The simple fact that bonus stat points are counted differently makes Archolos much easier than Gothic 2 NotR, where you should ignore all stats bonuses until the end of the game.
This is bullshit.

NotR stat bonuses system is obviously defective – but it is not a great problem for me. Its shortcomings can be exploited in a “munchkin” way but it is completely unnecessary. I have never understood people who save all bonuses until the end of the game.

Gothic games are typically more difficult in the beginning and in the middle of the game. Last 20% of each game are always easy, at this time you are always super strong. I see no reason to be even more over-powered.

In NotR I personally prefer to spend some stat bonuses in early stages. Typically I develop my chosen stats (weapon proficiency, strength/dexterity) to 30 by experience points and later I’m starting to use tablets, perma potions etc. I save some of the bonuses for later chapters, but only some. At the end of the game I'm strong enough anyway, and the early game is much more fun and much smoother.

So - the system in Archolos IS improved. But it doesn't make that much of a difference - if you play normally and not powergame like an idiot.

We are very pleased with the great wave of interest that you showed after the publication of our video on April Fool's Day. We decided that there is no point in keeping you in suspense any longer and... Now we can officially confirm - all the content you saw in the video will officially go to Chronicles in Mod of the Decade Edition (so far we temporarily call it version 2.0), i.e. the free update of The Chronicles of Myrtana. This version will include an optional hardcore mode, which we have already mentioned many times. The joke was the exclusivity on Switch - at the moment we have no plans for this console or any other port. What about the premiere of this edition? The work is steadily moving forward, but we still don't want to give an official release date until we are 100% sure that we can keep it - we will keep you updated on this matter!

That's more of a Russian thing, the Polish community seems much more focused on story (and completely OBSESSED with voice acting - no mod gets any attention without first and foremost mentioining their plans for the dubbing)

Hopefully it'll be easier for them to port it over to engrish with the new AI tools, which I hope they won't be afraid to use?

Me too, this is "new video game when you were 10" level hype. I haven't even played Archolos yet, so that hype is already there to begin with and to hear they're only expanding it justifies my waiting...

That's more of a Russian thing, the Polish community seems much more focused on story (and completely OBSESSED with voice acting - no mod gets any attention without first and foremost mentioining their plans for the dubbing)
Akshually Potatoes are into hardocre Gothic action too - I still remember trying to play Returning 1.2 in Potato version, which was WAY harder than original.

Yeah there's a bunch of bosses and they're massive HP bloat, with various abilities (including one-shot attacks because of course). There's a lot of content, but mostly fan fictional at best. It's also easy to miss in some (most?) cases if you play without a guide. Hope you're content with missing something (like quests and locations) in 200+h long journey...

If you prefer "quantity" over "quality" then Returning is for you. Last preferable version is iirc Returning 2.0 Alternative Balance.

If you like bosses, Dirty Swamp blows Returning and Archolos both out of the water for diversity, balance, and creative use of the engine and mechanical limitations. And as an added bonus it's only 15-20 hours instead of ten times that.

Tried to play this recently in 4K (Steam version) but it always crashes horribly when I launch it at that resolution. However, when I'm in-game and then change resolution from, say, 1080p to 2160p, it then works fine. But I'm not going to keep doing that annoying workaround when I know it supports 2160p. Assuming it's not a quirk with my rig, if these guys ever fix what breaks this mod from launching in 4K I might come back. So, in the meantime, I'm playing Swordflight 2 for NWN:EE, which looks beautiful in 4K and launches and plays perfectly at that resolution (bless UI scaling) with absolutely no issues.

There's tons of bloat, and new story content is terrible fanfiction of the worst kind. Similarly, all the addad locations are garbage. That said, I enjoyed the difficulty a lot (pumped all the way up to legendary or however it was called). Sneaking past veritable armies of orcs in the forest behind Khorinis to reach a bunch of field raiders that you can actually kill to get some of that sweet, sweet XP was a great experience, and one I generally don't find in RPGs. If you're into this sort of thing, it's definitely worth a spin. Otherwise no, because everything else it offers is rather shitty.

Also, to update people who either can't or simply refuse to interact with the Polish internet (understandable), the "History of Khorinis" mod has been leaked in its very barebones alpha state, revealing that pretty much no work has been done since 2018 or so, and the creator or creators (unclear how many people are actually involved at this point) have taken the leak as an excuse to finally announce that they're dropping it. Pretty much exactly how you'd expect a decades-long fangame project to end - it's a miracle Archolos even happened in the first place, it was a bit greedy of us all to expect a second.
