Nothing I wrote can be factually disputed. That's a fact.

The game has a lot of polish, but the outdoor areas look very bad. Judging by the fact that my 4 year old PC runs the game very smoothly, it was probably done to make it playable on older machines.

Also, posted Day 2:

Ugh those outdoors screens really look aweful. The Witcher looked 2 times better and that was released 2 years ago.

Well I am enjoying Dragon Age

Though I think I would really appreciate a developer remaking a Baldurs Gate 2d game, I dunno in 2d because you don't have to spend soooooo much time on graphics and the engine you can spend ALOT more time on quests, content and the story

Oh shit, there actually IS some C&C in the dwarf noble origin. SPOILERS FOLLOW

SPOIL SPOIL SPOIL:
First time I played through, I LARPed as an honorable but dickish noble. Wasn't backstabbing anyone, and when the one noble tried to manipulate me I challenged him to a duel and killed his son in the arena. When the youngest brother/prince said Trian was plotting to kill me I acted surprised and denied that such a thing could happen. I got my mission to get the shield, got the shield, then arrived at the dropoff for the shield and found Trian dead, then the third brother arrived with the king conveniently and I got framed and exiled.

Second time I played through, I was making noises about bumping off Trian and taking the throne myself. Played out mostly the same until I got to the dropoff, where I found Trian and a bunch of soldiers, all alive and well. He accused me of plotting to assassinate him which I denied, he said he was going to take me to the king to stand for treason, and I refused and he attacked me. I managed to kill all of them, THEN the third prince showed up after I slaughtered everyone and accused me. So I could have dropped my weapons and surrendered to the first brother and had my treason trial and get exiled, could have killed him and had my treason trial, or been framed entirely and had my treason trial.

Not bad C&C for basically an hour or two of gameplay for getting you into the meat of the real game.

Edit: Another small part of C&C that doesn't have real consequences since this technically is the tutorial but what the hell. In my first playthrough I killed the deal-making noble's son for trying to manipulate me. In my second playthrough I followed his orders since we were scratching eachother's backs. While in prison, you hear that noble tries to defend you, or at least get you a less severe sentence, which obviously doesn't pass. It's a nice bit of continuity though.

Edit 2: Since I killed my brother this time, the "Forced to join the Grey Wardens" dialog was slightly different too. I had a "I deserve to die down here for what I've done" dialog, where they say "lol put yourself to good use join us kill some orcs save the world" and you say "lol ok". Still Biowaring you into joining them, but hey.

And, oh, I loathe the auto regen inbetween battle sbut it does not help during battles. You cna very much die in this game. So, don't bullshit. I've died more already then I ever did in certain popular games here.

I'm not particulartly concerned about the auto-heal function during the battle, as much as I do after it. Part of the appeal rpg games have, at least for me, is that you set for a quest or a dungeon with a particular amount of healing spells/potions that if you would run out meant you were fucked. You had to manage them and distribute them to your party according to their role in battle, or if a couple of your party members were severely injured meant you would not able to rely on them for the next battle, and you would have to re-plan your strategy and approach. In other words, with the auto-heal function any sense of real adventure is lost.

Yep, I kept thinking the same. There are outdoor areas that look pretty decent, like the huge bridge in the camp, and the architecture in general looks pretty good, but the forests and swamps are hideous. I'd even say that TW has a better fun factor, but that may be bias speaking considering that TW doesn't become engaging until a good way into the first chapter. Still, the way models and lighting is handled in TW is superior.

Banal shit bor--oh hey, a pseudo-epic cutscene of a mighty charge and a valiant defense ZzzzZzzz LOTR-ripoff time.

More than any actual charge I got that LOTR feel from the ruined buildings. Those Gondor-like soldiers among half-ruined buildings really looked like in the LOTR movies.

I am not a graphic whore. I just hope that further in I will get to see some great art direction.

Actually not true as far as I seen. You really need those potions and I have used them up at a higher rate than I have in any other RPG I played that last years. A bigger dumbing down is how the health potions are shared with the whole group, which means you don't need to distribute. the autoheal is really no different from games were you can rest. The real difference is with games were you can't find places to rest.

I think I'd like to be able to explore other realms besides the decidedly-banal "Sword Coast" world of Ferelden which they've covered to death in the prequel books. Does the plot send the PC to the far reaches of the world, or does all the action take place in one kingdom and then end by asking us to buy the next game for an epic conclusion (e.g. Mass Effect)?

11-18 minute loading time sucks. Also the loading screen symbol looks like a Swastika sorta. So sleepy.

Are you running the game from a Zip drive? Longest load time I've had yet has been about 10 seconds. Most of the time it's almost instantaneous.

I ran back into town with my surviving character thinking that the platoon of guards or the mages or whoever will help me out and they just stood there while the orcs peppered me to death with arrows.

What a fucking stupid game.

On what ancient rig are you trying to run this? It doesn't take more than 10-15 seconds.

Anyway I played it for a few hours and decided to buy the original, the game's good enough to spend some cash on it. Sure, there are things to bitch about, like regeneration, too much filler combat, poor location graphics, false choices in dialogues etc. but none of this is deal breaking for me. The console-friendly shit like blinking items and exclamation marks over characters can be turned off in options.
The overall difficulty feels just right (on hard).
Writing, dialogues and voice acting are OK. Nothing great but definitely not cringe-inducing like NWN2 or Fallout 3. The game's probably the closest thing to Baldur's Gate since BG2. I'd give it a solid 7/10.
