Just spend money on better hardware. I got a 770 for under $300 almost three years ago now and it'll probably last another year or so as far as mid/high end requirements go.

The enemies in Archdragon Keep are fucking insane. There's one mob in particular toward the end....toughest challenge in the entire game

I tried running at max everything and 1920*1200 and there was some noticeable difference but the game was still almost playable. The lowest settings are a bit more playable but there's obviously something fucked. The first boss keeps killing me, lol. Fuck this, I'll continue trying to find something tomorrow.

I got DS3 and it runs like total fucking shit on everything low 13xx*768 resolution. Something's fucked up with the game, the FPS must be below 20. How the shit can I run TW3 on medium-high settings and this piece of shit doesn't work? I'll try looking for some fixes.

that is absolutely normal

first off TW3 looks good but its art design doesn't require unique high poly models all over the place.
DS3 on other hand goes absolutely bonkers on geometry everywhere.
So to play it you actually need strong GPU that can eat all those high poly models AND strong CPU to feed GPU properly.

I have 7970 and i5-3470 and i need to set it back to 1600x900 to lock it down to 50fps where i still have sometimes dips in framerate.

This game plays like a combo based hack n slash.

I'm OK with that though, since I thought Bloodborne was nice. I think if you're a minmaxing turbofag that uses boring weapons and plays for pvp, this game won't appeal to you.

I like how this is the only souls game where bows are actually useful beyond abusing aggro.

Yeah i am running with Longbow and finally bows are usable as they output proper damage.
And i love changed to combat punishing care bears.

Also i like how people said DS3 will be backstab fest as DS1 where i play it and i try to push for backstabs and most of monsters either you can't circle or they have a lot of nasty moves that can punish you trying to circle them.

The game's good fun, I dig the scenery a lot, but at this point I almost feel like saying 'if you've played one, you've played them all'. Will still have some more good fun with the game, nonetheless.

noticing significant frame rate drops (from 60 to 40) in outdoor areas, especially the undead settlement. I think it's the trees. Turning AA off helps dramatically, but there's no excuse for performance this bad.

I gave WAB a thumbs down.

Why? He is obviously exaggerating but he has a point. The basic game is no fun. Now, this is somewhat remedied by the online component (summons and shit) ... but the game is boring.

I'm not saying this because I want to be edgy ... I'm saying it because I'm myself surprised by the realization that the game is "brutally" boring. And most of my disappointment comes from the combat.

Below is a list of the big offenders (imho):

1) The character feels floaty. It no longer has weight. FromSW have done a spectacular job in hiding this but it's real. The character doesn't feel grounded and it hurts immersion.

2) The mobs have like infinite stamina. This was abused before in the series (some bosses) but not to such a degree (basically all mobs and bosses).

Most mobs have this pattern: they do a combo of an unrealistic number of moves and then they have a short pause after which they start combo-ing again with full stamina.

The problem is that the pause in DaS3 is too short to be credible (it's a simple pause instead of a proper stamina recovery simulation).

I mean even the most pathetic mob from DaS2 had a time of stamina recovery. Once he combo-ed then you could count on the fact that he will not hit for the next couple of seconds. It was fair. It was consistent (with a few exceptions).

This doesn't apply anymore. There is one boss which is doing 6 or 7 swipes in a row and. There is no way to avoid being hit if you don't have stamina for so many rolls. Guess what!? Your actual skill is meaningless, you have to level up.

3) All mobs can stunlock you on hit. And yes, I mean all (I could be wrong but I'm using my own experience). But many enemies cannot be stunlocked even when you hit them for 50% of their health.

The situation is so absurd that is funny: while wearing medium armor even the smallest rat in DaS3 can stunlock you. I'm the Champion, destroyed of several bosses and the even one rat can put me in difficulty.

* Also how the fuck all rats know how to stop right at the edge of my sword!?

4) The mobs are doing an unreasonable amount of damage. It's basically off the chart. Also they move unreasonably fast.

The bosses in DaS3 are shit compared to the regular mobs. Two small thiefs can basically rape you in seconds. And there are countless other examples of unreasonable opponents.

5) Thanks to all the things above the player agency in DaS3 is reduced to a minimum. You can forget tactics and you can forget your skills: you will be rolling for the 90% percent of the fight. If you are lucky then you'll be able to hit your opponent while he is in his lunch break. If not then "get gud".

Each fight in DaS is a different shade of an clusterfuck. The main problem is that that the player and the mobs are playing by different rules.

Now, this bullshit is continuous and relentless. In each fight you will be reminded that the game is not fair with you. That the rules are retarded and that they were made by an edgy game designer. Again and again. Ad nauseam.

And that's why the game is boring.

I don't understand why WAB even bothered reviewing DS3. It's his third Souls game review, and he still refuses to use a controller, and his entire review is still just complaining about the game not designed around the mouse and keyboard.

Someone who reviews games after playing them for 2-3 hours at most should not receive so much attention. His video is full of lies and bullshit, just like his other "masterpieces" he calls reviews.

I want a new King's Field.
What would that look like? The Souls series is the natural progression of King's Field. Unless you want some retro real-time pseudo-blobber. The technology didn't allow for much in the way of a unique aesthetic.
I wouldn't say it's a progression as much as a different take on similar themes. King's Field has a much more contemplative, melancholic pace and allows for puzzles in its design. And King's Field level design was top notch, KF4 had some truly amazing levels and the Souls games haven't really come close to that. I would disagree about the aesthetic comment too, KF4 has a really cohesive aesthetic and visual design as a whole.

This game seems to have an annoying tendency of splitting every bossfight into two phases, where the first one poses absolutely no danger, while the second is relentlessly aggressive and punishes mistakes very harshly. Would be nice to have a bit of middle ground, is what I'm saying. Overall, not too impressed with bosses thus far, a lot of gimmickry that looks cool but isn't that fun to play against. I'll give them props for managing to finally repurpose Pinwheel into something vaguely challenging.

That aside, I liked the Cathedral a lot, really cool level design, with a single bonfire serving like 4 different shortcut paths, and some pretty fun enemies. Only downside was the rather boring boss.

Finished it. Some thoughts:

-if this isn't your first souls game the base game will be a piece of enjoyable cake
-boss fights look great, backed up by awesome music, but most will fall fairly easily, no boss took me more than 2 tries/no summons
-level design is good, though the levels themselves are mostly linear
-fun factor: the twinswords are my fav weapon of all the Souls games, enemies get more ferocious as you near the end
-difficulty: mobs are harder than most bosses; movement feels much looseer than DS2 but I wouldn't call it floaty
-Izalith is once again not as cool as I had hoped it would be

first time, just barely bested him
495CD15888385D3301E233A37BB2CABC908FFFD0

only the base ending was available to me since I didn't pick up a particular item
8597310DB0FCB76930B7EA9080342B165EA495B9

So I missed all of the sidequests since they're vague as fuck. tempted to replay now or wait for performance patch.

magic user or strength? HMMMMMM
