Steam told me I'm not allowed to take part in the group's discussion, or any group's, unless I spend $5 on Steam or add $5 to my Steam wallet.

Really? o_o I never heard of that. Weird.

They deleted my thread at Beamdog without warning. Tisk Tisk. View what Google Cahced of it here:

I'll resummarize some points on why Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition is unfit to be called Enhanced.

1. The original designer's desired enhancements are not included in the Enhanced Edition
7. What parts of the game would you go back to rewrite or expand (if any)?
CA - Probably the Buried Village, as we didn’t have time to flesh it out in as much detail as we wanted. Also, we would have loved to include more plane-travelling in general, but we just didn’t have the resources and time.

2. Lack of a Heart of Fury or Legacy of Bhaal-like mode

This was a touted feature that IWD had which was ported over to Siege of Dragonspear and BGEE and BG2EE. This should have made it to PST:EE.

3. Lack of a Story Mode

This was a touted feature of Siege of Dragonspear and pushed to BGEE and BG2EE. This makes it so that one is not inconvenienced by combat in the game. This should have been able to be included with minimal developer cost.

4. Lack of Extra Modes / Scenarios / Bonus Content

BGEE and BG2EE gave us the Black Pits I & II. PSTEE could have given us an epilogue featuring the nameless one
They created new Avernus (Hell) backgrounds for Siege of Dragonspear. They could have modified these to feature a one-off of the Nameless One aiding the Blood War.
It could have also given us scenarios featuring the nameless one and his companions in the past
Play as a past incarnation of the Nameless One. Re-usse maps and save money. Play as Morte before he become a Skull, etc.
There are lots of opportunities to add interesting game content without modifying the base game.

Are you hoping it will one day rival Steam,

:retarded: :retarded:

Jesus Christ, why do this kind of people exist.

And Beamdog must be the only company in existence that said it was worth it bringing something to Linux. But at least they didn't say it was because of the money they made on it.

To be fair, there are worse questions.

... why did Beamdog decide to bring their games like Planescape Torment Enhanced Edition to Linux?
Parasites. Utter parasites. This is a company that shouldn't be allowed to exist, let alone take any credit.

Well, PSTEE is their game now. At least they didn't say "their games like PST".

Not that it makes much difference to the perception of the average reader. In time, PST will be credited to Beamdog.

Melcar and other Linux users might be interested in this interview.

The programmers explain the technical aspects of the PST:EE Linux port in great detail.

It's interesting that the engine is a fully native build - I'd had my suspicions that it just used some Wine libraries in a wrapper like the original version from GoG. Good to know that any future original games from Beamdog will support linux natively, but can't see myself shelling out full price on a game I already own.

aVENGER, I gotta ask you as a lead on this: you managed to get MCA on board, you got never released/shown design docs and you chose not to improve/expand Curst? With Avellone writing and designing the additions, you could have won the favor of community.
I may speculate that there are factors in play we aren't aware about and you aren't allowed to disclose. But I'm really interested in reasoning. :salute:

For better or worse, that was my decision.

My goal for PST:EE was that it should deliver the canon PST experience on modern devices, which meant no new/restored content and no gameplay changes. I felt that PST is strong enough to stand on its own, time will tell if this was the correct choice.

PST wasn't a game about screen resolution, patfinding, UI or black outliners around characters. It was a game about writing, worldbuilding and atmosphere. Beamdog managed to get on board one and only person that nobody would complain if he added new content , Chris Avellone himself. Yet in your infinite wisdom you decided that Chris talent would be best used as a spell check corrector.

Buddy, I believe that you commited biggest blunder and crime against cRPGs since Bethesda mutilation of Fallout franchise. Shame on you.

Are you hoping it will one day rival Steam
or is it mainly for keeping direct purchases updated?

Answered his own question.

The real question is: What are your plans for the future of the new Beamdog Client?

Yes, such a real question it had to be asked, internally concluded, then asked again - all in one sentence.

Nice place to stop reading.

I'm sure glad I bought the original version in GOG for 5 bucks some years ago.

Also, Beamdog sucks and I am glad that once it runs out of old games to "enhance edit" into the market(i.e: release old games with shitty mods and ask the price of a new product) it will inevitably go bankrupt. It just pains me that the bums will make a profit in the meanwhile.

As much as Inxile and Obsidian have been failing, at least they have the decency to put up work into creating new games. Beamdog doesn't. It is a parasitic company that can't even remaster old games in a competent manner.
