Gragt, I kind of missed the story.

So... did you just go "Hey, Larian, can I come visit?" and they said "sure"? Or was this a special meeting that took time and persuasion?

It's even more fun than that: when rumours of D:OS going to kickstarter started to surface, Roguey claimed that they ran out of money. Swen commented on that on his blog, writing that the game was well under development and would need the money mostly to polish stuff. He also jokingly said that the Codex could send an emissary to check the progress of the game and that it is a real RPG and not an adventure game with stats. DU being DU accepted the challenge and one day I got a message from VoD asking me and two other guys from Belgium if we wanted to go see Larian. Of course I accepted (I've been a Larian fan since Div1) and for various reasons was the only one who could make it. I have to say that it was really nice of them to spend that much time with me, especially since I'm only a random dude from the Codex who got picked because he lives somewhat close. We're a professional bunch from a prestigious magazine as you can see. Still working on the article, but I didn't do much last week since I was on vacation — I did manage to listen again to the whole 5 hours recording on the plane and took a lot of notes and edited a bit what I already had.

It's going so slow it's agonizing.

Needs more press writing pieces about how this is the "real" new ultima type game, ride on the wave of awareness the lord british kickstarter has created amongst ultima fans. It's them that should be adressed somehow.

ForkTong I put this idea in the Kickstarter comments but have no idea if it was seen in the maelstrom.

Have you considered a limited digital tier with Divinity 2 developers cut or having it as an add on?

It actually seems to progress pretty well. They're making around 20k consistently every day and extrapolating this towards the end of campaign nets a pretty neat figure even if you don't account for the closing rush.

I just hope the article gets published BEFORE the Kickstarter for this game ends...

@Larian,
So a "Total Conversion" of U7 (not by larian) you think would be possible in the D:OS editor? :)
So..maybe LARIAN can't do it..but do you think it can be done? ;)
Zep--

@Zep zepo: Yes - I hope someone does
:)

:bounce:

And a total conversion of U4 with more proper virtue system not like that Forever thing.

Gragt's article isn't going to come out until after the game's release. It will be a retrospective look at the high reaching goals of the game's development prior to it's funding drive collapsing when a Codex article failed to materialize.

I thought U7 had weight as well. At least with the Exult version (but I guess it's true for normal U7 as well).
Anyway that's my impression from the refusal of some characters to put some stuff into their pack until I've rearranged my party's inventory a bit.

Of course it's possible. It would be a pain though (%some form of automated program, which would only be possible if DOS uses tiles, which i think it doesn't).

Why even try. U7 is still enjoyable as it stands, and the amount of work a modder(s) would spend doing a full conversion could be used to do more original work. Amazing how we will get not only a bunch of high quality crpg's this year but also several full featured editors as well, it seems like a huge conspiracy to take away all our free time.

Once upon a time this was the norm.

Just backed this, I really liked Divine Divinity and this game promises even more! Love the TB combat + spell combos with environment, it's like ToEE on steroids. Now if the Wizardry series could rise from ashes too :( Oh wait... There is Grimoire!
Sheer Amount of incline becomes overwhelming  At the moment I wrote this post the game is nearly founded and the projection cone on kicktraq suggests that we should get at least new area and traits/talents, henchments reachable too.

@RpgCodex @gog 1834$ to have the honour of being the ones that clenched the @kickstarter for @larianstudios What better publicity is there?
Not sure if this is doable at all (and whether DU opts for KS itself or a PayPal donation in the end), but since Larian obviously intend to enshrine whomever takes them over the KS goal forever, maybe DarkUnderlord could wait until the current value of our fundraiser covers the gap to 400K, then put in a preliminary pledge so that the Codex reaps the eternal glory?

Awesome. I hope they get a big boost towards the end with people realizing how foolish they've been not to pledge their life savings to this project.
