that's because you're a filthy casual who can't read (let alone comprehend). i am on record saying that DaS2 vanilla is not good. but the much improved mechanics were undeniable, and only a butthurt irrational mentally-challenged fanboy like you would even try to say otherwise. everything, from movement speed to backstab mechanics, from weapon movesets to parry/riposte was at least one order of magnitude better in DaS2 than DaS1, and now DaS3 is closer to that piece of garbage (mechanically, when compared to the other games in the series) that was DeS than the infinitely superior DaS2.

but you probably need the superfast and far, cheap rolls to beat the game 'cause you're a casual scrub. you need the ability to stunlock with ease because you suck at the game. you need instant estus chugs because you'd cry yourself to sleep if you had to actually think when to heal... that's the nature of men idiots

Yeah few mechanics got upgrade or changed but what drove game aka level design, monster design felt completely on its face and you usually ended up in flat place fighting shitty mobs. Especially in SotfS which was basically Vanilla made 2 times worse.

The combat feels kind of...jittery? I don't know. Feels like it's all about getting the jump on enemies, where if you hit them once, you stunlock them to death. But if you don't hit them first, they have all sorts of weird attack patterns designed to punish you for letting them attack - the mutants being a prime example of this, there's just no way to read their movements on the fly.

actually i like that. What i noticed is that even simple first mobs have different attacks. Couple that with their behavior and they punish care bears who wait for opportunity while shielding from strikes.

First strike matters a lot more here but comes at the price of not playing care bear and could cost life.

I don't see it dramatically different from DS2, enemies are a bit faster and they have a wider range of moves but they still telegraph their attacks and you can learn them pretty quickly, except for the black mutant parasites or whatever it is that sometimes sprout from enemies. Those are absolutely brutal and I still haven't found a way to fight them reasonably safely, excluding the finite firebombs.

People say you have to kill them fast so they don't sprout but I can't seem to pull that off. I tried it couple of times with the one on the Lothric roof but no matter how fast I sprint it always bursts out a fraction of second before I reach it.

Been playing it for about 3 hours now, beaten Iudex a Vordt. So far I'd definitely say combat is much quicker than in Dark Souls, but not as quick and arcade-ey as Bloodborne was. First thing I noticed when I made my knight character was that he was able to roll at medium speed straight out the gate with no modifications to vigor, as opposed to earlier games where you'd be resigned to fatrolling while wearing heavier armor unless you boosted the related stats. It feels good so far, but it does kind of remove the 'heft' behind all of your movements and actions and makes it feel a bit more twitchy. Enemies and bosses in particular don't seem to drop as much loot and souls anymore either, which is an interesting move, though I don't know if this'll change further down the line.

Art design is certainly impressive so far, definitely blows Dark Souls 2 out of the water for me in that regard, though I don't think it's quite as atmospheric as Bloodborne and Demon's Souls.

As for performance issues, I've ran into none so far, been maintaining a steady 60 fps throughout. I understand a lot of people have, but honestly that's the gamble that comes with buying games on day one.

I totally lucked out on one, managed to kill it with the end of my swipe while trying to kill a crossbowman, didn't even realize he was supposed to transform until I saw the puffs of purple smoke coming off the corpse. Haven't been able to re-do it intentionally, either, though I did legitimately fight and kill it to get the item drop, because they won't drop any if you kill them before they transform.

Kinda agree with praetor , mechanically wise and minute to minute gameplay wise DS2 felt a lot better to me and DS3 seems like a downgrade compared to it. There is a reason I spent almost 800 hours in SOTFS pvp and barely any time in DS1. But its too early to tell. That stupid backstab from Ds1 is in though..

Fanservice is also ridicolous to cringeworthy in 3. Feels like I met the entire cast of 1 already.

I also dislike that enemies spam attacks in your direction. I dont know, combat feels more random to me.

I like that i play for at least 2 hours and i saw like 10+ different enemies. And 3 of those "normal" mobs mop floor with me and each of them had very wide moveset. Hell that knight even had back strike with shield to punish dudes trying to circle him.
reminds me a lot of Deamon's where those red eye knights where "fuck you, you aren't as good as you think moment" when exploring.

Also like people already said this. Enemies do have treshold for stun but on counter side of things enemies now do a lot more damage, can stunlock you rather easily and they have rather quick movesets that quickly can punish wrong move.
Died like 5-6 times already just tring to kill mobs. And none of those were "suprise" like in case of that mutant guy.

First few bosses are really easy, but I've died quite a few times to random mobs and mini-bosses. Having a blast so far (7 hours).

Browsing metacritic PS 4 scores all positive with 9.2 score PC people giving 0 because of crashes, k+m controls and xbox prompts :M

Turning down the lighting to low fixed the crashes for me.

Had like 15 crashes before that, mostly in Firelink Shrine.

