Harbor-town from Risen is another decent Med-inspired rpg city.

They just need to step up their open world design.
yea

'k i see where people who just want a big bitterblack isle are coming from. gransys ain't that detailed

but i'll say this dragons dogma is the one game where i kinda like to just fuck around and do stuff

i dunno why i guess its the character creation and character movement in the game

sure the hidden chests will at best give you some item to wear for fashion's dogma but hey finding them is kinda nice

don't remove the open world pls

I found exploration to be rather pointless and unrewarding in Dragons Dogma. I bought almost all my weapons and armor at the shop in town. I found the game extremely weak when it came to satisfying rewards or interesting items at the end of a dungeon/quest. I liked the visuals and the combat system although there was a little bit of hp bloat. Killing ogres challenged my patience and nothing else. But besides the nice optics and combat, I found the game rather underwhelming. The limited number of different enemy types was disappointing and it became a chore after some time, having to travel the same paths again and again and killing the same goblins, bandits and wolves repeatedly. The interesting parts with the open world were the quests where you travelled through it, but after those quests, it had very little to offer by itself. Keeping open areas as stage for quests like the hydra head transport is fine and they should have done more like that. But If I could, I would scrap the open world mostly and turn it into a game with a clearer progression and less repetition. A trimmed hub-based version with proper quests would be more appealing to me. My excitement for a sequel is small and will decrease even further if they decide to go into the direction of currently commonplace open-world design that consists of tons of time wastes instead of well made unique quests.

I remember finding often low lvl equipment in areas with quests/enemies for a much higher lvl, which made them entirely useless during my playthrough when I encountered those items. Then there were some dungeons that had nothing but randomized item chests. The game has way to many nearly redundant items for its cheap crafting system. And navigating through the inventory menus was not fun, neither was finding a sack of gold and a random piece of chunk for most of the game. The teleporter crystals were an exception but I think with regards to equipment, there was only a single instance that I found a piece that was actually useful right at the spot - some sort of armor. But most of the time I could either not use the item since it wasn't for my vocation or it was at the wrong level and the shop had better items. At some point I stopped expecting to find anything useful, which made exploration a lot less appealing. Am I the only one that experienced this? Or do people consider this to be part of good exploration?

I don't believe the looy works how you are thinking. It is somewhat randomized but there is pre-selected items (loot table) that it can choose between. One chest might have three different items that it could have and it's random which one you get upon opening the chest.

Many items are low level in high level areas, but the reverse is also true. In an area like Soulflayer Canyon, you can get Chimeric Armor very early in the game compared to when it would begin to appear in shops. This is assuming you aren't rushing the main story, (your mention of the port crystals as something you like makes me think you might be rushing around) but in that case you shouldnt be over-leveled anyhow.

This is every single chest in the game. There is not "some with randomized items". It's all of them, even in the open world.

Anyhow, has anyone else been enjoying Dragon's Dogma again? Been doing a fresh playthrough and having a good time.

Playing a mage and finding it a bit slow, heard it gets better as a sorc, though, so I'll stick with it.

I finished the game last year and it is a decent game. Nevertheless, I still think that exploration isn't particularly good or praise worthy but it seems that the individual experience of the game can vary a lot. I dislike grinding and most open world designs in general, so I'm probably biased towards are more negative judgement when it comes to exploration in this type of game. Its not like they couldn't do it differently like selling hints where to find particular items or have npcs gossip about legends or myths mentioning where to find certain items. Like a derelict wizards tower or a forgotten warriors fort, a hunters cottage etc... It doesn't have to be on your nose. It could be worked into some of the board quests, like monsters are around that area where an old mage lived or something. Its not hard to think of ways to improve the game in that regard.

Dragon’s Dogma Online added more Greek mythological creatures likes a Medusa, a Sphinx, and manticores. Just pulling from the kind of European (Greek and British) and Middle Eastern One Thousand and One Nights stuff you’d expect, they could get much weirder. Arachne is Greek. Although Dragon’s Dogma is also a series heavily influenced by Berserk, and Daimon from Dark Arisen does look like a play on the final bosses in Capcom’s Ghosts 'n Goblins series.
Go figure, the one MMO I would have been super stoked to try out never came to the states. Go fucking figure.

The game is available for less than $4, if someone still didn't play it:

Lez be real. Anybody who ignored it for this long doesn't deserve to play it.

You can actually play it on private servers. It's very messy, there's no levelling up right now, but you can battle every enemy in the game if you play with the game files: https://www.reddit.com/r/DragonsDogma/comments/tjg3bj/ddon_revival_progress_update/

There's A LOT of reskinned monsters, but some of the unique ones are truly amazing:

I think im going to play as barbarian for some time, i even edited scale coat to replace scale part with highlander waistguard, it looks much better now.

Though i have no idea for some cool barbarian weapon that would fit this outfit, are there any two handed axes available?

No axes to be had, unfortunately. Gonna have to settle for some two-handed swords, maces, and warhammers if you're committed to the Warrior lifestyle.

Also, once you advance the world state a bit do a lot of good Barbarian-chic outfit options become available.

Closest thing is the dlc weapon that's an axe shaped sword.
We got hammers though.
