logo is a completely a different dragon, aka the antagonist of our new dragon's dogma.

it's here
Turns out, you were right, it was the new logo

All that's left to do now is put Dragon's Dogma 2 out of my mind for years; easier said than done. And in all seriousness, I don't expect it being published until at least late 2025, if that.

But, having now talked to Itsuno himself through some highly-private back channels (and having promptly closed the chat before he could make me sign an NDA), I can reveal in full exclusivity that Dragon's Dogma 2 will not feature a player-created character. Instead, Valmiro will be the main protagonist we'll incarnate as he endeavors to gather herbs, a robust lantern, and various sundries for a long expedition. As well, Itsuno has done away with the Pawn system; instead, the player/Valmiro will be followed by a cohort of Feste clones.

Now, either that conversation happened, or I inhaled too much fumes emanating from mediocrepoet's leaky gasoline can.

After yesterday's bait, I've seen multiple threads on the internet talking about DD and saying that it was better than Elden Ring or any other thing From Software made.

Since the Codex is the only place where I know I'll get trustworthy opinions, I ask: Is DD indeed on par with FS games from Dark Souls afterwards? (I know it's impossible to be better than Shadow Tower Abyss, so let's just not go there)

I like Dragon's Dogma more than Dark Souls, but they're also two totally different styles of hack and slash games. Dark Souls combat system is a system built around your normal attacks, (which seems to be derived from Oblivion) where you've got a number of basic attacks you can do that all use meter. Dragon's Dogma's system also has meter management, but it's for special moves (and running during combat) only, it's a system mostly derived for the teams time on Devil May Cry, and is more in line (although better, deeper, and in a third person view) with stuff like Raven Software's X-Men Legends/Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and console Diablo 3. The game's combat is actually kind of like a cross between Itsuno's Devil May Cry and Marvel Ultimate Alliance...but with like Arcanum's fatigue system as opposed to moves being on a shitty cool down.

Outside of them both being hack and slash games set in fantasy worlds that are heavily influenced by Berserk they don't actually have much of anything in commo. At least Dark Souls and Dragon's Dogma, I haven't played Elder Ring or their other stuff yet.

It's probably coming next year. Dragon's Dogma 2 was originally set to release alongside Street Fighter 6 and Resident Evil 4 Remake this year. Street Fighter 6 is probably coming out in like February next year, the RE4 remake is coming out March 24 of next year, and Dragon's Dogma 2 (which was originally meant to come out before both in the 2nd quarter of this year) sometime later. Maybe it gets pushed to early 2024 because Capcom has some other stuff coming out next year too, but a 2023 release wouldn't be a surprise.
