I liked the music and setting. Everything else was garbage.I still don't get why the first game had such a cult following.
It was a bland Stephen King novel with boring combat.

Kinda cool atmosphere, even if cheesy. The best I can compare it to is the 90s in feel, Twin Peaks and X-files, set in a rural town in the north, surrounded by pine forest. I'm really soft for that setting.I still don't get why the first game had such a cult following.

More like same case as Death Stranding.I still don't get why the first game had such a cult following.

Same case as Beyond Good and Evil - potential greater than current state.

I still don't think too many games have the same vibe.
A Stephen King-esque, X-files horror game set in rural coastal America, made specifically for an adult audience.
That's actually a winning formula if you could nail it. But seeing how modern film and television can only produce media that even zoomers think is brain dead, I wouldn't bet on video games anytime soon.
Yep, there's very few games that even remotely get close to replicating the Twin Peaks vibes, and Alan Wake sorta did that at the time. Alan Wake 2 improved upon it.Kinda cool atmosphere, even if cheesy. No winning formula survives a black female protagonistI still don't think too many games have the same vibe.

Jokes aside, I haven't seen the movie but read the novel. That is some atrociously depressing shit.
As depressing as Alan Wake being replaced in his own titular series. Modern year happenings.
I hope you were forced to read it and didn't do it of your own volition.

Tons of people are just dumb and easily impressed by the illusion of artistic depth by pretentious third-rate hacks and self-important idiots.
Epic Games is probably getting all the money until they made the cost of the game back, and then once that has happened they split the royalties. Is my guess. Epic funded the game after all.Despite getting multiple awards, Remedy has yet to get a penny from the profits. Where has all the money gone?
YOU WILL ENJOY OUR DIVERSE GAME(MOVIE).I have completed Alan Wake 2 and it should have been a movie and not a game. There should be a distinction between movies and games and remedy stopped making games after maxpayne 2. Game hardly has gameplay and boss fights are so stupid i needed to turn on the light to defeat the so called Scratch who wasnt scratch but it is alan wake. So alan wake screwed himself in this game and screwed me too with his stupid ramblings. Totally wasted of my time.
Source: Remedy GamesRemedy is thrilled (as thrilled as Finnish people can be) to announce that we are working together with Annapurna, who are co-financing the development of Control 2 and taking the Control and Alan Wake franchises to film, TV and beyond.
What does that mean for you, our dear fans? Above all it means Remedy is able to make Control 2 exactly the game we want it to be, while we now also have an incredible partner to extend our IPs to other mediums. We are also going to be publishing Control 2 ourselves. When I look at all the games we have in the pipeline, the future of Remedy is incredibly exciting. You can trust us to keep bringing you incredible video game experiences.
The Control 2 development team is working full steam ahead on the game. We know you are eager for news on the game (and Condor!), but you are going to have to wait a while for that.
Mikael Kasurinen, Remedy’s Creative Director & Juha Vainio, Executive Producer on the Control Franchise had this to say about the agreement:
"We're super excited to get Annapurna on board! Annapurna's creative values align perfectly with ours, making them an inspiring partner for the journey ahead. We at Remedy have been working on Control 2 for a while already, it's looking amazing, and we feel Annapurna is the perfect partner to work with as the game development is moving forward towards production and eventually across the finish line."
We did manage to get a hold of Creative Director Sam Lake on his well-earned vacation from getting Alan Wake 2 done to comment the following…
“I’m absolutely thrilled (yes!) by this opportunity to expand the story of Alan Wake and our whole Remedy Connected Universe to mediums beyond games, and to build all of this in close collaboration, games, film, TV, and other mediums as well, as one unified vision. I trust Annapurna are the perfect partner for us to make this dream come true.”
This is quite a unique partnership, and we're very proud to continue as an independent studio with full creative ownership of two of our most beloved franchises. We’re very excited to see what we can achieve together with Annapurna and expand the Remedy Connected Universe even wider.

ANNAPURNA PARTNERS WITH REMEDY TO DEVELOP AND PRODUCE CONTROL AND ALAN WAKE FRANCHISES FOR FILM AND TELEVISION
Los Angeles, CA, August 29, 2024 – Annapurna today announced a partnership with Remedy Entertainment Plc (“Remedy”) to develop and produce their award-winning Control and Alan Wake franchises for film, television and other audiovisual formats.
As part of the deal, Annapurna will also work with Remedy as a co-production and co-financing partner for the upcoming game Control 2. Remedy will continue to focus on developing Control 2 and the rest of its slate of games, building on their successful track record as a development partner. Last year, they worked with Epic Games Publishing on Alan Wake 2, which became Remedy’s fastest-selling game and was a winner of multiple Game of the Year Awards.
“At Remedy, our primary focus continues to be what we do best—crafting industry-defining video games that have earned us global recognition. Now, the time is right to expand the reach of Remedy's beloved franchises to an even broader global audience through film, television, and more. In Annapurna, we have found an outstanding partner who shares our ambition and passion for immersive storytelling. We are excited to see them bring the universes and characters we have created to life in new mediums, thanks to this unique deal.” commented Tero Virtala, CEO of Remedy Entertainment.
The deal was announced just a week after the news that ex-Epic Games executive Hector Sanchez had rejoined Annapurna as President of Interactive and New Media, where his role includes partnering with founder and CEO Megan Ellison to develop IP across mediums.
"This deal with Remedy isn't just about adapting great games—-it's about breaking new ground in how companies can collaborate. By backing Remedy's move toward self-publishing, we're putting our faith in their vision,” said Sanchez. “We know from experience that Remedy is a first-class games development partner, and we’re excited to share their work with an even wider audience by bringing the Control and Alan Wake universes to film, television and beyond.”
“The way we tell stories is changing,” said Ellison. “Today people fall in love with characters and universes, not formats, and we’re excited to leverage Remedy’s beloved, immersive narratives in these new mediums.”
