Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster (it's actually a remake in the REngine)

What is it with some of these remakes aging up characters?. If there is a DLC costume that makes Frank look more like he did originally, why not just make that the default?. Isn't that the whole point?. Frank's look in Dead Rising 2 was bad for the same reasons.

Well, it would seem the point in this remake is to make him look more like he did in the beta version of the game. Capcom did this recently with the Resident Evil 4 remake too, where Leon is wearing the jacket he has in the previous Hook Man version of the game as opposed to the jacket he has in the original release version of RE4. Remake Leon might actually be completely dressed like the Leon in the Hook Man version of RE4.

It also seems like they want it to look like Frank West 18 years later... although the joke of this is lost when you don’t bring back the original voice actor.

Despite being curious since I first saw footage of it, I've never played any game in the series
So I bought the original during this last steam sale

It's pretty fun!

There have been some anoyances:
  • the bosses have been a hit or miss (in terms of gameplay, the scenarios itself are pretty fun);
  • time should switch to the IRL speed during boss fights, the safehouse and while talking to survivors in need of rescue (I am still in the morning of the 20th day, had a frustating situation after picking up the medicine for Brad from the Pharmacy where I have a black couple in wonderland plaza in need of saving - the problem was that to begin their quest you have to exhaust their dialogue, but that shit takes 1 minute to complete, meaning I would run out of time for the "Medicine Run" mission);
  • don't like the fact that the warehouse is the only way into the mall, I think there should've be alternate routes;
  • for some reason after the 2nd day, the security room has no more food. So if you come with low HP from a mission you'll have to go back there just to get food - I think a better system would've been better if the save couch on the security room restored all your HP and gave Frank a 1 hour buff but at the cost of 1 hour of time (because he rested), while the washroom save didn't skip 1 hour but also didn't restore HP nor buff you
Still, it's overall a pretty tigh game

The reputation I have of the series is that the 1st one is the best and everyting from then on has been progressively downhill
If that is truly the case, it doesn't surprise me. As so far my impression is Dead Rising seems like one of those rare games where it's main gameplay concept was executed almost perfectly from the get go
In such cases whatever improvements are there to be had will mostly be minor

But in reality it's the contrary, each sequel is an improvement. More zombies, more enemy diversity, bigger maps, more weapons, more vehicles, better AI, multiplayer, etc. The first game really feels like a beta version.

Might be true for DR1->DR2->DR2:OFT. But let's not forget that DR3 and DR4 exist.

The food thing isn’t a problem, you’ll just get better at getting to the food if you need it. I’d even recommend not doing the Case File stuff when you first play the game...or at least stop once the gate is opened. Your save date carries over into new games, so if your having trouble with bosses or survivor missions just run around killing zombies and exploring the mall to see were all the good items are so you can level up and do everything your next playthrough.

Losing the food items is so you have to make a choice of spending the time to go out of your way to pick some up (you’ll find chips around, but the main spots are: the juice bar, the food court, and the grocery store) or just do the things with a timer on them. At a certain point you’ll have everything down enough to know how to hit all the spots you want before going into boss fights or moving a bunch of survivors around.

Oh, survivors don’t use ammunition when they have guns. So give them the guns with the least amount of ammo. If you’re picking up guns for them, you can get the gun down to one bullet before handing it off to them.

DR1 is the perfect zombie game because it understands that zombies really aren't that interesting as an enemy type for a video game. The real challenge is the time limit, and trying to complete as much as you can within the time limit. The zombies are basically just an obstacle that slows you down and makes mistakes more punishing.

You can get really autistic with time management and planning optimal routes to do as much as you can within a certain period, or you can play the game more casually and just enjoy all the fun and inventive ways you can kill zombies. There's a lot of player agency there. The sequels really toned down the time limit and made survivors a lot more tanky which imo makes them a bit too easy and boring, but some people prefer them (especially 2) so they're still worth playing.

Really?
Let me get this straight. So, for example, in my first run, I can choose to do like 20% of missions (case files, survivors, bosses, etc.) and on NG+ that 20% will already be done and now I can only do the remaining 80%?

No, the missions all start over with new games. But how much you’ve leveled Frank up will carry over into the new game, so you’ll be stronger, faster, have more health, and have some moves you didn’t have before in the next game when you’re taking on bosses and trying to save survivors.

You aren’t meant to be able to do everything the first time you play the game. If you’re just starting, I say don’t really worry about trying to save all the survivors, and don’t even really worry about doing the case files...at least up to when the gate in the mall gets lifted so you can get around the mall easier. Maybe do the survivors missions up to when they tell you about the vents that let you get around the mall faster too, since it’s an early one.

But at the beginning, just run around killing zombies and taking pictures to build up Frank’s XP. You’ll be better equipped to play the mission aspect of the game after you’ve leveled Frank up some. When you’re playing, and you miss a Case and the game ask if you want to start over or just keep playing, just keep playing and see how far you can get and how much you can level up, then when you die and start over you’ll be stronger than you were when you started your first game.

Yep. The nontraditional save system leaves a lot of people confused but in some ways DR1 can be considered a "roguelite". Don't reload a save when something goes wrong. Restart, but with all your upgrades. Fail forward. It's so good.

Pretty much, the bolded part. Also it was the most unique and interesting exclusive on X360 for a long time. Only game I was tempted to get the system for. I had a lot of fun with 2, but it's a more lax iteration of the concept, not as intense, but maybe more polished and user friendly overall.

Any new story content?

I hope it does well to get the franchise going again. But if no new content, what's the point for people that played the original? The last PC release is all we ever needed in terms of remastering.

Ah yes, the "Deluxe Definitive version of the game Remaster" that removes features and content that existed in previous versions of the game, a game industry classic.

The upcoming remaster of Dead Rising will no longer have the ‘Erotica’ photo feature.
Makes me wonder what will happen to the entire character of Cheryl. The confident young woman in a spaghetti strap cocktail dress and fishnets - in the original, she is so body positive that she asks Frank to photograph her, to preserve her attractiveness, which she is proud of, in case something happens to her. I'm betting this whole side mission is gone. Maybe Cheryl will be an ashamed Muslim in a burqa now.

That’s a fucking stupid mistake to make.

Wonder if that means the nose bleed that happens when you take Erotica photos is gone too. Like does the game still register that as a trigger, and they’re going to kept it in and just not give you points for it anymore, or will that be gone too.

Funnily I saw a ResetEra threat about this, everyone in that thread seemed pretty help. Everyone in that thread is a fucking moron, they seemingly can’t wrap their head around why some sleazy photojournalist would take pictures that could be considered erotic.

I know you haven't been paying attention but, it's over man. Just move on. We got one good game and then Crapcom did everything in its power to fecal blast the series into oblivion. I mean look at this page. Even if they bring Dead Rising back this isn't Frank West it's his goodie two-shoes discount brother. This is going to be the worst version of Dead Rising and normalfags will eat it up censorship and all.

Went to go see the retard spectacle of shills defending the removal of content in the Steam discussions and saw that Crapcom has changed the Vietnam vet with PTSD psycho fight to remove references about the Vietcong/communists. He instead just calls Frank a "mole" and a "filthy animal". Bravo.

They added yellow paint for retards in the remake.
Absolutely pathetic. I can't take it anymore! Fucking game designer circle-jerks with peanut for brains.
And fuck garbage "game journalists" for validating this shit!
And fuck consumers for lapping all this shit up like sluts.

Apparently all Vietcong lines have been cut in the Cliff fight.

Also, there is some nasty clipping going on when you're forcing your way through the zombie hordes now. Looks horrendous.
