Since Codex GotY is limited to RPGs games identifying as RPGs, this thread belongs in the general RPG forum.

I went through all Codex GOTY votes + the cRPG book for cataloguing RPGs and the amount of cuts I had to make was ridiculous. I'm someone with a relatively liberal view on what constitutes an RPG (50%+ of the game has RPG mechanics = RPG) and yet I have to cut half of the lists. It's even more disappointing for something called the cRPG book to add things that just don't belong no matter how you try to twist it.

I doubt you'd consider 150+ entries in the crpg book as non-rpgs. Sure there are some blatant examples of such, but those are quite a minor fraction. Without an explicit list, it's empty words, or just a newfag trying to blend in.

Up to the early 2000s it's solid. But after that, especially after ~2005, it gets iffy. I read every entry and added all of them to the List of RPGs thread. 150+ is a stretch (my ~50%+ comment was exaggeration and mostly in relation to the Codex GOTY), but there's still a sizable minority that shouldn't have made it in and I'm not sure why (other than padding stats). There was one that even bordered on Loli. I'm willing to go through and make a list if anyone here is actually willing to discuss this instead of attacking a join date. It shouldn't take long, I just need to go through the games I skipped over making an entry for.

Codex GOTY lists are a different story altogether that would take way too long to list out.
