Grab the Codex by the pussy Pathfinder: Wrath
Given the speed with which the Codex, Kotaku et al. pounced on this whole ordeal, it would be altogether fitting for the marine references to culminate in a giant red herring, leading to a Divinity: Original Sin 3 announcement instead.

My bet is that the tentacles are a reference to the Illithids. But I dont see how this could connect to Avernus or Baldurs Gate.

Ah, one more item in the home page code:

There’s nothing to question yet when they haven’t announced this yet, but after talking to some folks in the know after this post went live, I can assure you that it’s real - Larian is making Baldur’s Gate 3. And as soon as I have the chance, I’ll be asking them these questions and many more.

Ok, so, its "official". Jason is solid most of the time.

Yep. Shit taste in games, for the most part, but he's the closest thing to a real journalist the online gaming press seems to have, in that he actually gets sources and investigates before writing articles.

Edit: Although Bubbles was close. :P

Could be Moonshae isles... close to Amn and Baldurs gate, lots of pirates and islands to explore. While also limiting areas to specific sizes while providing a sense of a large game map.

The city sprawled northward from the sea, spreading along the flanks of Mount Waterdeep, which used to be home to the Melairkyn, a mithral-mining dwarvenclan, and the entire length and great depth of the mountain was riddled with passages and tunnels, most of which were occupied by deadly creatures whose presence in the mountain predated the founding of the city itself.

Shit, no, its going to be Waterdeep... damn it.

In case there was any doubt, a lot of people are privately confirming to me secondhand/obliquely that this is for real. Holy fucking shit.

You guys forgot something historical: Remember who was one of the three main antagonist groups was in Treasures of the Savage Frontier? Remember where in the Realms that one was set in?

Larian has a tendency where they basically never rename placeholder names under the hood. I wouldn't read too much into most of that stuff for now.

Well I just thought they would disappoint if no one will find out the puns they made there (pulpo_fiction, Cephalopods_Smoke, Tako_to_me, etc.). :P

I am excited for this. The DoS games have nice engines. My only problem with them is the simplistic combat and classes, but if they use their tech on an AD&D based game it could be really interesting. But then, I feel like I already played that recently with Kingmaker and it was boring as hell.

Why not? I liked DoS, it just got repetitive. But more of a 'full' RPG would be nice. Whether they can live up to the legacy is another matter, I doubt they will, but I wouldn't put it past them. I mean DoS2 is a pretty big and complex game. They did it all with minimal budget. The only thing I don't like about it is some of the design, but making a game like BG3 would take a lot of that design out of their hands.
