I just bought Morrowind (again) since it's on sale on Steam. Looking at the most popular mods on Nexus...

The radio content in VTMB is just great, similar to the stations in Vice City.
I like the part when Andrei calls Deb and does his usual Tzimisce Sabbat thing.
Also Gomez (voiced by Leonard Boyarsky) and his "conspiracies", of which the last one is actually very true and results in his termination due to endangering the Masquerade...

The old Better Bodies and Better Heads mods are alright, but you may as well stay vanilla in visuals.

Just install Tamriel Rebuilt and Project Tamriel (Skyirm, Cyrodiil) for excellent new lore-friendly content and ignore everything else.

Like I told you, stick to bug fixes.
Install the Morrowind Code Patch and the Patch for Purists (if you desire a more "traditional" experience that doesn't get rid of certain things from the original game and leaves them as they were).

I played it just like that, as I loathe excessive modding, but holy fuck, those crashes...
Innumerable crashes.
Even with patches on.
Standard Bethesda stuff.

These tasteless ass face replacers for MW have been around since release days. The ones that turn Dunmer into Drow prettyboys have always been especially disgusting.

You should play the game with zero mods, just like God Todd intended
And no patches. For a true vanilla experience, you want to play the version the devs considered gold and that they shipped, right?
I did originally play it during my first playthrough just like that before installing the standard fixes and the patch for purists.
It was a brilliant, but painful experience as well.
Bugthesda just seems to have given up on extensive playtesting entirely and relies on the moddability of their games.
"Yeah, just let those modders fix our shit while the plebs buy our slop."
