How is this surprising? They're targeting multiple platforms at release and have typical corporate product/project managers involved at some stage, who will block any effort that is more than the minimum viable product they need to ship. PC-specific UI improvements from their perspective are an additional cost and timeline delay. And this is before you consider how badly T2 is in need of cash before GTA6 comes around, which lead to further corner cutting to rush the product out of the door and make Zelnick (Take Two CEO) or whats-his-name happy that he has good news to give to shareholders for a change.
This is the firth time in a row this has happened, only people who don't play Civ would be surprised.

So how are you enjoying the game thus far, whydoibother?
I've been playing on and off all day, and the first impression is "eurojank". Some bad craftmanship, some bad balance, but overal you get the idea and its fun.

Not that I doubt the crappiness of this game but the decline and competence crisis must be terminal if you can put jank and Civ together.
civ4 doomstack combat was good.

Launching with half the numbers of civ 6 is not a good start. Also, it is amazing how early acess fucked them up. Of the 12k reviews on steam, 10k were from early access.
Console numbers are probably even lower since the damn thing can't even run for half a hour without crashing.

It feels like a very good, very detailed total overhaul mod. Like a soulful, amateurish labour of love, done by semi-profesionals.
Except for the DLC and skins stuff, of course. That feels very pro.

And I am not even defending the game much, you are just contrasting my posts with the posts of people who haven't played this game, don't play the series, don't play the genre, maybe don't even play video games any more, but reall, really passionately hate having tits ands skirts in the office, therefore game bad.
The majority of comments and ratings in this thread are strictly informed by the american kulturkampf, and obviously uninformed by playing the game that's faux being discussed.

Wonder if it comes with the dog spinning civ ability.
Knowing what westoids know about us, it will come with something to do with writing/library, and something to do with horse archers.
Though you could have a historically based combat bonus near mountains or some such, that's easy to justify and mechanically interesting.
Also, I think I've posted about this before on this forum, but the south-east region has a few villages founded by persians many centuries ago. That's where the fire walking, dog spinning, and all the cultural weirdness rituals are from. Its literally 3-5 villages in one mountain in one corner.
And while the fire walking has been embraced and promoted by our cultural ministry as a cool Bulgarian custom, the dog spinning didn't make the cut. Bad PR. So that remains bizzare persian voodoo.
