  • What Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest games would you recommend for someone with no previous experience in either.
Or with JRPGs as whole for that matter.

For Final Fantasy I tend to recommend either V or Tactics to CRPG fans, since they are the ones with the best gameplay. VI is not a bad call aswell since while it has mediocre gameplay it has excellent characters and story. For a good allrounder however, if I do not want to shill my favourite IV again, Final Fantasy X is pretty damn good. You just need to be able to tolerate Tidus as an MC.

Don't play X first if you never played a Final Fantasy. That is when the series really declined.

Please don't bully Maxie, he is on vacation but can't go anywhere since all his money goes into child support

How much I hate Katakana. Almost feels harder to read when you know English than when you do not, because you assume wrong words to be there.

Yeah it really takes a while to get the hang of how they butcher English to be able to consistently recognize what words they're trying and failing to say.

    In IWD2 I used to always make a Barbarian/Fighter
Since you're apparently so shocked by my post, I have to ask: what 5E CRPGs with that level of verticality, environmental interaction, rule-based freedom of movement, and visual representation of numerical mechanics have you been playing (besides BG3, which I haven't touched yet)? Please give me recommendations!

And about the verticality: I feel it kind of goes beyond gimmick status for me, simply because I think freedom of movement can add so much more to not only possibilities available in combat, but also a whole new dimension to exploration too. Those are a couple of the most important things in RPGs for me, so an enhancement or evolution of them in a top-down game is a special addition for me.

Using Jump and Misty Step and Spider Climb to collect hidden chests which then contain +1 shields and the like really is a high point of the game. That was when my opinion shifted from mediocre to good. Shame that all of the other parcour hidden items can be solved by autopathing.
    Jinn
    Jinn
Yeah, that's the kind of stuff I'm talking about. And I agree that autopathing can take the fun out the more accessible caches. I still try to find my way there one platform or level at a time just because it's more fun.

I have seen it, it is definitly interesting. It would make sense that the new Christians, who now carry (more of?) a spark of divinity in the Holy Spirit, be no longer subjected to the same rules as the prior Christians.

This kind of behavior is only acceptable in blobbers and old RPGs like Daggerfall. There is no excuse for newer games.

Never thought we would get the best definition for what an rpg is from the Japanese. I guess the debate is over.

Also the card minigame in the casino makes for a great drinking game IRL. A shame I couldn't get into the sequel.

I have not touched the sequel yet myself.
Combat was never good in Ni No Kuni, but I sure as hell prefer janky ATB wannabe Pokemon with problems to whatever pikmin action disaster Ni No Kuni 2 has.

Also it annoys me when you play old DnD inspired crawlers like Elminage Gothic where better AC is negative you are now unsure wether Accuracy is supposed to be high or low to be good. Genuinly had to google that, and there was conflicting information. Fairly certain high is better in that game tho.
    Thac0
    Thac0
Since most games that use Thac0 and negative AC are good I developed a love/hate relationship with that system. It is genuinly awfull and usurped by so much cleaner systems, but I had fun times with it.

only 10 eps in but golden wind > all so far holy fuccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccc

I don't mind the art style everyone is shitting on. I liked the way DiU looked, but the characters of GW kind of look like beautiful meth addicts (or ugly twinks? idk one of those) which suits the darker and edgier tone IMO.

The only unrealistic thing about Radscorpions is their size, and the only thing that prevents them from going bigger is their ineffective breathing system. Fallout just presumes that FEV somehow changed their breathing system and made the growth possible. I'm no biologist, but I think that adding some muscles to scorpion's book lungs may do that.
    Thac0
    Thac0
The problem is that is exactly what Fallout does for every realism break. I am no scienticist, but radiation is gonna fix it. There is not even an attempt at a string of causality, which is so important to Dick.
With psionics being possible in Fallout without any good lore explanations it's almost as much a fantasy setting as dark sun.
