First world problems. You don't want to support CCP by buying the game - just pirate it.

Tried it for a bit.

Actually impressed with how well it runs. I'm not using the highest settings but the game still looks good and runs at over 60 FPS. Only issue is that whenever there is a cutscene, FPS sometimes drops for a moment and when that happens the audio becomes out of sync with the video for the rest of the cutscene, but it's not a big deal. Better the game takes a dump during cutscenes than during gameplay.

As for the gameplay, it's pretty good but nothing groundbreaking. Kinda reminds me of Nioh, but with much less depth. There are 3 stances, but they only change how your heavy attacks works. You can equip enemy abilities, but only one at a time and they take so long to charge up you'll only use it once per battle. I'm guessing there's only 1 weapon because Wukong is known for using a staff.

Hope the combat opens up later. I'm still in early in.

EDIT: as soon as I praise the performance I encounter a FPS killer boss

So if i buy the game, CCP wins. If i don't buy the game, modern gaming audience wins.

I wonder why they blocked off the thrust stance till level 20... Having that would have prevented me from raging earlier about big boys hit boxes.

You know, I have a complaint similar to one I had in lies of p... There is shit in the skill tree that shouldn't be there, but instead be a native ability. The 3 stances and that one skill that allowed you to mix dodge and light attacks is a start.

I see a lot of noise online about this game, but it seems like it's being generated mostly for the clickbait, because it's selling so well that it became worthwile to just generate "content" about it, with or without substance.

But as a game, it looks like a pretty ordinary, casual 3rd person action game. Is it "action game" or "action RPG" actually?

It is an action RPG, you level up, distribute skill points and manage gear for your liking. Got small number of spells but they are all useful and hard to choose from, lots of different "enemy skills" with passive benefits and nice transformations. Hell, you can even play as a summoner, clone monkeys, some ents, little sipders and even a young loong (Chinese dragon)
Armor sets are also nice, even somewhat conditional.
It is a good game that does many little things well, no try hard systems or reinventing the wheel.

It's an action game more similar to Sekiro then Souls. No attributes and one weapon choice.

Watching gameplay of Wukong got me to return to Elden Ring, which people say is the "approachable Souls game". It's funny watching FightinCowboy who has done a great walkthrough of Elden Ring get badly beaten in the opening parts of Wukong, when you know Wukong is clearly the easier game :)

??? Wukong has significantly more character building than anything Fromsoft has ever made, let alone sekiro. Are you just confused because they don't literally call it "strength," "dexterity," etc.?

The character and enemy designs in this are just incredible. As is the environment art. It is always stunning and there's always something new.

Sounds like by buying the game I can simultaneously support communism, brainwashing, genocide, racism and sexism all at once. And get a decent game?

What a deal!
It's finally happening Nutmeg, people are beginning to support communism thanks to a videogame from China. Even your hardest effort didn't pay, but a videogame will finally achieve it.

I watched somewhere that 80% of the player base is Chinese, the rest is split into 8% USA, 5% Europe and "Other" or something in those lines.

It's one tweet by one random guy without clear method to get the number, during the 1st day of sale.

What we can easily filter by way of scrapping is review language which might one of the indicators. Simplified Chinese is in general just used by Mainland Chinese while SEA Chinese usually use Traditional (SG, MY).

That being said that tweet was also posted during afternoon Chinese time, morning EU time, midnight of previous day American time so it's not surprising by that time most review will be in Asia including China. But even now most reviews are still Chinese I assume.

Another parameter people checked after several days are Top Seller rank of all Steam Region. Wukong is Top Seller in basically all major region during its launch week and continuing even this week.

Chinese in general definitely have sort of drive to see the game being good, the game is The Witcher 3 of China. That being said before you "TROLOLOL BUGMEN" westoid argument, Chinese has never shied away of review bombing the shit of bad game made by Chinese dev either. Wukong basically just pass the "this game is mainstream decent/good", hence the enthusiasm as well. If the game is dogshit you will 100% see Chinese shitting on the dev for being embarassment for China

I meant this in the sense that the 10+ million sales are mostly attributed to China. I've never cared about how other big sellers have done in China percentage-wise but the ratio is likely not as skewed towards China as it is with Wukong.

I think this is a moot point. You guys are playing it, you should know if it's good or not Chyna boosting this game shouldn't change anything.

Yeah, game is basically national sensation in China. I've watched some Tiktok/Douyin clips of people even community streaming (as in using projector/screen to play and have people watch together in public space) the game. PS5 is also sold out in lot of stores there as people want to buy it to play the game. If you ask why not PC: 90% of China Gaming industry is either mobile gaming or MMO that can run on potato. Most normies in China probably doesn't have big ass gaming PC.

I think this is a moot point. You guys are playing it, you should know if it's good or not Chyna boosting this game shouldn't change anything about whether the game is good or not.
That's not how some people think about it tho. Lot of bullshit argument that "game is bad, is being bought by CCP to shit on greatness of USA", hence my post.

My point is that it's not much of a global hit if the overwhelming majority of copies are sold in China.

I'm not playing it btw, and because of Denuvo. I'll wait until it's either cracked or at least Denuvo is removed (if ever), but knowing myself by that time I'll have lost interest in playing it. That's the path I went through with Ghost of Tsushima. It was PS exclusive for a couple of years before they put it out for PC
