How does one play some of the greatest RPGs made, then in the same breath say you love tripe like Oblivion. If ever there was a good motivation for shooting mothers who drink while pregnant, it can be no better than adddeed.

Because it isn't tripe and it's fun.

Just some neckbeards like yourself are too irate that Behtesda are millionaires while their favorite studios or dead and gone.

Oblivion is fun for like 10 minutes until you realize everything is level scaled and no matter what dungeon you enter, both enemies and loot will be scaled to your level and it's always the same experience. No thrilling fights against enemies 10 times your level that you either defeat with genius tactics or give up on to return once you're stronger, no finding a legendary artifact after going through a tough dungeon, no mopping the floor with low level enemies that would've been a thread to you 5 hours ago. None of the things that make exploration in an RPG actually fun. No risk, no rewards. Just bland level-scaling that ensures the challenge level always stays the same. No highs, no lows.

The worst effect of this is that whenever you enter a dungeon, you know what to expect. Enemies on your level. Random loot that usually is barely worth it. Find a master-level locked chest? *yawn* it's probably just 5 gold pieces, two lockpicks and a spoon in there. Boooooooooring.

What is fun about a game with such a fundamental design flaw?

^ Easily fixed with one of several available mods.

Nevertheless, some people did not mind the scaling.

Just some neckbeards

some people did not mind the scaling.

Calling those you disagree with neckbeards and claiming some people didn't mind it. Ah, the great arguments, I missed them so much.
You forgot:
- you should force yourself to like new stuff because otherwise you'll only play old stuff and that's not cool only uncool people play old stuff
- new is innovation
- change is always good
- bethesda invented first-person RPGs

I've played all the infinity engine classics, ive played Fallout 1 and 2, i finished Arcanum last year, i finished System Shock 1 a year before, i have Ultima 7 installed, and i played Jagged Alliance 2. I still love Oblivion. It's a great game.

I appreciate the fact that you enjoyed it and had a great time, but stop implying it's a great game, because objectively it's full of design flaws and awful mechanics. Nothing bad about enjoying a bad game - but be aware of the fact that it's terrible.

The funny thing is that for all his BS, he has yet to provide an example of something Bethesda does well. His arguement is "i found Oblivion fun" and that's it.
I'm still waiting for him to say why he likes it so much, what Oblivion does better than the other games he claims to have played etc.

You can wait all you want, you're not gonna get anything from people who's answer to every critique is "some people like it" or "mods can fix it".
I wonder, if everything is "fixable" by other people, what's Bethesda's contribution, but hey, it's not like we'll ever know.

I guess we have different view of what terrible is.

Why i like it:
Its big. Its open. Ton of quests, ton of wepons and spells, ton of baddies to fight. Great music. Its polished. Fighting is fun, sneaking is fun and the exploration is fun. You can role play many different characters and play different styles.

I'm playing the game right now. The only mod i'm using is the level scaling mod and because it was recommended.

So no, the game was not a turd that needed 50 mods to make it good. It was good from the start.

Its big. Its open.
Not indicative of quality
Ton of quests
But shit quests nontheless
ton of wepons and spells
True, without a single one being memorable thanks to level scaling
ton of baddies to fight.
Without a single one being memorable thanks to level scaling and Bethesda atrocious writing.
Great music.
True
Its polished.
Come again?
Fighting is fun, sneaking is fun and the exploration is fun.
If you say so
You can role play LARP many different characters and play different styles.
Fixed. Since the game doesn't acknowledge them it's all in your head. But i give you this point. Bethesda after all is the only company that allows you to roleplay an archmage who doesn't know a single spell.:salute:

Millions of people loved Oblivion. Stop acting like the possibility is unheard of, or that it being shitty is an objective opinion.

And I say that as someone who hates that fucking game with a passion.

Assuming it's not an alt (yeah right), maybe he's just not that hard to please? There's few games I truly despise, can't even think of one right now.

If Oblivion was just just your random AAA production game I wouldn't care one bit that some like it, but after becoming so engrossed in the Elder Scrolls world thanks to Morrowind, then having Bethesda completely shit on their own lore in Oblivion and making a game with atrocious mechanics to boot, and then seeing people support that shit, that's what makes me :x

I seriously cannot think about a single good thing about Oblivion, even the music aside from 2 or 3 themes was meh. It's probably not the worst game ever made, but it certainly is one of the worst games that I've ever played. No other game known to me is so completely deprived of any challenge or sense of accomplishment.
