Some stuff I found on their forum.
It may vary at release, and probably in Early Access there will be little options to Advanced Careers due to level limits, but this shows a provisional list.

The ones in red are also in the game, but the character doesn't meet the requisites.

Development Update #4
A brief post this time, including our soundtrack preview!

This will be a very brief post to let you know we keep working steadily on all fronts. Most of the essential game systems are already working, in this screenshot you can see a few ones that were not present until recently (minimap, camping and other party actions).

The game soundtrack is a very important part of Archaelund, and we wanted to share a video with three of the tracks created by Laura: the game's "Main Title" theme that you can listen to through the main menus, one battle track, and one exploration track.

That's all for now, I want the next update to be longer and offer some gameplay information, if time allows.

How come more people don't know about this? Fuck Elder Scrolls 6, this looks 10× better then any Todd Howard's lucid dream. Pathfinder + Conan + 1st person exploration and 3rd person tactical combat. Very interesting mix. Steam page still says Early Access: 2022. It got delayed few times, will we suffer yet another delay? Itz Gamescom time, perhaps some exclusive teaser for Codex? DavidBVal

So when is this available for torrenting?
Right after you give your shekels for a copy.
Cool it with the antisemitic remarks.

:deathclaw:

What? Talking about shekels with an israeli is antisemitic now?
So, talking about Rubles with a russian or dollar with an american is racist?

I just realized every other Codexer is a snowflake or a retard.
Jesus Christ, dude.

Thanks for the interest! given the priority of making the game my way, I prefer the limited "niche" attention and I've kept a very low profile. Still, the game is getting a very decent number of wishlists on Steam. My mind is completely off marketing or sales projections at this point; there will be time for marketing once the Early Access is out. In the end a good game will sell fine, and a bad game will have mediocre sales, so that's where I put my efforts.

I will squeeze that 2022 self-imposed deadline to the limit, so the Early Access gets as much content as possible. I don't rule out the possibility of a delay, however, especially if alpha testing brings issues.

The current internal build is playable, with content worth around ten hours including party creation, two tutorial-like areas, a town, three dungeons and about a dozen quests, all of that within the same large geographical area with many things to explore. This first region is about 90% ready (some quests and encounters are still missing or not refined enough). We have another 3 similar areas and a dozen dungeons already built "graphically", which means you can walk around them and explore, but the content for those areas is for the most part only planned/designed. Content-wise we're doing fine to release the EA by the end of the year.

However, some of the game systems are still not in place, like spellcasting or the implementation of some of the Skills/Talents. Others like the minimap/worldmap are functionally incomplete, and AI still requires work. All of these tasks need to be completed for the EA to be released; it might sound like a lot of work but the list was huge this january and tons of things have been implemented in the last eight months, like resting & fatigue, light sources, magic items, hidden item detection, traps, puzzle system, expanded journal, elemental damage, damage resistances, localization system, foraging system, reputation system, character status (poisoned, stunned, insane and others), minimap FOW, graphical settings, handout inspection... and much more. I am confident about completing the missing functionalities in the next months.

I am facing a distraction this last couple of weeks since Google is forcing me to update Exiled Kingdoms with the latest Android SDK, and that proved to be annoying due to the new permissions and limitations, but I'm almost done and I'm again working almost 100% on Archaelund.

It's supposed to be in the vein of Realms of Arkania, so first-person combat wouldn't have made sense in that respect.

Also, are there any first-person turn-based combat games? That sounds like a nightmare.

DavidBVal Take your time. Don't halfass the EA release. I think a first impression is vital, and will help word of mouth.

I wouldn't release EA with too many systems missing.

I thought of blobbers shortly after I posted.:)

But I was thinking of squad-based first-person, with party members able to be in different positions, which is what the view in this game allows.

7 Mages does exactly that - in combat each of your characters can move independently and has their own action point pool, despite staying in first person.

It's made in the vein of Pool of Radiance. Meant in a non-sacrilegous, humble way.

M&M and Wizardry. I might even add an option to sleep at the stables, heh.

@DavidBVal Interesting, 9 quests implemented, is the quest design similar than in Exiled Kingdom, as deep I mean and with quests chains, etc ?
I can't wait to test the fully implemented combat system.

I just counted them. There's currently 15 quests in the build, 11 of them completable. Some of them have up to 3 different ways to be completed, which I have already planned long-term consequences for. I won't release the EA with less than 30 quests.

Of course the early quests are not comparable to the "big" quests in Exiled Kingdoms, but yes, I like to think that I have learned a lot with EK, and it will show in Archaelund. Just compare my 2014 quests in the first EK areas (kill 5 goblins, anyone?) with the ones from the last update in the Temple of the Sleepers or the companion quests. I hope to keep improving, and I am really excited about some of the planned content beyond the EA (the main quest in particular)

I think the Wizardries come closest, with S/M/L range in the party ranks, and for monsters, and weapons for each range.

Wizardry 8 adds the squad radar layout, where you can position party members on the flanks, in the center and the rear, which affects both chance to be ambushed and party/monster interaction opportunities. They can move between positions during combat as well.

7 Mages does exactly that - in combat each of your characters can move independently and has their own action point pool, despite staying in first person.
I didn't know that about 7 Mages, that sounds really cool.

Development Update #5, and soundtrack premiered by Orchestra!
We're adding more and more content to the game. Also, Archaelund's OST played live by orchestra in Atlanta!

Bringing the world to life...

Since most of the game "systems" are already in place and working, my current development focus is content. Quests, characters, items, encounters, little secrets found here and there... in sum, what you call a game.

This is, no doubt, my favorite part of developing a role-playing game. It is the reason why I am making Archaelund: to tell stories. It is also the hardest part, especially in an open-world game in which things can be done in any order (or not at all!), and when quests are designed to have multiple outcomes, with consequences for the party's choices. I've been writing down many of these quests for years, and now it's the time to implement them into the game!

Development status, and Early Access goals

I'll give a breakdown of what we have, and what is enough to release the Early Access.

The world of Archaelund is divided in outdoor square "sectors", each of them large enough to include multiple locations such as villages, towns, ruins, bandit camps, or entrances to dungeons. Some will be more civilized and include human settlements, others will be wildlands, and typically there will be a number of dungeons accessible from them.

The first of such "sectors" is about 90% ready for the Early Access. It includes a town and many other special locations, lots of NPCs to talk to, a dozen quests and quite a few surprises. Currently it takes ten to twelve hours to create your party and go through that content, although it's hard to estimate the playing time given the open nature of the game.

There are currently another 3 accessible sectors which you can walk around, but the content in them is still only outlined.

We intend to release the EA with three sectors, and at least a dozen dungeons, although these goals may be revised. All these early sectors include towns or villages, which makes them pretty dense in terms of content. After Early Access release we plan to keep adding sectors to the game map, with a goal of 21 sectors when we reach version 1.0.

Archaelund: The Orchestral Suite performed by live orchestra!

This evening (19:30 EST) the Georgia Tech orchestra will perform a selection of themes from the Archaelund OST as the opening of the concert. If you happen to be in Atlanta, you can attend this free event at the Ferst Center in Georgia Tech university campus. Otherwise, you can follow it live on youtube!

After the suite, our composer Laura will perform Beethoven's Fourth Concerto for Piano and Orchestra.

UI looks unfinished and portraits really suck. Other than that it looks great cant wait to see how would dual perspective work in a game.

Importing portraits is a must but the standard ones look pretty good to me, and I appreciate that drawn portraits are included at all.
