You have a great list of incline throughout time. Ever think about streaming and/or maybe reviewing the games you're working on?
I saw you had some prior content: newtmonkey.blogspot.com on gothic/horror movies.

Thanks! I thought about doing a blog, but figured I would come off as a CRPG Addict copycat (like a lot of the similar blogs that popped up after his got popular). I guess I'd rather just post my thoughts here on the Codex. The movie review blog was a lot of fun, but I just ran out of stuff to say about 70s/80s gore movies (though I still watch horror movies every week).

Gore! That's the word I was looking for!
    Well

for post up your experiences here in the Codex. Maybe you can start a gore movie thread; I'm sure there's a lot of other Dexers that have a lot to say about the topic. I mean this place has been great place to discover other good stuff you guys find out.

I just completed Dragon Slayer: TLoH. Horrible first impression; probably the worst console RPG I've ever played, for the first hour or two. The game requires the main character to be a certain level just to progress the plot early on; utter nonsense. It opens up a bit after that, and then is quite good during the last 75%. Great dungeons!

I finally completed the extremely tedious and boring Tengai Makyo ZIRIA. It's hard to believe this was sort of seen as the first "killer app" for the PC Engine CD-ROM hardware in Japan. It absolutely pales in comparison to contempory JRPGs like Phantasy Star II and Dragon Quest III. It feels good, though, to finally complete this one. The sequel is supposed to be excellent.

I finally completed Lands of Lore. I've tried playing through this many times over the years, but would get annoyed/bored at either the White Tower or the Urbish Mines each time, and give up. It looks and sound fantastic, but it's just an okay game. The high point is definitely the Urbish Mines.

Thanks, I know you liked DQII for the same various reasons I did so I know I'm going enjoy the third entry now.

Geneforge 1 and 2 are both masterpieces, it all goes downhill from there.

I think you'll love it! DQII was a top 10, maybe top 5 game for me, and DQIII has exceeded it. It does everything DQII does, but better imo.

I'm still only a few hours into Geneforge 2, but it's great so far. Geneforge 1 is indeed a masterpiece imo.

I completed Shining and the Darkness (aka Shining in the Darkness) just now. A decent light blobber that gets a bit tedious and very easy toward the end, but has a cool dungeon to explore.

Just completed FFIV: Easy Type. I completed FF2US and FF4J years ago, so it was interesting to compare. It's basically FF2US, but the last boss is MUCH easier.

Just completed Lennus, released as Paladin's Quest outside Japan. I was pleasantly suprised with this! Cool magic and combat system, and although there are a lot of random encounters, there's actually very little trash; even regular enemies can take you out quickly if you don't pay attention. No grinding required, and ended up finishing it at level 52.

I completed Diablo II (w/o expansion) for the first time earlier today, as a Paladin. It was alright, but there were too many boring field areas. Still a great looking and sounding game!

personally I find it quickly losing its appeal in Kurast, though the expansion set really is worth a try

    newtmonkey
I did install Lord of Destruction after beating the game, but will take a break and play something else first. I felt the same about the game losing appeal in Kurast... really tedious area imo.

Finally completed Planescape: Torment for the first time. The last few areas felt rushed, but overall a great game!

Agreed I noticed the end was like a mad dash.

Finished Skyrim for the first time... underwhelming. I only did the main quest, as I didn't find it interesting enough to do the DLCs, etc. Maybe some other time.

Just completed Star Ocean for the Super Famicom. A mess of a game, but a good foundation for the excellent sequel.

Finally completed Torchlight II (Outlander). I really liked this! A much greater focus on moving around and avoiding attacks than other games I've played of this style.

Have you already played Avernum or just playing Vogel's games chronologically?

I haven't completed Avernum, but played it a bit. I try to play through originals before remakes whenever I can. I did complete Avadon, Queen's Wish (lol), and Geneforge earlier this year.

Just completed Diablo for the first time. I played as a Rogue, and it was pretty fun. I didn't do the Hellfire expansion.
[Playing] Exile: Escape from the Pit (PC), Diablo (PC), Ys IV (PCE), Tengai Makyo ZIRIA (PCE) | [Finished] Grim Dawn (PC)

    newtmonkey
Just finished Grim Dawn. Lots of fun! I will definitely play it again someday with a different class, and will probably skip the DLCs next time. I regretted not playing on "Veteran" as the game is way too easy on "Normal."
[Playing] Grim Dawn (PC), Frayed Knights (PC), Ys IV (PCE), Tengai Makyo ZIRIA (PCE) | [Finished] Shadowrun Returns (PC)
    newtmonkey
    newtmonkey
Just finished Shadowrun Returns (it turns out I was only a couple missions from the end). Not bad! I thought I wouldn't like the cyberpunk/fantasy mix, but it was alright.
    Derringer
I doubt the tengai makyo games will ever get patches unless someone put the effort into doing it, I still haven't played them fully yet, but from what I played Ziria is an alright Dragon Quest clone, it's just really linear. The voice acting helps to carry it.
[Playing] Shadowrun Returns (PC), Ys IV (PCE), Tengai Makyo ZIRIA (PCE) | [Finished] Eschalon: Book I (PC)

    newtmonkey
Just completed Eschalon: Book I (pure mage). I liked it more than I thought I would, but there's only so much you do with a turn-based single-character RPG (that's not a roguelike). Good exploration.
[Playing] Eschalon Book I (PC), Ys IV (PCE), Tengai Makyo ZIRIA (PCE) | [Finished] Icewind Dale (PC)

Just completed Icewind Dale (original version, with both expansions). Great game! I think I liked it even more than Baldur's Gate.

Just finished Geneforge as a power-hungry Shaper not allied with anyone. The combat isn't great, but the exploration, concept/story, and writing are all top-tier. A masterpiece.
[Playing] Geneforge (PC) Phantasy Star II (MD) | [Finished] Mother 2 (SFC)
    newtmonkey
    newtmonkey
I completed Mother 2 just now. It was good, but I didn't like it as much as Mother (Famicom). A bit too goofy, and way too easy.
