For some areas, yes. This is definitely a cyberpunk game but the really great thing about the crazy Barkley setting is that we can do whatever we want and it won't be out of place. One of the areas I'm really looking forward to working on is this 60s/70s fantasy-inspired tower with psychedelic visuals and imagery. But mechanically, I'd say it's quite different from the Genesis Shadowrun game in terms of depth (even though this game is humorous, it has very real and hardcore RPG character development and choice mechanics) and scope (completely non-linear and open ended).

Seriously? I don't even like or play JRPGs anymore but one of the few series I could still stomach were the "Tales of" games. Sure they have their fair share of cliches and animu garbage, but their battle systems are fun as hell and they always have tons of content. There are far worse series out there, especially when it comes to Jap RPGs.

I used to play a bunch of JRPG shit on top of my cRPG stuff, but that "Tales of" series literally has the worst combat system of all time. It makes RTwP look like chess. Maybe they got better since the first couple?

ETA: Holy shit the tiers are brilliant. Also its kind of funny that kickstarter will charge the $1000 backer $15to ship their impersonation opportunity to them outside of the US.

Yeah, I think Tales of Phantasia and Destiny 1 had annoying, restricted 2D combat. Destiny 2 on PSX is when I remember the shit got fun. Then there were the PS2 and Gamecube Tales games which were actually enjoyable if you overlooked the puff-puff weeaboo nonsense. Nothing like beating the shit out of monsters with chained combos, nice change of pace from other menu-based Jap games and actually made grinding fun. May be tougher to try playing them nowadays and getting past the kiddy anime stuff though.

It would be glorious if those cutscenes looked like early 90's dawn of fmv sequences, pixallated, and done on a green screen over a badly animated background.

Or even up to emperor of dune level.
