Obviously meaning Microsoft is buying Obsidian to put them to work on #BGIII.

Makes sense, except Obsidian is not yet part of Microsoft and Fargo talks about somebody already working on BG3:

Sadly, Baldur's Gate has a storied connection with the dark god, Bhaal. Just a few years ago, the city saw the terrifying return of the Lord of Murder. Following a number of deaths, one of the city's dukes, Torlin Silvershield, was revealed as the Chosen of Bhaal, and underwent a monstrous transformation, turning many citizens into bloodthirsty killers and inspiring a riot and much death before finally being put down by brave adventurers. Even now, murderous echoes ripple through the city and beyond, and reports of unexplainable, gruesome killings flow out of Baldur's Gate.

Around 1479 DR, on Returning Day, his half-brother Viekang engaged Gorion's ward in a fight in the Wide of Baldur's Gate's Upper City. The fight's winner was the last surviving Bhaalspawn and transformed into The Slayer, heralding the resurrection of Bhaal, god of Murder

Hope Gaider is working on it.
It should be turn based, and use 5e. (although I wouldn't mind 4e at all)
It should NOT be made in Unity; a custom, tried and true system should be used that doesn't overheat the GPU.
I would not be averse to Bioware doing it, as long as Gaider was majorly involved.
There needs to be a cool, memorable villain like Iraeneus.

One real tricky part of this though, is how do you continue the saga? BGII + expansion already had you go into epic levels, so you can't continue with that character. Obvious thing is to restart at level 1-3 (I hope they have you start at level 3) but then how do you factor in 'Baldur's Gate' aside from the obvious name drop? And for the love of rpgs, please don't make the Bhaalspawn of BG I & II the villain. That would be too cliche.

That's actually the only thing that would make sense: making the protagonist of BG1/2 the villain of BG3, maybe with an option to save him in the end.
Yes, I like the idea.
And the villains background and shape can be created by the player, so this could be in the end the character you played in the saga.

Daily reminder that BG3 is still being made by Larian.

People who are seriously making "guesses" or repeating the inane "they denied it so it's not them" - will regret this deeply in just a few years. I hope your apologies are gonna be good. Start preparing them.

Maybe, but are you sure what your friend heard wasn't just a term that was thrown around to refer to a Larian-made D&D RPG that won't actually be called "Baldur's Gate 3"? Sort of like the rumor that Arkane Studios' Prey was internally referred to as a System Shock 3.

That would be a bit of a coincidence considering it was pretty much confirmed that Larian or not, BG3 is in development.

Unless Fargo and Bester are both making shit up and there's no BG3 at all.

But I trust Bester.

You have reasons to trust Bester, he's such a trustable source of information even in France professional journos, quote him "http://www.gameblog.fr/news/78733-baldur-s-gate-3-larian-studio-divinity-sur-le-coup"
I wish i was kidding, but alas i am not....Thats how low they have fallen.

Yet larian offcialy denied they are working on BG3.

Gameblog doesn't count. They are the laughingstock of the entire country because of both how terrible and arrogant they are.
My favorite moment is from that article : http://www.gameblog.fr/news/20437-maj-ngp-quelle-autonomie

Gameblog """"journalist"""" notices 1:23 on the screen of the newly unveiled PS Vita , deduces it has "1hour23minutes" of autonomy, gets called out and mocked in the comments, still argues that his doubts are valid.

I wish this was an isolated incident.

Actually BG3 is being made by Ubisoft. My friend’s mother cleans the offices over there and they get her to help out with coding since the dev team has the same qualifications as her.

I'm not worried, Infinitronomachine will remind us of Bester's prophetic words 5 years later when Baldurs Gate 3 is released and Beamdog, having recently relocated to Pakistan, is chosen to handle the Switch port

Obviously you continue it, just get into god-levels/godhood, what's the problem?

Larian would not be a good candidate for this at all. They make fantastic turn based combat, a great graphics engine (albeit not well optimized) and have fun gameplay BUT their writing is so poor, it actually detracts from all the prior items ultimately making people like me quit their games half way just because the writing keeps puling you out of the game. It is absolutely horrendous. Though BG series didn't have stellar plot, it did have cohesive, falvorful writing that immersed you into the game and into the quests, especially BG II. The writing made you care for characters and NPCs. Larian's track record states they will fuck that up badly, and their retarded sense of humor will make the plot into an inane joke.

OTOH I would love a D&D game from them (or Pathfinder) with turn based combat and full rules from tabletop, as long as they hire a dedicated professional writing & quest design team that's either American or British (or heck Canadian)

Is the license not a part of public record to see who has control over it? I'd imagine Beamdog would be the team working on it.