Like I said last night, everything feels kind of loose and weightless. I got used to it after like 3 hours of playing, but it doesn't really feel like a proper Souls game. A mix between Souls and Bloodborne at best.

so PS4 or PC? PC master race is complaining about crashes

The PS4 version is locked to 30 FPS.. It's not even a choice.

Game doesn't run that great on my computer, gtx660 and something something. Turning down the settings, I still got dropped from online occasionally. Will try a resolution lower than 1920x1080 tonight and see what that does.

Didn't have much time to play last night. Started as a thief and played until a little after Firelink, so no real impressions yet. Game still looks good even at low settings. Or rather not like ass.

Runs like ass on my 7870 unless I set most graphics settings to low. I've had it for like four years so I guess that's no big surprise. I have ordered a new card now but I was trying to hold out until nVidia's Pascal cards were out.

Now i am in undead village and framerate tanks to something like 40-50fps...

but damn this game looks amazing. What i find most awesome is lost art of actually using polygons. Everything is moddeled and not in form of some lousy shader or wonky tesselation.

If i could lock it at 30fps then i would play just 2500x1500:

What the fuck? Every time I start up the game its resets the nvidia settings for the game and forces multisampling and AA override settings I have as default

I just tried forcing "double v sync" with RadeonPro and fps stays at 30. If it works on nvidia card then should work on radeon too (would be pretty hilarious if it didn't), unless you have a monitor with higher than 60 refresh.
There's also a "dynamic framerate control" setting but it seemed to cause screen tearing when I tried.

Rivatuner Statistic centre which comes with MSI afterburner or you can install it from site.
just set framerate cap at 30 fps.
If you game stutters a lot or you don't play at locked framerate always consider locking it down to 30fps.

does this game open up eventually? so far its been p linear, even though the areas are p big, it's one after the other.

I also noticed that for now game seems a bit linear.

Though like you said there are MANY other parts of maps that are completely optional or just different way to goal.

Only so far i found differnt is that key you can buy. I assume this is like Crest of artoriast and that tower will have some !FUN! in it.

the game DOES open up once you get to the Road of Sacrifices (think Bloodborne's Vicar Amelia church where you could go 2 different ways after.

Turn lighting down to low if you're getting lots of crashes. I was crashing right at first bonfire every time and that fixed it for me.

Cowboy Moment is right. The combat feels a bit odd. I'll see if I get use to it, but seems better to be more aggressive against trash mobs. I took out the first Red Knight easy because I attacked him first and was aggressive, but second time I fought him I waited to counter and he fucked me up. It feels like they made mobs slightly faster and have better combos which is great, but it also feels like they slowed down the response for when you attack by a half a second or something. This makes it easy for trash mobs to counter attack and hit you but I don't like the delay. Of course I've only used the battle axe so far.

I'm playing a Warrior. Just wish I could attack slightly faster. Maybe I should have went with Knight for long sword.

One negative I have to say about the game is that the bosses are way too easy. I already defeated half the lords of cinder, and there hasn't been any bosses I died more than 5 times to.

Bought it for PC, I like it a lot so far. I got to the fat bitch in Undead Settlement before calling it a night.

++ The art direction is great, the scope of the vistas is jaw-dropping
++ The levels are more labyrinthine and therefore more fun to explore
++ Enemy attack patterns seem fair, no bullshit tracking here (the possessed dudes are garbage, though)
++ Greater emphasis on rolling, might change if greatshields enter the picture
+ Protagonist now drinks Estus at a rate befitting someone whose life depends on it
+ No consumable healing items
+ Spells now work off of mana rather than uses
+ Weapon arts are cute

= Combat is really fast and snowbally, you either wreck or get wrecked
= Stunlocking is very powerful so far
= Parrying is fucking impossible unless you really practice (like Uchigatana bro has)

- - You hardly get to see a boss's second form because they're almost dead by the time it triggers
- - A lot of the weapons so far seem useless. The damage to speed ratio greatly favors medium weapons
- - Inputs are still buffered for too long
- So far you're railroaded from one level to the next, I hope it opens up later
- You're forced to warp from a bonfire to progress
- Still have to warp back to the Maiden firekeeper to level up in the current year
- Framerate drops every time the game autosaves
- "Rescued" NPCs magically teleport away instead of just moving when you're gone
- Worst intro CGI in a Souls game

PS: DS2 is shit and so are its fans.

I found out few weird things about DS3 refresh system:

- first i play on my TV and it supports 50hz refresh rate (which is awesome if you can't hit quite 60fps). When game runs in FULLSCREEN mode game doesn't actually use VSYNC. It uses some internal framerate check and autoassumes that you are playing game at 60fps. So with my 50hz mode game produced judder.
- To actually fix it you need to run game in borderless mode which forces true VSYNC with TRIPLEBUFFERING on game thus i can play in 50hz mode which is close to 60fps to be ultra smooth but way past 30fps which compared to 50hz mode is not so smooth.

:lol: So why am I parrying mostly succesfully? Seems very similar to DS1 parrying, which I like for PVE at least.
