I think that if you don't know anything about 'file systems' or 'alphas' you should avoid it. This is for only for men. If you're not into Arma then you are a gamer, and that's fine.

Alright, so I'm considering getting Operation Arrowhead so I can check out DayZ, but if I'm going to spend the money, I want to try to get some use out of OA itself. Can someone tell me if it's decent? Are there structured missions a la vanilla Arma2 BEFORE warfare, and does it descend into that warfare bullshit half way through? I quit at warfare in the base game because it turned a nice tactical shooter-sim into a fucking first person RTS and killed any interest I had in completing it.

I never got past like the third mission in OA where you escort a convoy.
Thanks for the tip about the tents Creamy. I don't know how people with that much loot thought it wise to make their camp right next to Berezino. Oh well, their loss is my sweet, sweet gain.

So, started playing Dayz.
My first 4 respawns were practically me running around like a headless chicken and dying all the time. Expected that all houses can be entered but no :[
Then I decided to go in to forests hoping that I'll find a tent and will get a weapon or something. They should give you some melee weapon for starters but whatever.
What I found was 10 tents, full of nice stuff. I took AK, makarov, ammo, a tent, blood bags and some other stuff. As I was stealing it I suddely heard some russian speaking in voice comms but he wasn't talking about me. After filling all my slots I ran to safer grounds.

Supermarkets can spawn tents, pretty much one of the few places that tents can spawn IIRC.
http://dayzdb.com/map is a handy map to check on spawn locations, seeing as you are at Prigorodky, you could try to go into Cherno or Elektro and risk getting your head blown off, of you could hike to a smaller township and attempt a scavenge there. And when I say hike, I do mean a hike

If you strike NW you can try Zelenegorsk, Pushto and Vybor, North has Stary Sobor (expect death), NE leads you to Polana then Berenzino for 2 and northwards to Kras. You could try for a tent in Cherno/Elektro, its just that on the server I play on, two of the crew that I hang with were sniping noobs in elektro for lulz.
The other night I went looking for my pushbike that I lost thanks to a server reset (server I play on doesnt announce timed server resets, just resets every 6 hours, really fucking annoying if you didnt get out and save your vehicle recently, means you ahve to leg it from where you were at time of crash to where it was last saved) anyway, looking for my bike in the woods for an hour or two, finally decide to give up as ive ran out of water when I decide to head to the nearest town to try and snag a soda, see something in the trees thats a little too solid for a shrub. Found a motherfucking hatchback 400m from the road. Jump in and check it, all green with fuel and a jerry in the boot, off I go. Taking it back to base camp I run along some shitty dirt road (car is slow as crap on dirt) as I get near the highway I see the Military ural in front of me, get on the road and hammer it to base thinking of picking up both of them (I know, massively retarded choice to keep on the shitty hatchback instead of upgrade right away, decision making at 1am isnt the best) anyway as im banging down the road about 1k from where the ural was server decides to reset...
kinda pissed at that I quickly realise that im really close to that motherfucking ural, nobody but me and the owner know where that hatchback is stashed, and I can now get both. So as soon as its up I hump back down to the ural, hop in and its passable, engine is a bit red but everything else works so off I go cross country. Manage to get it safely back to base and check its gear. Shit tier AKM's makarovs and shotguns, take out its wheels with my silenced M9 as it trundles down the hill originally parked next to our civilian ural it ends up a distance away now. Then I go fetch the hatchback. Last count of vehicles is 4 ATV's, 2 Off Road Trucks, 1 Gaz for speedy highway travel, 1 Hatchback, 1 Civilian ural and 1 Military ural for storage. Never found my bike but my bro went and got his pushy from where he crashed it last. So many vehicles is a liability but its also so very damned handy for getting around and storing shit.

I usually find tents in civilian places like houses, supermarkets & pubs. They have a low spawn chance. Or you can just get VOTS to dupe for you.
I managed to steal another PBX and sailed around Cheranrus.
1: It is very fast.
2: Very fuel efficient, 1 jerry can is enough to bring me from Berezino to Kamenka. You can refuel on the coast, as long as you are not afraid of stowaways.
3: Temperature drops slowly when you are on a boat. Might want to bring a heatpack for long trips/rain.
At first I stayed out of sight of the coast but went close to Elek and Cherno. No one tried to shoot me. It is tempting to hop off the boat and loot buildings near the shore.
Found a boat beside a tent with jerry cans at Skalisty island. Must be an escape route for server hoppers.

You need tents, arrange a meet up with me between 18:00 - 00:00 UTC. Or just give me a location and I'll pitch one and drop extras in it when I get to it. I've pitched tents full of nothing but tents in several servers, in preparation for the eventual fix for duping.
But if I'm not around and you are desperate, the fastest way to spawn a tent is loot clean a supermarket or an office building and I mean to loot completely. Pick everything up and dump them in a handy nearby spot for convenience. Then leave the place, take a tour around and come back in a couple minutes. Supermarket and the office building because they have the highest number of loot spots. Vybor and Elektro are especially good for this as both have a supermarket and an office building facing each other. New stuff will be spawned while you're looting the other one. You will get your tent at most in your third run through either building. It's also a good way to get an ALICE fast.
And another hint: bring wood and set up a camp fire in the building but don't light it up. You can dump stuff in camp fires and all the extra stuff you dump in one will be wiped after the 8th item. This is good to prevent slow downs due to too much loot on the ground.
The game should have notepads with an attached pen. It would be fun to leave notes around, especially in tents or vehicles people have tried to hide. Or for a bait: "If you're reading this, look up to NW" <BAM!>

Driving east to Lopatino and got shot, saw shooter in Ghillie less than 25 meters away, clung onto the ATV for dear life as I fled west. Recording starts. Started bandaging at 400 blood, bleeding stops at 200.
You can drive an ATV unconscious and with broken bones. I keep clipping into the vehicle blocking my vision and crashed twice, but then I was fleeing in panic.
It was an emotional experience.
A video of me shooting cars will be more interesting but here is me not shooting someone in a car I was stalking.

LoL I got an awesome kill yesterday, right before got killed.
Anyways some fucker pinned me down in cherno and we ware both on the opposite ends of a one story building. He had a M4 and I had DMR so I was at a huge disadvantage. I knew the fucker was waiting on the other side of the building so he would unleash 30 rounds of full auto M4 hell on me. While thinking what to do I remembered I had a 2 Frag grenades so I threw that shit over the building. It didn't kill him but it sure as hell summoned half of the fucking zombies in Cherno. I lied down and waited while the dude was shooting his M4 in panic as the zombies rushed on his location. After two mags of M4 I decided it was time to throw the second frag grenade to summon another horde of zombies. It worked and in the end he got eaten by a bunch of zombies. I waited a few minutes and then moved in on his body with my G17. The dude had an M14 in his backpack and since I was using DMR which uses the same mags as M14 I exchanged it for M14.
After 10 minutes I killed one dude who shot at me but it turns out he had a friend who flanked me and I got shot in the face with a shotgun.

Fucking Creative, I've had enough with their shitty drivers and lack of support. Next time, I'm getting one of those new other players like Asus or whatever else is out there. Fucking shit.
