What does "polite discussion" even mean? Where do you draw the line? Vague rules are inevitably abused and/or misinterpreted.

As DU and others said, censorship quickly becomes a slippery slope. And in the end, it gains you nothing because some faggot pink-haired tranny will still pull the same shit that would get the site in trouble.

Submitting to their demands isn't going to help you. Even if you turned the site into Reset Era, remember that Reset Era formed out of NeoGaf because no matter how much NeoGaf cucked to them, it still wasn't good enough.

I don't know man. I've been silently following this site over the last 10 years, and there's definitely a change in tone and attitude over the last couple of years (for the worse, from my point of view). I'm here for discussing games, and that's it. As a person who doesn't hate any specific group of people, I find the many casual xenophobic, homophobic, racist, white-supremacist, etc. remarks quite off-putting and in bad taste. I'm just talking about common decency here. I wouldn't like to have a "discussion" in real life either when half the people are shouting at each other, calling each other names and stuff like that.

The problem is that such talk have infiltrated the purely gaming oriented threads as well lately (otherwise I wouldn't care, I'd just stay away from all non-gaming related subforums). The funny thing is that as a person who doesn't watch the news, has no interest in politics (especially not American politics), doesn't care about Twitter, gays, whatever, has all these things shoved in my face in the general RPGs subforum (from one quite vocal group's point of view, that is). To me that's just obnoxious noise. In one of the recent game release threads there was a 20 page tirade about tranny this, tranny that, and almost nothing about the actual gameplay (I think it was Solasta).

There's lots of people here who are very knowledgeable about oldschool games (not just RPGs), and that's the only thing that keeps me here, despite all the other crap. So if all political discussion was simply banned in the game subforums, I'm all for it.

I couldn't agree more, except I do watch the news and do have an interest in politics and US politics, but when I'm interested in discussing it here, I wade into the politics subforum (and then quickly get reminded why I don't go in there very often).

It's not only offputting, it makes it difficult to have any sort of actual game discussion because whatever these sorts of posters are complaining about is some sort of cherry picked moment that make up less than a percent of the game's actual content.

Exactly my point. If I remember correctly, Solasta from my example had gender pronoun selection at the start, which didn't affect anything whatsoever (I haven't played the game yet). More importantly, it was an entirely optional feature, you could just leave it alone and get on with your life. But apparently it got some people worked up so much that they felt the need to refund the game... which is fine too, but the whole discussion was clogged with that crap. Wonder how these people deal with official forms where there is an "Other" option for your gender (personally, I just find it slightly amusing).

Personally, I don't think I've ever seen a tranny in real life. I saw some bearded dude in his 40s in a miniskirt, fishnet + heels combo in a supermarket in Switzerland like 15 years ago, and that's about it

Yeah, it sounded heavy handed first, but after reading the whole news story it seems there was some systematic harassment going on there, not just "misgendering" someone. Putting the whole gender thing aside, if you keep pestering someone (stalking, making abusive phonecalls, etc), you can be reported to the police in most countries and at some point the police will pay you a visit...

Okay, that's a bit crazy, I agree. To be clear, to me it's like everybody has their biological gender, of course, then some people are LARPing they are something else... I haven't really made up my mind on that yet, but clearly fining people who want to open a discussion about it is not the way to go. But then, outright harassing those people is neither OK.

So you're saying it should be a crime to inform people about the candidates they're voting for by using fliers?

I'm saying harassment is a crime in many nations and probably most/all of them. I'm saying that if you're too much of a mouth breather to understand the difference between a one off comment and a harassment campaign, you've got bigger problems than can be addressed on the Codex and I suggest you find yourself a caretaker and/or a mental health professional. Regardless, I wish you all the best in your endeavours, pointless as they seem to be.
