The game is good.

It's in the wrong subforum though.

It's a fun action flick with some spell/skill unlocks thrown into the mix. RPG it is not.

So don't get the wrong idea here.

You can say it's somewhat in the same vein as Blade of Darkness.

Steve gets a Kidney but I don't even get a tag.
I imported it from the UK and it did not require steam activation as far as I remember. Just a CD key I think, and optional steam activation that was required for the multiplayer. Singleplayer worked perfectly fine without Steam, however.

It's a long time since I've played it but I'm very sure that Steam activation was not required to play the game.

Dark Messiah is a perfect example of combat should be like, and how dialogues should not be like. The game has non-linear GAMEPLAY with multiple ways to solve a mission. It has immersive combat in which if you make a mistake you die (on nightmare level) in well designed levels. It has ridiculous AI where Orcs, Goblins voluntarily can be made to Jump into fires. It has horrible bias towards the player who can't be killed by being impaled on the spikes, which themselves are idiotically omnipresent. Nor are you kicked off cliffs BTW. it has nice traps/situational advantages like swinging loads to kill enemies (with stupid AI sadly).

But still it is one of my favorite most games. When I am the king, I will order a remake of this game with extended storyline, better AI and physics, actual RPGesque classes with possible multiclassing, more environmental hazards and effects ( slipping on oil, slipping on water, freezing water in which the enemy is standing to halt his advance etc), better spell combos, actual RP dialogue and choices with consequences (there are a precious few of these in the game) and better graphics (whore).

Am I the only one who found the Charm spell too powerful? Not only is it a great way of making your enemies kill each other, but it's a great way of buying yourself more time when the enemies close in.

Exactly the kind of shit I always dream about doing for Bloodlines.

Some games GET it right. They just need a good push to get their level increased to Divine from Great. Humorously they are mostly commercial failures.

What do you think of Blade of Darkness, Skyway? I am curious to hear your opinion.

I've played it 10 years ago I think, but what I remember is that it was quite good PC slasher game with multiple characters having their own ways of playing (and their own campaigns), probably will play it again some time when I will feel like it.

I can't believe how many of you actually LIKED this game.

Sure the combat was fun but everything else was absolutely terrible.
Story, characters, voice acting, music, and the level design.

^From what I read in this topic, most liked it for the combat. If the game is good in one aspect, I can forgive other aspects being shit - I don't play my Bombermans for the story ,sound or the graphics, for example.

That'd be all well and good if the segments where you have to babysit that bitch weren't so long and tedious.

Yes because we play our fucking action games to watch retards talking for 20 minutes with some epic super twisted plot

And what's with the bitching about levels? They provided for a varied gameplay instead of your typical corridor where you just press forward

It's nowhere near Deus Ex and I honestly can't see anyone even beginning to make that comparsion but it's a good game nevertheless. I honestly don't even remember the characters to be as cringeworthy as people describe them, I guess I simply enjoyed the game and ignored the rest.

Funnily enough the best RP element that worked for me was Sareth's silence on many of Xana's
post-resurrection
quotes. I always interpreted it as Sareth biding his time till he found a way of getting rid of the
demon taint within him and somehow foiling his father's plot.
.

Lawful Good, that's me.

I know a million other people took your bait, but I will too ;)

The story, characters, voice acting, etc don't really get in the way of the relatively entertaining combat. The levels are pretty nice, actually.

Again, I encourage all that liked this game to give Blade of Darkness a try since it arguably did things WAY better, is more of a challenge, and has a lot more tactics to it. Think of a traditional fighting game like Samurai Showdown, except from a 3rd person, 3D perspective.

It's not just the combat though. Everything regarding the actual 'controlling your character' part is done well. Movement, jumping, kicking, slashing, etc. They've got that part nailed perfectly, and it's spiced with great physics and good sound effects. Pretty sure I'd even end up liking Oblivion if you'd replaced it with this part from DM.

One thing that hasn't really been mentioned is the level design. Its fairly standard fantasy RPG fare. See: mines, caves, caves on mountains, dungeons, secret societies within dungeons, cities, ruined cities. While other games would pussy out and you could totally expect 90% of that to be the same shit with just a different skin, DMoM&M did a great job of making these locations feel special and unique from one another.

Kick is ridiculously overpowered though. If you want to compare it to Deus Ex, its having the dragon sword and a shield that blocks enemy attacks while your enemies are armed with a stun baton.
