Watching now. Still disappointed about no attribute points but I am too lazy to cancel my pre-order.

I like a few things, like the cover system and that they kept the old soundtrack (or is it just a placeholder? - they also commissioned a new soundtrack). I wonder if interactive elements are more important now, you could ignore many of them in BG1. The doors and shortcuts could be interesting, but that will greatly depend on the implementation.

Their views on the moral system (no meter, but in-game reactions,no once evil, you have to always pick evil to maximize evil bonuses) is good, I hope they'll implement it properly.

Last night, the game was leaked to torrents before it was even launched, not sure how something like this happens on PC, thought it only happened to console games.

Review copy. Somebody's an asshole.

Daedalic need to be more discerning in the future.

Dumbing-down aside, I hope there's an option now to skip/speed up combat animations or put the game in windowed mode.

Possibly a false flag operation to justify a ban on early reviews.

So how much does it suck?

Since both those reviews say it's better than the first, it's guaranteed to be worse, but by how much?

I suppose it might be better if you consider it as a tactics game (although that would still depend much on the quality of the battles in comparison to the 1st), but much worse when looking at the rpg aspect.
So depending on what's more important to you it's either a failure or maybe indeed an improvement.

Btw. I am just replaying B1 and have played through the first couple of arena missions in chapter 2.
I remember disliking chapter 2 the last time due to its restricted nature, but the first couple of battles are indeed shitty. You fight against higher level enemies that are better equipped with only very few tactical options, making it mostly dependent on the RNG gods whether you succeed or not - but in the worst possible way, leaving hardly any room for bad luck or error.
If the entire game would have been like that I could understand the complaints about the random nature, but luckily it isn't.

You guys should remember that Roxor played only a handful of battles in his beta version before giving up because of crashes. There could be an entire game full of interesting encounter design in there. It's what they promised in our interview.

We'll find out when the game is released...or sooner if somebody volunteers to do a review and takes that Steam key off of our hands. :M

Well, that's what I'm saying, more or less. If they do have interesting encounters it could turn out a nice tactics game with some light RPG elements. But compared to B1, which was more of a tactics-RPG hybrid, the RPG elements are obviously much reduced. Depending on your personal preferences that could make it or break it.

Btw., if I would have more free time right now and more confidence in my writing abilities, I'd happily take the key. But alas...

and another one:
Gamereactor Germany: "Better than Blackguards 1, few but sensible changes, female protagonist, more diversity in locations and enemies, challenging but still lightweight in comparison to classic SRPGs" 9/10, 90%

This intro level is unbearable. I mean, really, really shit. You fight off waves of spiders with a stick and run back and forth to a healing fountain between battles, all in turn based mode. And the graphics somehow feel worse than BG1. And the delayed character creation is really badly done (you find a book about politics that serves as your "trainer" that can teach you anything from dodging to increasing your max hp or throwing fire balls).

Is there a particular reason why you can't choose a ranged weapon or staff as your starting weapon even after you pour all your points into magic or archery?

IGN said:
Blackguards 2 improves on its predecessor in almost every other respect. Daedalic effectively removed the elements that made last year's release annoying at all the wrong moments, and left its players with the best parts of the experience. It's still a methodical, almost plodding tactical roleplaying game, but now it's easier to find the fun and to enjoy its world and characters.
IGN - 7.8

Sounds like :decline:

If you only read the reviews for this game, you'd think the recent RPG incline didn't happen.

It's almost like the first one and this game exist in a vacuum.
