I kind of like the goofy voice acting in D:OS. However, I remain a fan of partially voiced dialogs in such RPGs, just like in Baldur's Gate, for example. I would love if games like this would have options like:
[ ] fully voiced dialogs
[ ] partially voiced dialogs
[ ] no voice

you have 3 sliders: dialogue voices, narrator and a third one which I think are NPC voices. so yeah, don’t like the voice acting, turn it off.

Yeah it's alright, probably just a lot of antagonistic reactions due to the popularity of the thing. Wouldn't be so harsh otherwise, maybe. It's not all that great though. I finished it back then, picking it up again it feels very tedious. It really comes down to how quick you can take down that armor and apply status effects. Very much a quantitative dynamic which strips away the multiple qualitative effects of abilities. The itemisation reinforces that issue. Somehow the fights feel without tension, just like the writing and atmosphere in general (which I somehow remember to be sharper in the alpha back then, but maybe it's just my memory). I imagine you could artificially inject some tension by playing the iron man mode, but then it mostly seems to come down to choosing the correct path of encounters in order to increase your numbers to handle ulterior encounters. If you don't have the numbers it doesn't matter if you play well, you just won't get through the armor.

I've said elsewhere that I've come to really enjoy DOS2, and actually progress it (about half way through now), with Divinity Unleashed and a bunch of other mods (e.g. the Odinblade ones), and the voice acting has actually become quite a big feature of it for me. The thing about the voice acting in DOS2 that I didn't realize on my previous abortive starts, because I didn't get far enough in, is that it's all top notch British regional character acting - it's got Scottish, Irish, Yorkshire, London, etc., etc., and all the voice actors do a great job putting the dialogue into authentic regional accents. To give probably the most well-known example, the dwarf lady in Driftwood market doing the rounds talking to the stall owners, her classic (and eventually incredibly annoying :) ) line, "Smells worse over here than a dozen raw eggs dropped in a vat of vinegar" is very authentic "Scottish fishwife." Either the actress is Scottish herself or she's just a very, very good actress.

On the one hand, in the context of the Great Replacement, etc., etc., yadda yadda (the stuff that belongs in the politics sub-forum) it kind of annoys me, but it's just so well done in the game that I can forgive it. And the narrator's voice is excellent too.

To the point that, unusually for voice-acted RPGs, I find myself actually listening through to all the little conversations.

I wonder how they did it? It sounds like they put out adverts to all the drama colleges in the UK and got a bunch of cheap actors who are students to do it, but for that very reason, they put their heart and soul into it, in a way you don't often find in games.

Does the plot get any better after Act 2? I liked the story in and around Fort Joy but after that it took the path of the special snowflake chosen one too fast for my taste.

there is plenty of fun to be had in a2, but fort joy is the high point.
My main problem of a2 is that it drags. If you ar esort of a person to clear every encounter, prepare to spend 75% of your play through time in there

I suppose developers keep trying because it does add an element of variety to the quest types.

They're less annoying if you can directly control the escortee ofc, they're at their worst when you have to rely on the game's AI to move the escortee.

I guess its admirable thing to keep trying if you really think about it.

I got around to giving this a try once again. Have to admit that the difference between Tactician and Classic is staggering. In tactician I remember struggling in each fight while in Fort Joy. There is nothing of the sort while in Classic. If anything I don't feel like I'm in a prison trying to survive. The NPCs are in a prison with me and they are just waiting their turn to get whacked. So far everything has been so easy that it's not a question if I will be able to beat game but when I'll be able to do so. I always think it cool when games tell different stories depending on the difficulty you are playing.

Classic is pretty chill. Very relaxing to play. I'm not really bothering to keep up with the story yet but maybe the further I go the more interested I will become. There have been some very funny moments tho. Not even halfway through the story yet but this certainly feels like a game that has a lot to offer for casual and not so casual players.

Yeah, I get what you mean now. I've been bouncing around Reaper's Cost for a few hours now and it's definitely not as buttery as Fort Joy. Might be 'cause my party is lacking in spells and exp. Next few hours I'll be looking for fights I can win.

Both the combat and the story really opened up. And even though I'm trying to blast through everything, the game still manages to slow me down so that I can enjoy it better. Great voice acting, lot's of witty and funny dialogue.

So far not as bad as an experience as I was expecting. It feels like you need a lot of meta information if you want to beat Tactican tho. Like planning which encounters to take first so that you can be the right level for the next part of the Act etc.

Alright, here's what I figured out so far. Not sure if it's best, but stacking the same dmg type for your entire party should be very strong. Moving/teleporting spells are among the strongest. Adrenaline and everything that gives you AP is OP. I need to check a list with all of the spells to see what's the strongest but I'm trying to avoid meta knowledge so far.

What did people think of the combat in Divinity? I think it's one of the better ones when it comes to TB, but there is still one issue. It's still fucking turn based combat. It's fun and boring at the same time. The best parts are when the battle gets out of control, mobs are getting pulled, fire is spread everywhere and it's a battlefield filled with chaos. Thing is when that happens you usually end up losing and have to redo the fight. Which is 30min+ down the drain. Very mixed feelings about this.

The lore is starting to amp up. I didn't think I'd like the cannibal elf's yet here we are. Crazy amounts of content. Easily over 300hrs packed into the game. If companies do start charging a dollar per the hour for their games. like Rockstar suggest, I'm afraid I'll have to start robbing banks to feed my gaming addiction.
