You can follow the dialogue in the log - it's entered live while it is happening. That's what we are doing, and while not ideal it works well enough as long as your coop partner informs you if an important dialogue is happening.

Pressing 'L' and following it in the dialogue tab is an extremely suboptimal solution and again: doesn't solve the issue of dual dialogues in the case of the two of you being apart.

The "inform other party that important shit is happening" is what we're doing now, but it feels very awkward and you have to sort of constantly ask yourself "does this dialogue seem to be going towards a choice?", because if it does, and you don't inform your partner in time, it'll be too late.

Well, of course it's suboptimal, that's what I said. But it's also currently the best option, it certainly beats trying to follow on-screen popups or the log.

That it does. Think we're going to put the game away altogether until it's better implemented. This is like that polish thing Roguey was talking about, honestly. Which is a shame because from what I've seen, everything else seems to be in perfect working order. I honestly didn't expect Larian to make something this genuinely interesting.

If you have the willpower to shelve the game over something so relatively minor then more power to you. I don't think you'll have to wait long, it seems to be one of the more commonly voiced remaining complaints, and they had the voice repetition thing fixed within 3 days.

something so relatively minor

Potentially missing out on the majority of co-op dialogue content if we don't have one player sitting on his ass doing nothing the vast majority of the play time in towns is not "something relatively minor" for us.

I don't think you'll have to wait long

If that is true, I'm a happy camper.

Again, the most important thing is not the minor annoyance of pressing L. The most pressing issue is the need for magical walkie talkies or something similar so you don't miss the majority of co-op content unless you follow in each others footsteps.

My co-op partner and I play it like it's a pen and paper game. We'll both run around town talking to people, trying to find interesting stuff. If one of us finds it, we just say so, and the other pyramids over. If it's just basic stuff, like a quest giver, we give the gist of it when we meet back up in town. I honestly don't see any problem with it unless you are someone that doesn't like to communicate with your partner.

Thanks guys. That is preeeeetty dumb if you ask me. I like everything about the game so far, but standing around waiting for my partner or him waiting for me to finish conversations is pretty stupid. They might as well just bring up the dialogue window whenever you're within reach.

I also think we missed a couple of dual dialogues already from being too far from each other :(
You clearly don't like your friend all that much (or he doesn't like you) if you're running ahead of him all the time.

Your solution is to get new friends. Also, I just saved you spending money on therapy.

There's a thread about it if you want to see the reasoning.

Jesus, is Grunker complaining about co-op in every thread?

Only the other one until shit started getting cut up.

Yeah, so far the dialogue system mechanically is the weakest aspect of our co-op too. The floating text vanishes too soon from the NPC, and from the player character, well, it's just as well as if it wouldn't be there at all. The log is okay, but with tons of NPCs telling about CHEESE HALIBUT TOMAAAAYTOS, it can easily get lost. I guess a separate log option for player-initiated dialogue would solve this - or fixing floating text timers to have texts disappear when the player hits next option ONLY.

However, what you can do while your partner is talking, is steal everything you see. Enter stealth, steal shit. Ask your partner to make sure they start the dialogue in such position that would keep the NPC's back turned towards everything potentially valuable.

It's just a thing to patch, I'm sure Larian will fix it soon enough :)

Inb4 metro complains about me posting about this:

There are two issues here. One is what you say. I'm sure that will get fixed. However the other is the range of dual dialogue and multiplayer choice. I'm not so sure about that. That's the issue we debate in the linked thread.

The issue of not getting dual-dialogue is rarely an issue for me and my friend, but I guess it depends on your playstyle. I mean, why would you not be together most of the time, especially when outside of town? If you get into a fight, yes, they can pyramid over, but your positioning is going to be shit. And as far dialogue in town, generally you know when you're going to talk to someone so they just pyramid over beforehand.

However, the issue of only seeing dialogue in the log is bloody irritating and needs to be fixed quick smart.

No. The issue here is if DOS is or will be profitable enough to warrant a sequel, if not an entire resurgence of similar games (see thread title, please).

So, to go back to the real issue, DOS is still #1 on Steam. What's up with that? Isn't this weird? Can DOS become the Skryim of non-retarded people?

EDIT: Partially retarded people. Non retarded people are like unicorns in the sky....

Skyrim sold millions in a day- D:OS, well, i don't know, but i will be happy if it sells 500K in its first month.

OTOH, it sold something like 140K copies in the first two days (assuming that EA only got like 20K copies out), and it's now been 3 times that. There is hope that they already sold something like 300-400K copies. I like being optimist.

I think a lot of those 140-160K copies were also counting early access purchases. I wonder if Swen is going to post an update to the sales count. 500K for a game like this would be pretty awesome however.

You can do that solo, too. Split up party, have one dude start conversation then switch to the other dude. Play crpgs the way God intended: alone and under two feet from your monitor.

I'm fine like I am now, thanks!
