Last time I did 10 STR brsk was combat beta. Want to try 10 STR 4 INT 6 PER crit basher build rn to see how high can you push the max damage.
Why not 6 Int (so you can tag Evasion and Armor, or another skill) and base Per? With Warrior + Eye Implants; you'll get enough accuracy, more so if you do all combats as solo, that's more melee skill experience.
Not enough stats. I need 10 STR 10 DEX 6 PER (to overclock it to 8 and grab crit perk), need 6 CON to for DEX, STR and PER implants. No stats left for INT. Only can tag crit. First feat - is educated to fix horrible XP and get tag for blunt. Since I will use a companion (Jed most likely) I think I can manage without evasion and armor. It will be ultimate glass cannon. I guess it is challenge run in a way, probably won't be pleasant.

You only fight grunts while during stealth you assassinate grunts + raid the treasury + kill the big boss, later giving better loot makes sense, former giving zilch is bad.
How about XP then? For me it is the most precious resource on solo MM. I get enough loot and cash for myself but could always use a level up. Anyway I don't think even on MM you can allow yourself to spread your build too thin. Have to focus on something, combat or stealth. Not enough tags to cover everything. And in end game your lack of focus will close end game doors.

How much does the crit perk from perception gives versus Critical Thinker?
Dunno. I need both. Plan is educated. Then crit thinker, then basher/second wind. Then heavy hitter. On 8 PER I need precise strike. Damage part complete. Then I will have to work out the order between utility skills that improve performance and save AP. With INT that low I probably can't have it all. Charger, Slow meta, fast draw, second wind. Zero defense, all offense, best defense is offense type of thing, kill people faster with nasty damage and boosted AP pool. Also plan to rely on Jed body shielding and invis gadget.

Overclocking will give you another stat point from implants.
Where, how?
Haven’t followed this game at all. Is it vastly different than AoD (which I really didn’t like), or sort of an AoD+?
Depends on why you didn't like AoD! The combat is more focused on ranged attacks and you have a party instead of a single character. It's also more fine to play hybrid characters (there's not really enough non combat feats to build a non combat character).

But it's still an ITS game which means a lot of combat challenges are going to be very very hard unless you 100% spec into combat with your entire party, and every single person you meet is going to be an asshole that you should betray at the first opportunity (lest they betray you first). I guess the game is also a bit more open since there's no guilds to join (yet).

EDIT: perhaps most importantly, the game is now level from use for skills rather than gaining skill points, so there's less metagaming in building your character.

Well that's my point, much harder to do a proper run than in AoD.

Augh, I don't know. I used a build with that feat and felt very underwhelmed by it. If you tag CS then pick Critical Thinker you'll have more than enough, I think.
Not if you are that frail. I really think that 6 CON + no evasion/armor tags makes you very squishy. So if you ditch both you need to delete people. Could also help with occasional tough bastard, which halves your crit damage.

In any case I am not sure. Point of that built was to push damage to the max. Esp. with some end game melee weapons and 12 STR. Want to see how it performs. Then I would have a more informed opinion.

Wait, I did try a build with that feat:
G5cycmS.jpg
It had Critical Thinker, Precise Strike, and Heavy Hitter. Only had 6 in CS so I didn't really farm it as much as I could have. Hmm. Still not sure about Precise Strike though.

Party based nature and learn by using system change a lot but otherwise - quite similiar feeling all around. Also less story branching, more tacticool depth. Advanced stealth and negotiation systems.

If anything, it's rather the opposite. In AoD you could hold onto your skill points and decide how to distribute them somewhat later. Here you don't have even that option and if someone had PTSD over the fact he's missing content because he's invested 1 less stat point at the start - he will complain about it here even more. Mentally healthy people can play freely as they please because that's what learn by using system is for… But we'll see first how many of them this game will attract to begin with.

How?

Missing something here is much worse than in AoD, and the penalty is also steeper - in AoD you could use SP from combat path to shore up diplomatic path, here you don't have that luxury. So if you are behind the curve you'll stay behind it with no option but to reload.

In Aod, I would frequently bank skill points "for later", leading to metagaming in that regard. In colony ship you're more likely to try and metagame your quest ordering, as missed opportunities to use a skill are permanent xp losses (although most quests take place in the "open world", which means you can often return, but not everything is like this). I'm not sure you can avoid metagaming in a challenging game like this though, or even that it is desirable. It's more important that the metagaming is fun.

Well for starters tagging a skill gives an immediate boost of two level ups. Starting with 3, or 4, in a skill basically means you're already ahead of the curve in terms of early game. Start doing a bunch of the skill checks and you'll eventually reach a point where you don't even need to stress over it. There's also skill tokens too.

There are lvl 6 checks in Act one, even with tagged skills if you pick wrong choice branches you can get locked out.

Unfortunately, it's true. If you keep shooting people in the face, you won't be able to become good at talking. Not sure how to fix it, maybe add a Skyrim difficulty mode?

Was AoD using this Skyrim difficulty mode?

you might as well considering you already adapted the skyrim leveling system

Oh my god. Sorry. I'm allergic to retarded takes. Think of a better statement. Then try again.

What else increases skill gain?

Only choice seems to be whether to take skill monkey on the guy using the skill.
