I enjoyed what I played of Kingmaker, but I admit I let it lapse once I started playing Realms of Antiquity. I will get back to KM eventually. I wouldn't say it has to be a binary choice; someone can enjoy KM and DE even though they are very different games.

Pathfinder gets so much hate, because it treats itself seriously while touching SJW themes (or at least such is the image that emerges from posts of those who write about it), while Disco laughs at everything. In fact how the "Homosexual Underground" is described is one of my favourites due to how deftly it's written. The mockery there is on point.

Also trying equate between Disco's and Pathfinder's writing? You certainly must be the part of the Great Communist Conspiracy to like Disco over Pathfinder! It's the only logical explanation!

I fired up the game just to listen to the Hjelmdallerman books again. I unironically enjoy the way they are told, even the mispronounciation of "Zweihander" hits right. I think back on the OG Conan the Barbarian, the music starts playing in my head and I get a rush out of it.

I'm a few hours into this. Early impressions are that yeah it's a little pretention, but the writing backs it up. It's also hilarious, definitely funniest game I've played since Star Control 2. Really absorbing and pretty game. So far no SJW preaching oddly enough unless you count the word faggot being censored.

The part that made me pause the longest was when you're investigating the footprints around the corpse, and one of your intenal thoughts is that it's hard to tell male and female footprints apart. Nope -- in the real world, men and women have different skeletal systems and different gaits and leave different patterns of footprints.

The absolute final straw from me is when the game gives you the option to push back against the hotel guy for locking his dumpster. Because in the True Commutard Utopia, the dumpsters will all be unlocked so the homeless can eat from them and sleep in them.

Fuck this game.

This is set in a failed communist regime, so you can't really remove it. It also makes sense that a bunch of characters would still be in the grips of the ideology and nostalgic about it. See current year.

Still, it is true that the game affords more sympathy to lefty NPCs. But the ideology is also presented in a negative light. After all, everything the leftists did failed and was subverted, and they're still tools to this day.

The facist characters are some of the most interesting. While it did suck that becoming a nationalist gives you negative morale when speaking up, and it does seem biased against them, it makes sense as you are going against the grain. And it leads to interesting gameplay. Only people with a strong mind can become facists in this day and age. So you'd be pushed to build up your Volition and your ability to Conceptualize the world. You'd be led towards art and style (Actual Art Degree heals Morale when Conceptualizing), and that makes sense: see Hitler, the left can't meme, the chad vs normie meme, and our very own Lyric Suite.

Utimately, keeping your morale up only cost you material resources to keep your magnesium levels steady. And you're not a marxist, are you? Mind trumps matter.

The game will shit you on on matter what you do. Everything is supposed to be a caricature there, not an accurate representation (although the description of communists and the communism are very on point, despite the caricature, which says something about the whole thing, I guess).

I've just started playing this, a very fun and funny game. Runs great on Steam Deck!
I really like that Cuno character! Wish more games would have writing on that level.
