I kept on playing, despite my lack of skillz. It turns out I'm getting close to the end.

And I was pretty right to do so. After doing the Ashtray Maze sequence I will never say anything bad about that game again. It lasted, what 10 minutes ? But those were absolutely incredible. Even my 5 y.o son said he wanted to play the game after that :D

I... actually did it.

I completed the game. It seemed so far above my gaming level these days that I had been pestering on forums about game difficulty and the impossibility to adjust it. But I went there, it's done. It's incredibly shallow, but I feel oddly proud of myself for this non-achievement.
Got it on PS NOW, so no access to DLCs, but looking forward to the inevitable sequel.

How's Quantum Break ?

Played this for all of 5 mins, because there's no way to disable the obnoxious motion blur. Into the fucking trash it goes.

Isn't PS NOW streaming? Were you playing it with input lag?

FWIW: I played Destiny 2 for a bit on Stadia after they had the free thing to see what the input lag was like and I didn't even notice it. Probably not something that people who are used to playing twitchy games would tolerate, but it was perfectly acceptable for a normal user.

Could be that I'm just near a datacenter, didn't bother doing a trace to check.

Destiny 2 is an online shooter, it's designed around input lag. Control is meant to be a twitchy 3rd-person shooter from what I've seen. I was watching a Digital Foundry comparison of offline input lag in RDR2 vs. Control and it seemed very reliant on responsiveness.

PS NOW input lag isn't what it's made up to be.
Yes it's there, but it's easy to forget about it.

Proof's in the pudding. I suck at action games, and I finished Control with a gamepad.

Guessing you're playing a day one pirated version because they patched a motion blur toggle into the game like right after it came out. Also even before that it was a quick .ini or hex edit.

Most people on Codex don't play games. He probably just watched a Youtube video.

I finished The Foundation DLC. It's bad.
It's the same gameplay but in a big ugly cave (no brutalism design) and no interesting/fun characters like Darling, Trench, Ahti or Langston appear in person or video.

If I were a console gamer I'd be more irritated by that tweet than anything, since it implies it won't get a free upgrade like a lot of other games.

The console peasant's arsehole is so stretched out at this point that stuff like that doesn't even touch the sides.

Been playing this a little bit. Currently have launch, evade, shield, and level 3 clearance. The atmosphere is interesting, but the core gameplay seems pretty shallow. Having played some other "supernatural abilities action games" like the Prototype series, inFamous series, God of War, DMC clones, etc. it just doesn't compare. I think it's lack of variety of actions to take, as well as small enemy variety that's bringing it down. Maybe I've just been spoiled, but this game just isn't doing it for me.

As a Metroidvania it also leaves a lot to be desired. Here I've definitely been spoiled. So far the only "area unlock" items I've received have been security access cards, which is the blandest way possible to unlock new areas. Also, you can't move the map around at all, and it doesn't highlight unexplored areas or show locked doors on the map. This is Metroidvania 101 stuff.

It's really weird how so many hacks reviewers praised the "crazy good and unique" combat when it's nothing that special and is actually pretty limited considering what's really effective. Also it gets super repetitive and boring because of constantly respawning enemies.

As for the "Metroid" aspect, I think flying opens a lot of hidden caches and stuff but those aren't that exciting to get. The DLC actually does a lot better at giving you new powers that feel like they open new areas.

Codex is pretty autistic so I am not shocked it tries to analyse the gameplay value of a game whose strongest asset lies elsewhere.

Strongest asset of a game isn't its gameplay.

This speaks for itself.
