My principles remained the same since i've been made a mod: only intervene on blatant NSFW stuff not spoilered or in a non-NSFW marked thread and avoid duplicates as much as possible. Do this in some sort-of-humorous way (like LUndb's merging request) when possible. Also, be lazy.

You opened a thread that had already been opened. Irregardless of the fact that you knew it or not, my policy has always been to keep the oldest one. I only merge when there's something of value to merge. Read the "replies" to your thread. Not merging that stuff.

Moderating GD is a truly thankless job.

Despite whatever sterling reputation you had previously earned, once you are made a mod, everyone instantly despises and targets you. Friends become enemies. Enemies become stalkers. You can't seem to do anything right, and no matter how much you try to please everyone, everything you touch instead turns to shit.

You lose sleep. You break out into cold sweats sometimes. Thoughts of suicide frequently enter the equation.

But, I do not regret my time of service as Sheriff. Hardened became my soul from it. Steeled my will was. I bore the brunt of the barrage and came out of it intact, if not more wisened due to the experience. There are things that I learned, arcane things, that would eventually aid me in my long-term endeavors. What really happened to Phelot, for example. What type of underwear Crooked Bee wears. Those kind of things.

I know that star still sits there provocatively on DU's desk. It hasn't been picked up by someone else, for there was only ever one Sheriff. As I stand in the corner, eyeing it casually on occasion, do I think about walking over and picking it up again?

Of course browsing GD at work is dumb, but at least we can try to either give advance warning by changing the board description and make it official, thereby negating complaints, or we can respond to reports better. Personally, I would lost GD as a whole as NSFW, that way it's official at least and would require no extra work.

Yeah. My opinion is already pr much already known, I figure spoilering is fast and easy, and if efficiency is an issue, we can always throw more people at GD. I know for a fact Grunker and I have very little to do in Politics, and I'm sure the same is true for plenty of other subforums (for instance I dunno who mods the Gazebo, but I doubt many problems are caused there), so adding someone from one of them to lessen the GD workload isn't exactly impractical.

Obviously GD won't be completely safe all the time, but that's no reason to declare it blanket-NSFW. After all, one could just as easily say "If you merrily browse the Codex at work and expect everything to go smoothly, maybe you didn't understand the Codex", and we're not labeling the entire site NSFW.
