The art and sprites look nice enough.

Does anyone care to translate what all this means? Looks like an alignment meter in there and a fair amount of skills. I see a scroll bar for the skills, which means there's a lot which means I now have a boner.

inquisitor-24-max.jpg

Left column looks like a list of spells:

Healing touch
Protection from lightning
Mirror of pain
God's mercy
Holly soil
Transsubstation (no idea what it's supposed to mean)
Resurrection

Details of selected spell appear in the right column. In this case it's the mirror of pain:

Mirror of pain
Celestial magic
Level of mastery: enlighted (not the best translation but can't think of any more appropriate English word)
Mana: 35
Invocation: 2 s (e.g. it takes 2 seconds to cast the spell)
Rest: 7s (most likely cooldown period)
Can't think of an appropriate English word for this, it basically means the ability to bypass protection: 100 %

The spell causes reflection of a part of the damage back to the attacker.

Any living being can be targeted by this spell.

Higher mastery of the spell increases the damage that is reflected back to the attacker

In the story of the Jehrom and Thumiel described in the Holly Scripture a divine intervention takes place aiding the pious Jehrom at the very moment when he faces death in the hands of his pagan brother Thumiel. Thanks to the God's will the mortal wound was reflected from Jehrom to Thumiel and completely killed him(Thumiel).
----
The status bar at the bottom of the screen says Penalty -1 to dexterity.

I tried to translate everything literally, hence the poor quality of the writing, it's not that bad in Czech.

That screen looks straight out of Sacred 1. I do remember seeing screens about this game and being interested in its premise alone about 4 years back on rpgdot.com. Prolly give it a whirl if it gets decent reviews, but i think 50 dollars might be asking a bit much.

50 dollars? The game costs 666 Kč for people in Czech (something around 36 dollars) and people who pre-order the game in english downloadable version pay 29 dollars.

29.99 after the 20 knocked off, sure, but if I don't want to pre order (and I don't) and may entertain the notion of buying it after release, that leaves me at 49.99.

Well you could try the Czech demo if they release one since the game is coming in a boxed version in a couple of days in Czech, or if no demo gets released you could download the Czech version off the interwebs to try it out and see if you like it. Or you could even check the Czech reviews when the game is released in a couple of days in Czech.

The pre-order for the 29 dollars DRM-free downlodable english version is up to the 31st December, so you still got some time left.

Pretty sure playing a game in a language I don't understand, especially an RPG, is not at all a good way to test out whether or not I'd like it.

Just saying.

Based on that trailer the game looks A LOT like Sacred 1, but if it can deliver on remotely interesting quests/dialog/interactivity (Divine Divinity you say?) then I'm willing to try it out.

Strappado? Perhaps one of the more warped Codexians could enlighten us as to what this is? A Spanish Daddy using his belt perhaps?

A few months late, but a strappado is when you tie someone's hands behind their back, then winch them upwards towards the ceiling, forcing the person to bend forwards.

As a form of torture, the inquisition used to lift people off the floor from that position and leave them 'till their arms were wrenched completely out of their shoulder sockets due to the person's body weight. If they weren't heavy enough, weights could be tied to their feet, or a sharp pull on their lower body could get the job done if all esle failed.

Christianity is an extremely civilized religion after all and the truly riteous had to show the heathen witches, satanists and other assorted devil worshippers what hell would be like if they didn't repent. It was only merciful to be honest, better to suffer for a finite period of time in this lifetime than have their soul suffer torments throughout eternity.

Hi there,

some info about the game (from my point of view):

- combat system is quite similar to one in Diablo
- the rest is completely different, the game emphasize dialogs, solving quests, many of which are about investigation of heresis
- there are TONS of text, but it is somehow pleasure to read it... I can judge only the original czech version, but the language... it's really excellent (no game (I have met) had this brilliant language so far) - it depends how it will be transalted
- I found few logic flaws.. (or the game haven't explained them yet)
- statistics of your character influence mainly your combat skills, and thats basically all (much like in diablo)
- that means, unfortunately, that intelligence do not influence dialogs etc..
- gameplay is quite straightforward (of course you can choose which quest you'll complete first), as I can tell
- there are 3 playable classes - paladin, rogue, priest with unique class skills (and those each class share)
- the story is quite good

- graphics is strictly 2D, like in diablo, animations are quite dull, bad. But you can get used to it.

How much of the combat is there? I can stand crappy combat if the game delivers with story, writing and dialogues, but if it has too much tedious filler combat I'm not gonna bother.
