Transgender characters or any character sexuality you can imagine, are ok in fantasy game like this. They can use a trans-gender potion. Even Dark souls 2/3,BB,DA:I has this mechanics for main player. Why not then for some NPC? But, for this character in SoD, I wish she/he hides her intimate story. So, player with high charisma can find about it but only with some charisma threshold.

Counter argument:

Real trans people don’t talk about their histories at the drop of a hat: Yes, why, though? Because, frankly, we fear mockery at best and violence and discrimination at worst. As people have been at pains to point out, Forgotten Realms’ Faerun is not Earth, and there’s little evidence of there being a similar culture of trans-hate that would cause Mizhena to be fearful. Mutatis mutandis, people who transition in Faerun would have a different relationship to how it’s publicly discussed.
Actually it does not even have to do with culture. She can raise dead so she is at least lvl 9 cleric. You don't fuck around with lvl 9+ clerics in that world, you really don't. Nobody would dare ever give her a negative comment, especially since she is a Tempus cleric and they are crazy.
It says in the books Tempus cleric must draw blood of enemies every day and if they cannot they must bleed themselves.

Heya! It's me, Imoen a strong transgender woman with a long history of abuse and misunderstandings, my parents thought I was a boy because I have been born with male genitalia but I realized I'm a girl when I was six and saw a squirrel eating nuts.

That would be a vast improvement over her actual character.

In a fantasy game, high charisma of character or charm person could make them say everything. Also, there could be nice game mechanics in the tavern. You know when you pay enough for the ales/beers you get an info from bartender. If you could meet transgender char in the game and buy her/him enough ales, she will tell you eveything about herself.
That would apply for thoose who haven't rolled in high charisma.
I'm not talking about real life. Game can't compare with it.

I think it's a bit of an empty argument. Just because there's no built in hate-lore doesn't automatically mean there's acceptance.

For example, although it's quite different from being trans, a dwarf & non-dwarf romantic relationship is not necessarily common in society on Earth. In fact, although you might not get harrassed, you will get awkward stares in public. People at work WILL probably whisper how strange it is when you're not around.

And someone correct me if I'm off base here (as my D&D lore is limited) last I checked a dwarf and tiefling or dwarf and half elf or dwarf and whatever romance is not necessarily common.

And if an admitted and unapologetic SJW writer said something like, "I think little people need love too. Honestly, when I write romances I try and make the height difference as diverse as possible. I mean, writing romances for people taller than 5'8" is boring" it might not be a big deal.

But then you start the game and your childhood girl friend is a hafling. Ok...well I've seen one or two dwarves in real life, so it's not THAT big of a stretch that we'd be romantic. And then you go to a tavern and you meet the bartender named Phage (manlet) whose wife is 6'3". And then you are joined by a 7'1" warrior and his 3'5" fiance. And then suddenly you realize they're all "little person + normal" couples. And you remember what that SJW said about diversoty and "too bad if it makes no sense that so many LP+Cis-height relationships exist. I don't care. I'm a MASTER writer"

Well, then you might just log on to RPGcodex and write post after post complaining about how you don't like SJW politics in your face. Even though you've laid a midget once and you have no issues with cross-height relationships. Just saying...you just might.

TL;DR Lore provides the structure of the world. But gaps exist, and we fill those gaps with our societal norms. So for an SJW, 80% of her friends might be little people, so LP and Cis-height relationships are common. But for the rest of us we can only rely on our own experience and the the search function on a porn site.

Point is, lack of lore does not automatically mean we accept all kinds of stuff "just because". We might...but it's not an automatic.

I wish people would stop talking about the tranny and start talking about Safana. I still haven't played SoD yet and was wondering if they only changed her personality in the expansion or actually retconned her in the original BG?

Has her personality really changed? The floaters are still sultry.

Only in the expansion from what I understand.

They are not allowed to change any original content in Bg1 and Bg2 in any ways.

Deep in your subconscious mind spreading lies.
Anyway I played through it. Quick comments because I'm too tired for paragraphs.

- there is some mild agenda pushing, easily ignored
- companions are by far the worst writing in the game, old companions have nowhere to go because their arks all happen in bg2, new companions are an assortment of 1 dimensional crap
- main story is actually pretty well written and interesting, if predictable
- pretty much all side quests are fetch quests and there's quite a few
- some fun unique encounters punctuated by Icewind Dale levels of trash mobs (on insane difficulty, trash mob numbers increase to obscene levels, like 20 enemies every 10 steps)
- some challenging fights
- Has a lot more in common with Icewindale than BG
- The upgraded engine's big fights are kinda neat
- Feels very wrong to have +1 dex/str/caster level items in BG and yet there is a lot.

