This was mentioned right? Germans play with AI generated VO from gothic original voice actors. A word is wierd here and there but it's pretty nice overall.

It's actually very a very clever hidden quest outcome. It makes sense why hurrying up and not wasting time doing whatever chores you come across would increase your chances of finding him alive. I'm not sure if it also takes into account the amount of days that pass. That is, I'm pretty sure that the script only triggers if the players has done a certain number of side quests and it doesn't track the actual in game days. It's still an awesome feature. I wonder how many players actually found out about it.
The way it works is that from a certain point going forward (your brother's disappearance) you are supposed to do literally just the strict minimum of mandatory main quests necessary to get there.

For the record, the game doesn't treat it like a "sensible or ideal way to play". It's literally just a non-canon easter egg ending. Not only you have to skip basically everything to get there in time, but the game ends with the "joke happy ending" immediately after that.

  • (GER) Aus dem Leben eines Diebes
Even if these don't necessarily reach Archolos' level of quality, they're still quite enjoyable.

Dirty Swamp has an annoying protagonist who suffers from "I MUST NARRATE EVERYTHING" syndrome. Seriously, he never shuts the fuck up. To make things worse, he also breaks the fourth wall a lot during the early parts of the game.

I agree, but it's kinda 'not a bug, but a feature' of this mod. The creators sadly wanted to make something leaning more towards the satire. The writing isn't the worst, but the humor can be jarring or off-putting if you don't mesh with it. It's still a relatively good compact Gothic mod, compared to all the plethora of others that exist out-there.

I know there should be one somewhere because i found some for 2h and 1h swords.

Unfortunately all Gothic mods are either tiny in scope, low quality/divergent from what made the original good or so old and janky they put the original to shame. Or all three.

Shame about History of Khorinis being cancelled, but nobody expected anything different. I loved the idea of expanding the mythology of the world, that whole War of the Gods thing, demons, conjuncting spheres and how magic works. Fantastic idea for a prequel.

In any case there's Sailors of the Storm being worked on which shows lots of promise. Since there's only two people working on it (iirc) it might take a while though.

I remember how I was trying to play Returning 2.0 - this mod destroyed my faith in Gothic mods, so I was really critical about Archolos at first. But for me this is one of the best RPGs in the last few years.

None of the Gothic TC mods i've played or seen are anywhere near Archolos in quality. You may as well give up if you want something like this.

The Returding 2.0 is an autistic rebalance and hodge podge of garbage, ugly looking armor and decline. I would never touch that pos.
Diccuric was fun 2 decades ago, but it's very dated mod for G1 engine and ends with a set up for sequel... that never happened of course.
I remember playing some mod about a guy from Khorinis who joined the pirates and another mod about an orc warrior named Bumshak (?). They were ok 20 years ago.
My friend told me about The Dark Saga mod, it actually seemed very interesting in premise, it's about you and your friend ending up as slaves in orcish mines. You have to earn the respect of orcs to become a mercenary and have some degree of freedom. But the mod is very tryhard in difficulty with really shitty voice acting. It's also in russian only.
There is large mod Legend of Asshun or something. Heard it's not that good.
Then there is this Shitty Swamp mod. Looks like it's also not that good.
A mod called Odysee. Never played it, probably not very good.

And over 9000 autistic balance mods nobody cares about.

I remember how a long time ago I bought disc with the first Gothic game, and it also contained a huge mod called Diccuric. I was excited at first, but it was absolutely boring, with tons of huge empty places and NPCs without any line of dialogue.

Would be cool if someone finished Gothic Sequel. The one Piranha scrapped before implementing some of the story elements into Gothic 2. It takes place in the ore valley after the events of G1.

Heard the unfinished version was leaked few years ago.

Yeah, that one is utterly atrocious, I really don't know what was going on in the creator's head. Literal five-year-old's idea of cool being jamming literally everything ever into their deranged hodge-podge of a mod.

Never played that one, G1 mods are infamously even more janky than G2 mods.

Piratenleben was the name of the pirate mod. Main character was called Rhys, I think. He was a pretty cool MC. I remember enjoying that one as a kid. Bumshak was a real cool idea too, starting as a scout and rising through the orc ranks.

I was immediately put off by an unexplained mechanics in the mines and generally idiotic quest design. From what I heard it only gets worse from there.

Yeah, it's bad. Massive backtracking in stupid quests and nonsensical, long dialogues about the most boring crap. There really seemed to be some good ideas during the production of this one, but they failed to bring them to fruition. Main quest had this cool idea of MC losing documents proving he's a diplomat and going on a constantly escalating quest to prove his identity, but it is still littered with awful dialogues, lore dumps, backtracking and all that.

its a mod manager for G1-G3 that has a big library of mods that you can download from within the app. Easier than to google mods + to google if there's an english version, with the manager you can see directly if there's a English version/translation.

I will say i have not used any of these extensively, been busy modding the game... so maybe they're buggy or whatever, but unlikely.

So. How the fuck do I use the open lock scroll? I went to controls and saw that default inventory key is tab. I press it, it shows me right away that the open lock scroll correspond to 4 for some reason. I press 4, and it gets selected but then nothing. I've no idea what am I suppose to press afterwards.

Go find a chest you want to open. Press 4 to activate the spell. Target the chest and hold down the left mouse button and the "move forward" (the default is W) buttons. The spell will start to work. After some time it opens (usually 1-4 seconds, depends on the difficulty of the lock), so you can release the buttons.
About this "correspond to 4 for some reason"... it' quite simple. In Gothic games you can assign spells to keyboard keys from 4 to 0. If you don't have any spell assigned to the button 4 and choose the spell in your inventory, it becomes automatically assigned to 4. If something is already assigned to this button, it becomes assigned to 5, etc.