Here's the big thing though, they really really shouldn't have picked to make an 'in between' game. Or at least they should have given some shitty reason why your character lost all his levels and items. As things stand you start the game with 95% of the items that you need (there are a few good items but most are not good enough to replace bg1 gear), 95% of the spells you will ever have and you grow 1-2 levels depending on your class (xp locked at 500,000). So it's a loooooooong 25 hours of essentially playing for a story, that frankly isn't good enough to be the only reason to play the game. Really considering the overly epic ending (not suitable for lvl 10 chars) and also the fact that you get stripped of all items when you start BG2, they really really should've pushed the items to ridiculous levels, at least then there would something worth exploring for.

So, if you love the infinity engine, buy it later at a discount. If you only liked BG, it's not worth it.

Came to post some impressions too. I only played for ~5 hours so far.

Area design:
1. The city of BG feels more alive. Guards patrol, people walk around and talk to each other, doors open and close, things like that. It's surprising even, Vanilla was like a static image in comparison. The refugees flooding the city feels exactly like that, people fucking everywhere, walking, getting in your way, sounds of footsteps everywhere. Feels crowded and alive. Mages casting some simple spells on rats. Everyone's doing something. I often stopped just to see if a cutscene was going on or if people were just doing their usual shit. That was refreshingly good.

Combat:
2. Battles are actually challenging on "Core" already. Some encounters in the tutorial, I had to retry 4-5 times with full prebuff. Basically SOD recognizes that there are "cheesy tactics" and accounts for them by making encounters more difficult.

Writing:
3. New books. 50% of them are less boring than Vanilla's, but other 50% are bad, like "oh wow, I wish I hadn't read that" bad.

4. There was a dream sequences akin to the ones you get in BG2, but it was... like someone decided to make one, but didn't know quite what to put in it. Felt forced and there was no reason for it. But then there was familiar voice acting and that part was good. Mixed feelings.

5. I like that random NPCs would sometimes inform you of something and then it'd turn out to be false information. I complained before that PoE never did that, but Beamdog did.

6. Edwin lines are horrible, cringe-worthy. Whoever wrote the new Edwin must be castrated or punished physically somehow. Here's his new "lines":
(there are no spoilers, it's just one-liners)

^ Whoever wrote that is literally fucking retarded.
Probably the same person who wrote this:
(no spoilers)
c938e61de0fca14b109ef2b300bb7dd7.png

This Edwin horrible writing is beyond good and evil. How hard is it to get that he's got delusions of grandeur bordering on slight symptoms of schizophrenia, and he's not just an infantile idiot like this writer seems to think. This writer thinks Edwin is evil Minsc basically. What the fuck.

Engine:
6. I don't know how they managed it, but they somehow fucked up the opengl rendering. It gave me choppy experience with FPS jumping 20 to 30 all the time. Switched over to DX and it was fine after that. But gave me quite a scare before I found the fix.

7. The webm movies inserted into game in place of particles look horrible when playing at locked zoom, lol. Just as I predicted they would.

TLDR:
- one of the writers suffers from trisomy 21, but others are okay (I have some strong suspicions of who that might be, obviously, in light of recent events...)
- combat is more challenging
- the world feels more alive

Maybe it's Obsidian/Paradox secret plot - the more we hear 'tranny' the more we're getting prepared for 'Tranny'.

Is that typical of moment-to-moment dialogue/blurbs? BG1 had some cringy stuff, but also had some RP appropriate stuff (e.g. Jaheira commenting on Nashkel mines being a "wound" in the Earth or something).

Yeah those are blurbs. One other weird thing, is that there is in party banter between companions, except that the game doesn't pause and the dialog box doesn't show up. So half the time one of these dialogs will start up (they are mildly entertaining depending on who's talking to who) and then you accidentally walk into something that triggers a script and the banter is cut off half way. Think Dragon Age origins.

You can see that the writers have no idea about the characters they write about. Poor Edwin.

Insert Title Here RPG Wokedex Codex Year of the Donut I'm very into cock and ball torture
Edwin was one of my favorite NPCs, one of the few good ones in BG 1 who only grew in BG 2.

I'm particularly fond of him because he's always a better wizard than even the PC can hope to be thanks to his extra +1 spell slots for every circle, which is ridiculously good for people who do not rest more than once every 24 in-game hours. I don't think I've ever played these games without Edwin in my party, except for the solo challenges.

That's why you make yourself a mage/thief or fighter/mage because you will never compare directly with edwin senpai.

It seems like they got Xzar and Edwin mixed up. Those lines sound like something (a badly written) Xzar would say during his mania.
